"A small town in West Virginia is caught up in the grip of a mysterious outbreak. Assess the situation, contain the threat, and find the lost scientist who may hold the key to salvation."
— Mission Briefing

Liberty Falls is a Zombies map featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

Overview[]

The map takes place in the city of Liberty Falls, West Virginia after a dimensional breach has started. The introduction of Liberty Falls brings the return of the Thrustodyne Aeronautics Model 23, the Abomination from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and a new trap utility called Aetherella. It serves as the only playable map for the Training Course in Zombies mode.

Main Quest[]

Main article: Bye-Bye, Dark Aether

The Main Quest for Liberty Falls tasks Team Alpha of the Project Janus security to potentially rescue any surviving researchers related to Project Janus and if possible, find out if Project Janus was responsible for the outbreak in Liberty Falls and to hopefully end it.

Weaponry Easter Egg[]

  • The Thrustodyne M23 can be crafted within the map for free and is required for Bye-Bye, Dark Aether.
    • The crafting bench containing the incomplete Thrustodyne can be found within Room 202 of the Motor Lodge, approaching near the room will have the door burst open and zombies swarm out of it. The weapon itself is missing three components.
    • Water Pressure Gauge
      • A Pressure Gauge can be found in use behind some paneling within the Fuller's Liberty Lanes, on the Lanes itself. However to increase the pressure to remove the gauge itself, a water valve is required.
      • A spare water valve can be found on a tap in front of the Lily's Flowerpot Florist store on Washington Ave.
      • Placing the water valve on the pipes will start a defence section. During this the water pressure will need to be manually increased by interacting with it. Doing so will spawn various zombies to interrupt the process. These zombies offer only 10% of the points gained upon killing them. After enough pressure has been built up, the gauge will shoot off the pipe and land in front of the system and any zombies that were spawned by the defence wave will spontaneously combust.
    • Handbrake
      • Upon arriving in the Graveyard during a standard wave, a uniquely named zombie called the "Groundskeeper" will spawn. Upon killing him, he'll drop the Toolshed Key. This spawn can happen during Vermin waves.
      • The Toolshed in question is in the Groundskeeper's Yard at the back corner of the property. Interacting with the door with the key will open it and within is a Handbrake.
    • Electrical Wires
      • Spare electrical wiring for the Thrustodyne can be found within the Radio House store in Riverside, however the door is chained up.
      • Opening this door requires a blast from a Mangler's cannon to impact the door. Either from kiting a Mangler shot to hit door, the use of a Mutant Injection to temporarily become a Mangler or by the use of a Mangler Cannon shot.
      • Upon opening the door, there are bundles of disused electronics on the ground. Interacting with these piles will spawn either a Salvage pile, a Vermin which is able to uniquely jumpscare the player or the bundle of wiring.
    • With all the components, the Thrustodyne Aeronautics Model 23 can be crafted at the bench, which will spawn a free version for pick-up on the bench.

Musical Easter Eggs[]

  • The song Destroy Something Beautiful can be activated by interacting with three Mister Peeks-themed headphones scattered around the map.
    • Between Fuller’s Liberty Lanes and the Motor Lodge Motel on the ground beside the fence and platform railing.
    • Inside the Dark Aether church, on the end of a wooden bench.
    • On Washington Avenue, beneath a wooden bench seat along the wrought iron fence.
  • The song Echo is activated after doing the bowling alley easter egg 3 times.

Miscellaneous Easter Eggs[]

  • Hidden around the map are five bowling shoes that the player can shoot. Upon shooting all of them, the player will be transported to Fuller's Liberty Lanes, where several zombies are having a party. Mister Peeks will then spawn in a bowling ball for the player to take, which the player can use to throw at zombies walking across the lanes. The player can also charge the bowling ball by holding the fire button, allowing it to move faster when thrown. The player will have two minutes to bowl, and afterward, Mister Peeks will spawn in a trophy for the player to open, rewarding them various items depending on their overall bowling score. The player can repeat this easter egg a total of two times by shooting the bowling shoes that appear in the exposed toilet in the bowling alley next to the billiards table five rounds after the round the bowling easter egg was started on. The location for the initial five bowling shoes are:
    • On the checkout counter at Pump & Pay.
    • On a shelf in Frank's Hardware directly across the street from Olly's Comics.
    • Under a chair in the open window left of the AK-74 wallbuy on Hill Street.
    • Hanging from a tree branch to the right of the Armor Upgrade wallbuy in the Cemetary.
    • On top of a casket in the Benson Funeral Services building found on West Main Street across the street from Fuller's Liberty Lanes.
  • There are a total of 8 figures of the villain Aetherella scattered around the map, with the primary fire of the Thrustodyne they can be picked up and with all 8 picked up, the player who does so can temporarily turn into the Aetherlla statue. In this state, they will become totally invulnerable to attacks from enemies and will continuously fire a laser beam that auto-focuses on the heads on zombies.
    • A total of four figures can be found within Olly's Comics
    • A figure can be found perched on the neon Motel sign, behind the Office signage on East Main Street.
    • Another figure can be found placed on an air conditioning unit opposite of the Dark Aether Field Generator unit on Hill Street.
    • From the "The Alamo", dropping onto the Yummy Freeze rooftop, there is a set of a air conditioning vents on the opposite building, the figure is hidden behind the right one.
    • On the opposite side of the Melee Macchiato, on the ledge of the windows of the Church sits another figure.
    • A figure lays flat under the "L" on the Lanes section of the Liberty Lanes sign on the West Main Street, closest to where the decommissioned bus is.
  • The Vault of the Liberty Falls Savings & Loans bank can be opened and Loot Keys can be utilized within it. The Vault Codes can be found on post-it notes scattered around the map.
    • The first post-it note can be found on the counter of the bank, nearest to the Vault itself.
    • The second can be found under the counter of Olly's Comic shop, pointing near the Aetherella statue and utility.
    • The third can be found within the Fuller's Liberty Lanes bowling alley, at the snacks counter and hidden under a bucket filled with ice and bottles of champagne.
  • Outside of the map at the north end of the Cemetary is a walking trail with a fence in the distance, where five soda cans are lined on top of it. Shooting all five cans with five consecutive shots with reward the player Deadshot Daiquiri for free. Shooting a can after missing a shot will despawn the cans, which will reappear after a couple rounds.
  • On the tip of one of the church steeples directly above Melee Macchiato is a zombie head. Destroying it with an explosive or a Molotov will cause zombies to rain down from the sky, killing them on impact with the ground and dropping Essence, Salvage and Scorestreaks. After the phenomena ends, an Aether Tool will appear, with its rarity depending on the current round.
    • Uncommon Aether Tool: Round 1-9
    • Rare Aether Tool: Round 10-29
    • Epic Aether Tool: Round 30-49
    • Legendary Aether Tool: 50+
  • Hitting the billiard balls on the billiards table in Fuller's Liberty Lanes will cause them to scatter into the pockets with it ejecting a 100 Essence canister upon them all entering.
  • Punching the vending machine in the Motor Lodge next to the energy barrier leading into the Motor Lodge Alley while crouched each round will dispense a random reward, ranging from unusable snacks to Essence, a free Perk, and even a Ray Gun. Using Melee Macchiato on the vending machine will destroy it, causing Essence and Salvage to spew out from it for a short moment before being rendered unusable for the remainder of the match.
  • One of three vehicles on the map will contain Mister Peeks in the backseat. Destroying the vehicle with Mister Peeks in it using a Mangler Cannon will cause an item to eject from the trunk. After five rounds, Mister Peeks will appear in one of the other remaining vehicles, allowing the player to repeat this easter egg a total of two extra times. The locations of the three cars are:
    • In front of the Crafting Table at the Groundkeeper's Yard.
    • To the right of the GobbleGum machine on Hill Street.
    • In a parking spot at Backstreet Parking next to Olly's Comics.
  • Two telescopes at the Riverside can be used for 50 Essence each. If the player uses a telescope to look out in the distance, they can find a lone zombie dancing on a cliff. Aligning both telescopes on the dancing zombie will trigger a dance party on the nearby bus, causing all nearby zombies in the area to dance and ignore the player for a full minute.
  • On the inaccessible ledge west of the Washington Ave. Rooftops is a barrel that can only be destroyed using Scorestreaks. Once the player destroys it, a shovel will drop from the ledge into the playable area, allowing the player to pick it up. Using the shovel, the player can dig up the various graves at the Cemetary to obtain rewards. Digging up all of the graves will reward the player Essence.
  • Left of the GobbleGum machine on West Main Street is a swimming pool full of blood. The player can throw three Semtex grenades into the pool, which will cause a red orb to fly out of the pool and land in front of the player, rewarding the player Salvage and equipment. This can be repeated every five rounds up to two times, with the third instance rewarding a Fire Sale power-up.
  • Shooting the two stands filled with numerous candles found on either side of the Pack-a-Punch Machine using a weapon equipped with Napalm Burst will cause several pools of purple fire to appear on the floor around the Dark Aether, damaging both zombies and players alike.

Free Power-Up Easter Eggs[]

Hidden around the map are various miniature renditions of each power-up that the player can collect.

  • Bonus Points: On top of the air conditioner found outside of Olly's Comics in the alley left of the Ammo Cache and Arsenal machine.

Cutscenes[]

Opening Cutscene Transcript

We'll Meet Again by Vera Lynn plays, as the scene opens to an aerial view of a forest area during fall season. The view changes several times before changing to a falling leaf, which lands on a radio. The music continues to be played from said radio. The view shifts to Edward "Eddie" Richtofen sitting with his back against a tree, as he picks a cherry from a picnic basket to eat. Next to him, his wife Mary is laying her head on his chest, reading a book, while their son Samuel is playing with a toy gun in the background. A sharp wind blows, causing Mary to feel chilly. Richtofen chuckles.

Richtofen: I'll get your sweater from the car.

Richtofen kisses Mary on the forehead, then gets up. As he moves toward his unseen car, he begins to feel pain in his chest. He grunts several times as he grips his chest, while the view around him darkens. The music begins to distort, and noise of a fire begins to drown out the music. Richtofen turns around and notices fire surrounding Mary and Samuel, who continue to play together, oblivious to what's going on.

Richtofen: Fire! Run!

Mary and Samuel look at each other, then turn to Richtofen and wave at him, their faces grinning devilishly.

Richtofen: For God's sake! RUN!

A jumpscare of Mary and Samuel, burnt to a crisp, appears quickly. Richtofen wakes up from his nightmare. He catches his breath for a moment, then gets up and turns to the side. He looks at his bedside, where a photo of his family can be seen. A chyron on the bottom right corner reads:

LIBERTY FALLS, WEST VIRGINIA

2/18/1991

1500 Hours

Richtofen breathes in relief for a moment. Suddenly, an alarm blares.

Alarm: Warning. Dimensional breach in progress.

Richtofen gets up, moves to his desk and looks at his monitoring equipment, then presses on the microphone to talk to the scientist on the screen.

Richtofen: Sublevel Ten, report!

Scientist: Something's wrong with S.A.M.. Dimensional breaches are occurring across the facility.

Richtofen looks to his right, then moves to another desk where the Wunderwaffe DG-2 is placed. He grabs the Wonder Weapon and its bulb cartridge. He then looks at the monitor again.

Richtofen: Secure your staff. I'll handle S.A.M. myself.

A portal appears behind the scientist and grabs him, seemingly phasing him out of existence. Richtofen readies the Wunderwaffe. He moves out of his room to find Project Janus Security Chief John Blanchard bursting through a door, as zombies attack the latter. A blast from the Wunderwaffe vaporizes the zombies. Richtofen moves in and helps Blanchard up.

Richtofen: Blanchard, secure the command post. Call in response teams. Get Liberty Falls locked down. Copy?

Blanchard: Copy.

Blanchard moves to carry out Richtofen's order. Richtofen continues moving downstairs, taking out various zombified staff members with the Wunderwaffe. He reaches the elevator door and uses the scanner.

Richtofen: Richtofen. Edward.

More zombies move in and attack Richtofen. He uses the gun to knock one back, then fires at another, but the zombie pushes him, causing the shot to misfire. Richtofen pushes back using the Wunderwaffe. A zombie pins him to the elevator door. He ejects the empty bulbs from the Wunderwaffe, then locks the zombie's head in and pulls a reload motion, killing the zombie at the same time.

Richtofen: Director, Project Janus! Emergency override!

A zombie tries to attack Richtofen from the right, but he uses the Wunderwaffe's stock to hit it back, causing its head to make contact with the scanner, which turns green. The elevator door opens, and Richtofen falls backward into it. As a zombie tries to jump into the elevator, Richtofen fires a Wunderwaffe shot, vaporizing it and other zombies. The zombie falls and disintegrates as the elevator door closes. Richtofen stands up and presses an elevator button to go down. As he recomposes himself, a purple mist seeps through the elevator from behind and grabs him, rocking him up and down.

Richtofen: I swear to you S.A.M.... you'll never be free!

The mist then phases Richtofen away, leaving the Wunderwaffe behind. As the elevator stops, the mist begins to move, passing through and breaking each bulb on the Wunderwaffe. The elevator door opens, revealing a large spherical containment chamber with numerous cables attached to it. The chamber begins to float, causing the cables to detach. A robotic voice comes from the chamber.

S.A.M.: But Edward... I already am.

The purple mist begins to move around the containment chamber.

Trivia[]

  • The song played in the beginning of the intro cinematic is We'll Meet Again by Vera Lynn, the same song played in the final cutscene of Forsaken.
  • The church featured on the map is based on the St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry, also located in West Virginia.
  • The intro cinematic is stated to take place at the same time as the events of Terminus. However, the actual events of Liberty Falls take place a day after, as indicated by Blanchard's dialogue stating that he has been holed up in the mansion for a day.
  • Near the Freedom Fried Chicken restaurant area, weeping sounds can often be heard from inside the building. This may be a nod to the Operation Deadbolt audio logs, where Krystal Miller mentioned that she hid out in a Freedom Fried Chicken restaurant for three days during the outbreak before being rescued by the Steel Mountain Riders.
    • The audio log "Steel Mountain Rescue", however, indicates that the Riders had already rescued Miller, which contradicts Miller's audio logs in Operation Deadbolt.
  • The cover date found on the first issue of the Aetherella comics found in Olly's Comics is erroneously listed with the date November 1st, 1992.
  • Originally, it was possible for Parasites to spawn in Liberty Falls. A fix was released in the Season One Reloaded update to prevent this.
  • Inside Savings & Loan, zombies will only mantle over the teller counter from the front and never on the teller's side.
  • The door inside Savings & Loan leading into Yummy Freeze can be opened from the Yummy Freeze Rooftop without having to directly open it from inside the bank.
  • In the intro cinematic, when subtitles are enabled, dialogues mentioning S.A.M. refer to her as "Sam". Her final line also has no speaker name indicated.
  • The Dome at the top of Sam Colton Hall can be seen through the woods from the churches Graveyard. It is the only part of Shattered Veil that is visible from Liberty Falls.
