Las Almas is a fictional region and city in Mexico featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III

Geography[]

Las Almas is a mountainous region in the north of Mexico, bordering the United States with Texas. The region consists mostly of forest with at least one river.

Two cities are known to belong in the region: Las Almas and Olmeda.

History[]

Raid on the son of La AraƱa[]

At some point prior to 2022, the Mexican Fuerzas Especiales conducted a raid on the La AraƱa cartel by targeting the son of La AraƱa. Alejandro Vargas and his unit Los Vaqueros took part of the raid alongside the RED team which included Valeria Garza and Jesus "Chuy" Ordaz. However, several members of the RED team, including Valeria, were secretly enforcers of La AraƱa. Turning against their own, they escorted their target to the mountains and executed him.

Filling the new power vacuum she created, Valeria established the Las Almas Cartel under the alias of El Sin Nombre.

Manhunt for Hassan Zyani[]

On October 30th, 2022, elements of the Mexican Special Forces and Task Force 141, led by Ghost, Soap, Rodolfo and Alejandro, ambushed a compound in the mountains that was occupied by the Las Almas Cartel, in order to custody Iranian Quds Force Major Hassan Zyani. Following a brief firefight through the abandoned civilian settlement, Los Vaqueros found out that Hassan had been escorted away by the cartel and then saw themselves under assault of Mexican Army personnel, bought by the cartel.

After a firefight that led the team into a nearby river, deep in the mountains, Shadow Company would arrive, providing close air support with an AC-130 gunship. With said air support, the team then proceeded to assault a secondary hideout and capture Hassan Zyani. Shortly after, the combined team was ambushed at the city of Olmeda but would successfully repel it with the assistance of their air support.

Following the capture, the team would take Hassan Zyani to the desert and proceeded to interrogate him, with little success. Looking to avoid an escalation with Iran, the team would see themselves forced to release Hassan from custody, although not without first intercepting crucial information from his cellphone.

Capture of El Sin Nombre[]

On November 1st, 2022, Ghost, Soap and Alejandro would infiltrate the mansion in which they would find several HVIs associated with the Las Almas cartel, Valeria Garza amongst them. Once Soap and Alejandro cornered Valeria on the mansion's penthouse, she would be revealed to be the person behind the alias of El Sin Nombre. They would then capture her with the help of Phillip Graves and a Shadow Company helicopter. Following the revelation of Alejandro's connection with Valeria, they would interrogate her and obtain the location of one of the missiles, which was an abandoned oil rig on the Gulf of Mexico.

Massacre by Shadow Company[]

On the midnight of November 3rd, 2022, elements of Shadow Company, personally led by Phillip Graves, would begin to illegally search throughout the city of Las Almas for Ghost and Soap, with Hassan Zyani as their secondary objective. They would enter and occupy major sections of the city, such as the city church and the north plaza, among others. Mercenaries would illegally start entering people's houses and executing any opposing civilians, cartel sicarios and corrupt policemen they would find in their way, going as far as to burn people's houses and separating children from their families. Shadow Company would be ultimately unsuccessful in finding any of their objectives, as Ghost and Soap would escape to a safehouse in an unknown location, owned by Alejandro, who was now imprisoned by Shadow Company.

Shortly after, Ghost, Soap and Rodolfo Parra would infiltrate into the abandoned maximum-security prison, now turned a detainment facility for Shadow Company, and would set Alejandro and Los Vaqueros free, sparking a battle with Shadow Company that would come to an end when Captain John Price and Sergeant Kyle Garrick showed up, following Kate Laswell's warning after General Shepherd cut his communications.

Retaking of the Los Vaqueros' base[]

On the afternoon of November 5th, 2022, JTF - Ghost Team, a combined force of Task Force 141 and Los Vaqueros, would assault Alejandro's Base of Operations, which had been taken by Phillip Graves after the capture of Valeria. Following the initial assault, Kyle Garrick and Alejandro Vargas would rescue Valeria, while Soap and Rodolfo would fight an armored tank seemingly driven by Graves in the training range, while Ghost rescued John Price from his helicopter crash. The tank is destroyed by several C4 charges placed by Soap, and Graves, who was later revealed to actually have not been in the tank, escapes the base.

In the aftermath of the assault, Valeria would give Task Force 141 the location of the third missile and, by the terms of her deal with them, would be released from custody to the dismay of Alejandro.
