The Hunt for Roman Barkov is the last major event of the Urzikstan Conflict featured in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare timeline. It is a covert unsanctioned operation led by commander Farah Karim of the Urzikstan Liberation Force, CIA supervisor Kate Laswell and Chimera operator "Nikolai" to destroy Roman Barkov's gas factory located in Georgia and assassinate the rogue Russian general.
Background[]
Western ties with the ULF[]
After the revelation that Hadir, not Al-Qatala, had stolen the the Russian gas, the United States cut ties with the Urzikstan Liberation Force, designating them as a foreign terror organization. Disgusted by his government's actions, CIA operative "Alex" deserted and joined the ULF to continue assisting them in ending Barkov's brutal regime.
Hadir's plans[]
After using some of the stolen gas against Barkov's forces in Urzikstan (as retaliation for their consistent use of gas against his own people), Hadir escapes and is picked up by Al-Qatala. Al-Qatala's former second in command-turned-leader Jamal "The Butcher" Rahar decides to assist Hadir after he unveils his plans to use the gas in a terror attack on Russian soil. Knowing Hadir's plan will bring Russia and the Western powers to war, since Hadir was known to be a Western asset, Captain John Price and CIA Officer Kate Laswell devise a plan to halt the terror attack. Laswell greenlights their unsanctioned operation and provides them transport to St. Petersburg, the target of Hadir's terror attack.
Course of the Invasion[]
Barkov's Residence[]
After interrogating The Butcher, Price and Garrick proceed to Roman Barkov's residence where they successfully capture Hadir.
The Gas Factory[]
With information from Hadir, Price visits Farah and suggests an operation to finally end Barkov's gas production. Farah initially refused, citing the factory's location in foreign soil (Georgia), but was eventually persuaded to participate.
The operation includes Price, Garrick, Farah, Alex, and Nikolai, with covert support from American Forces. Price and Garrick plan to set charges on the exterior of the facility while Farah and Alex plant explosives within the factory. Nikolai provides the group with explosive charges. After making it to the heart of the facility, Alex reveals that their detonator had been damaged in a recent fight; as a result, he offers to stay behind and manually trigger the charges. Farah reluctantly agrees and thanks him.
With all explosives in place, Farah surreptitiously makes her way onto Barkov's helicopter. As the general is distracted, she attacks and kills him. The explosives are triggered shortly afterward and Barkov's facility is demolished.
Aftermath[]
Russia disavowed Barkov's following his death, ending the Russian occupation of Urzikstan. However, Kate Laswell explained to Price that Victor Zakhaev, son of the late Imran Zakhaev is interested in taking Barkov's throne, leading Price to discuss organizing Task Force 141.
