The (Kyûzitai: 大日本帝國海軍, Sinzitai: 大日本帝国海軍) or Imperial Japanese Navy IJN, officially the Navy of the Greater Japanese Empire, was the naval force of Japan from 1869 to 1947. In the , it is an enemy faction, fought in Call of Duty series and Call of Duty: World at War in the Pacific War. Though is is much less frequent than its counterpart, the Call of Duty: Vanguard Imperial Japanese Army in World at War. It is not a playable multiplayer faction.
The most prominent level in
, where the IJN appear is " World at War Black Cats", where the player (as Petty Officer Locke) must destroy three merchant vessels bearing the flag of the Imperial Navy and fight A6M Zero of the fleet air arm.
Vanguard they appear in the levels, " The Battle of Midway" and " Numa Numa Trail."
Officers and soldiers of the IJN can be encountered in certain levels. Officers can be easily identified by the white tropical uniform they wear.
The Imperial Japanese Navy also makes an appearance in the intro cutscene for the
zombies map Call of Duty: Black Ops III Zetsubou No Shima.
