Call of Duty: World at War[]

Taking place during World War II, World at War includes content based on the Pacific Theater of the war, where the Allied United States Marine Corps fought against the Axis Imperial Japanese Army

Most engagements involved territories and occupied locations by the Empire of Japan. The campaign missions: Blowtorch & Corkscrew and Breaking Point, as well as the multiplayer maps: Cliffside, Courtyard, and Castle are set in the Japanese prefecture of Okinawa.

Locations based in Peleliu could also technically be considered part of Japan as it was considered a territory prior to the war, though they lost ownership of the area during the course of the war. These include the campaign missions: Little Resistance, Hard Landing, Burn 'em Out and Relentless, as well as the multiplayer maps: Airfield, Knee Deep, presumably Banzai, and Hangar

The Zombies map: Shi No Numa is vaguely described as taking place somewhere in the Empire of Japan, though it shares elements from Knee Deep and the Japanese occupied Makin Atoll based mission Semper Fi.  The famous Japanese Zombies character Takeo Masaki also debuted in World at War Zombies.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II[]

Japan serves as the location for the multiplayer map Magma. Set in the city of Kitakyushu during a volcanic eruption, the city is left in ruins by lava and volcanic rocks that now permeate the environment. SEAL Team Six fights the SDC on this map.

The zombies map Zetsubou No Shima takes place in Japanese occupied Micronesia. A remake of Shi no Numa is featured in the zombies mode as part of the Zombies Chronicles pack.

The nation's capital Tokyo is the backdrop for the multiplayer map Precinct, specifically set in the ward of Shibuya. The map takes place subsequently after an SDF invasion of the city.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4[]
