Kastovia (Cyrillic: Кастовия) is a fictional country featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Formerly part of the Soviet Union[1], Kastovia is a country located in the Caucasus Region, bordered by the Russian Federation to the north and Georgia to the west. The capital city is Verdansk. The country main language is Russian.

During World War II, Kastovia was occupied by German forces which built a system of underground bunkers to stockpile ammunitions and weapons beneath its capital, Verdansk. As the Wehrmacht retreated, the bunkers were sealed and forgotten.

In 1984, Verdansk served as a hub of operations for the Soviet-based spy ring known as Perseus led by Vikhor "Stitch" Kuzmin. The city was almost completely destroyed when CIA operative, Russell Adler triggered the explosives planted in the abandoned German underground bunker system in order to thwart Stitch's operations. The republic declared independence after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and Verdansk was then rebuilt by the West and Russia.

On October 24th, 2019, CIA Officer "Alex" and several US Marines were deployed in Verdansk to confirm the presence of chlorine gas inside a depot and prevent the forces of Russian general Roman Barkov from sending the gas to Urzikstan. The gas, however, was stolen during the mission by a group of insurgents led by Hadir Karim.

On March 3rd, 2020, the terrorist organization Al-Qatala, under the leadership of Khaled Al-Asad, and heavily supplied by Victor Zakhaev, invaded Kastovia and launched a full-scale assault against Verdansk, occupying the city and its surroundings. A new alliance, Armistice, was formed to stop Al-Qatala.

Sometime after Armistice was formed, a massive cloud of toxic gas was released within Verdansk. In the chaos that ensued, members of Armistice began fighting amongst themselves. Lt. Simon Riley of the SAS was stationed in Verdansk, and began an investigation of the situation, requesting fellow Task Force 141 member John Price to send fighters that he could trust to assist him.

From February to April of 2021, Verdansk saw the arrival of the Vodianoy and an infestation of Zombies, leading to an attempt at evacuation and eventual nuking on April 21st, 2021.[Canonical?]
