Opening Cutscene[]

An image and flashes of a tree with lightning is seen as it slowly gets closer.

Deimos: Humanity has outstayed its welcome. The Dead shall inherit the Earth. I shall have my army to defeat Dolos. Malum shall be mine. And all that remains is your sacrifice. An offering of blood. Follow your path, relive your final moments and change your fate to a far greater one. Your resistance was strong, but it was a matter of time before you obediently bowed before me as the rest of your species did. Let us return to Zürich and finish this. I will have my war. And you will bear witness to the end of mankind.

Gameplay #1[]

The screen shows static before it shows Kane regrouping with an ZSF Sergeant behind a wreck in downtown Zürich.

Deimos: With Hendricks as my vehicle, I stampeded towards Coalescence, leaving pandemonium in my wake.

While Deimos speaks, a few civilians run away in panic before the three move up to more cover.

Deimos: Zürich was one of the few remaining standing cities. With control over my undead army and the city's Robotic security force, I decimated it in hours. I needed to separate you from your "Guardian Angel", Kane. I didn't have control over her... and she was pulling my power from you - that would come later.

The Sergeant nods before moving up.

Deimos: I'd taken Coalescence Headquarters, surrounding it with an impenetrable armada.

Kane then takes cover where the Sergeant was and looks over at the Player.

Deimos: But I waited for you. I was still curious, I was in your head, but I couldn't take control. I wanted, no, I needed to know how before I opened the Gateway.

The two break from cover before moving up as the Player equips her MR6.

Deimos: But before that, you had to get through my undead army.

The team then begin to engage the Undead Army under Deimos' control. The squad moves up and reaches a checkpoint under siege by Deimos' Zombies and Talons. A bus wreck then explodes up the street, killing a few ZSF soldiers. As they're fighting, a hole in a parking garage bursts open and several Zombies emerge.

F. Player: The city systems had gone haywire. Vehicles, trains, power, anything connected to the grid was now a weapon at your disposal.

Upon entering, a car crashes and kills several ZSF soldiers under attack by the Undead Army. After killing them, the squad moves up to the next floor, where yet more Zombies await. After reaching the other side of the parking garage, a car smashes through a wall, allowing the Player and Kane to continue forward.

F. Player: You used Hendricks' DNI to plug into the system, we could see that from the carnage you unleashed, but we didn't know how bad it was yet. WA Command came over comms, they were experiencing robotic system malfunctions all across Switzerland.

The two then heads from the parking garage into a small plaza.

F. Player: And you built yourself a wall of robotics blocking us from Coalescence.

The Player begins to see things in black and white as several crows fly around them before color returns. The two then reach the end of the wreck which reveals the Coalescence Corporation HQ under siege. Jumping down, they regroup with ZSF Soldiers who are under fire from an ASP-C. The Player then grabs either an XM-53, a Micro-Missile Launcher, or any other explosive weapon and begins to attack the A.S.P.

Upon destroying it, the A.S.P. explodes as a giant crow flies away from it and explodes into several smaller crows. The squad moves up, engaging more Undead and Robotic Forces, as well as several P.A.W.W.S.. An enemy Wraith appears, but is dealt with. After reaching the center of the plaza, an ASP-ML begins to target the squad from the entrance of the building. Upon being defeated, it too takes the shape of a giant bird before exploding into multiple smaller ones. Interfacing with a panel opens a metal door into the interior of the building. The two then enters the building, with the door closing behind them. The screen once again goes black and white with the image of the crow appearing again before returning to color.

F. Player: By the time we made it inside, you'd extended beyond Switzerland's grid - you'd seized control of WA Command. All remaining robotics protecting the world from the undead were now only loyal to you. You'd done it, it was the beginning of the end of mankind. All that stood between you and domination were the two women in that lobby.

Deimos: And soon, that too would be dealt with - accordingly...

The two pass through a security checkpoint, passing by slaughtered personnel. More Zombies attack the two in the next room. The two jump down into a hole in the side of a wall before engaging more Zombies and several P.A.W.W.S. After clearing the room, they proceed through the doorway and down a hole in the floor. The two then enter a room with the SP/CORVUS logo on the wall. As they enter, the screen once again goes black and white with the image of the crow appearing again before returning to color. The two enter a decontamination chamber and are sprayed down. The screen once again goes black and white and an image of a crow flashes briefly; afterward, several crows appear inside the Zürich facility. The Color fades back in as the other door opens. The two passes a window where a battle between Robots is taking place on the other side. Upon entering the next room, they find a small room with several canisters in it. The two then holsters their weapons.

F. Player: You trapped us in a decontamination room, you released this chemical...

Deimos: 61-15. The Virus that caused the outbreak in Singapore. And I had enough to wipe out all of Zürich...

F. Player: You had triggered multiple breaches and containment failures. I interfaced with the system to see how bad the damage was.

The Player then interfaces with the destroyed terminal which brings up Nova 6 graphs and a timer.

Deimos: And Kane acted as I predicted.

While the Player speaks, she looks towards Kane before looking back at the terminal and interfacing with it.

F. Player: She sacrificed herself. The room was flooded with 61-15, and the system reset was in there.

Kane enters the room. The Player's vision flashes a crow in black and white.

F. Player: But wait - no, there was a problem. What had you done? You lied, you tricked her...

Kane enters the room filled with Virus 61-15 containers.

F. Player: ...there was no breach. She sacrificed herself for... for nothing!

The color comes back as Kane activates a control panel.

Deimos: I ripped her from you.

Virus 61-15 begins to flood Kane's room. Kane then realizes Deimos had tricked her and the Player.

Deimos: She could toy no more in my affairs. The dose I gave her wouldn't even turn her - it would simply kill her.

Kane begins to experience the effects of the now lethal Virus 61-15 as the two put their hands up on the glass from their rooms.

Deimos: I will never understand your species. You sacrifice yourselves for so little.

While Deimos speaks, Kane then vomits and eventually dies as the window's shutter locks down.

Deimos: Look at her, she gave her life for something that would amount to nothing.

The Player bashes the window in fury from witnessing Kane's death.

Deimos: You tie yourselves to emotions...

Turning round, another door open.

Deimos: ...forcing you to act impulsively... without considering what could happen. You give your lives because you believe there's something to gain. As if a heavenly body will fall to its knees and worship you for your good deeds. Keep moving - you're almost there.

The Player then goes down a ramp as her vision goes black and white as dozens of crows fly by before the color reappears. Interfacing with a panel opens a door into the testing lab, the Player readies her MR6 again as she enters the room slowly where Hendricks, aiming his own MR6, is holding someone hostage and interrogating him.

Deimos: Do you remember this place? What happened here?

F. Player: You found Krueger, the one who rebuilt Project Corvus.

Deimos: It was time to open the Gateway and Krueger was proving difficult, unwilling to fulfill his task.

The Player aims her MR6 at Hendricks as he then grabs Krueger at gun point and pulls him up.

Deimos: But he was equipped with DNI like yours. There were easier ways I could persuade him. I could become him.

F. Player: I couldn't let you. I told Hendricks to stand down or I'd take him down myself. You were desperate to convince him to open the Gateway. You were relying on me being unable to shoot my friend, but I eventually did. We shot each other. I bled out on the floor and died. With Hendricks. Stopping YOU.

Deimos: But now you will shoot first. Change the memory. Don't wait for him to turn on you. Kill him. Change your fate.

While Dolos speaks, Hendricks raises his left hand to Krueger's head and forces a DNI interface. As Krueger stiffens before crumpling to the floor, a small popping sound is heard as an electrical pulse plays along Hendricks's limbs. Seeing that Krueger is dead, the Player shoots Hendricks in the head, killing him.

Dolos: Let... him... win... everything will be alright.

The Player then collapses to the ground on her knees.

Deimos: [laughs] Good. Now sacrifice yourself. Open the Gateway.

The Player looks at her MR6 before turning it at herself.

Dolos: Do as he asks. Let him think he's won.

The Player pulls the trigger and the screen goes white.

Dolos: Offer yourself to him...

The Player then awakens, lying down in Malum as she looks up and sees Hendricks walking towards her. She begins to get up.

F. Player: Wait... what? Where am I? What is this place? Hendricks? What are you doing here? Where are we?

Hendricks shakes his head.

F. Player: What the hell's going on?

Hendricks speaks to the Player, but she can't hear him.

F. Player: I can't... I-I can't hear you. What are you saying? Why... why can't I hear you?

Dolos: Humans have no voice in this place, and how could they?

The Player gets up completely.

Dolos: But as it happens, this is not Hendricks - merely, a reflection of your consciousness. It's how our realm manifests itself to mortals.

Deimos then physically appears behind Hendricks and approaches the Player.

Deimos: How is this possible? What did you do?

F. Player: Deimos?

Hendricks then looks around.

F. Player: What's happening?

Deimos: Why don't you ask your friend, maybe Hendricks can explain it.

F. Player: He-He won't speak. He can't speak.

Deimos: Of course not, of course the mortal cannot speak. Their voice is meaningless and insignificant, WHY would we cater to their wants and wills when they shouldn't be here?

Deimos and Hendricks then disappear in a flash of smoke as the Zombies appear and begin to attack the Player.

F. Player: Where is "here"?

Deimos: Like you don't know? Now you chose to play dumb with me? Do you even know what you've done? Where. Is. Krueger?

After the Player eliminates all the Zombies, she advances up a hill, where she encounters more Zombies. After eliminating them, the Player goes left, finding Deimos standing next to Krueger, who is on his knees. A giant tree is seen in the background. The Player walks up to the two.

Deimos: You. You did this. You made this happen. Answer me! What did you do?

Krueger speaks to Deimos, but the Demigod can't hear him. Deimos looks towards the Player, with Krueger doing so as well.

Deimos: And yet, we have another voiceless mortal. I can do little with you. I should not be here.

Krueger looks back towards Deimos and shakes his head before looking back towards the Player.

Deimos: This wasn't the plan. I was to open the Gateway, not pass through it.

Deimos: ...And STILL you can't speak. You move your mouth like a child, but you do not speak.

Krueger once again looks back towards Deimos and shakes his head before looking back towards the Player.

Deimos: I am Deimos - Demigod of Dread and Terror. And you will not SPEAK!?! Look at him - angry at his circumstances, in his attempts to be heard. But it's curious... how can you speak? You're a mortal... or at least, so you would have me believe.

F. Player: Deimos, I don't know what you think's happening...

Krueger then begins to shake his finger viciously.

Deimos: ENOUGH. In time, I'm sure it will become clear, but now... now I leave you to die.

Deimos levitates Krueger to a ritual-like place on the other side of a massive vine structure. The Player slides down the cliff into a pond made of blood, where she engages more Zombies.

F. Player: Hello? Who's there? Where am I?

Dolos: This is your new home, my child. This... is Malum.

F. Player: I... I-I recognize your voice. You've spoken to me before.

Dolos: I am the reason you're still alive. I've been with you from the start, traveling with you all this time. And now you're going to kill my brother for me. Oh yes, there's much work to be done, so much FUN to be had.

F. Player: Fun to be had? Who are you?

Dolos: I am Dolos - Demigoddess of Deception and Trickery. And you're going to kill Deimos for me.

After clearing the pond out, the Player burns a hole in the vine wall, where Hendricks is waiting for her.

Deimos: And still you live? You just won't die. How many times can I lead you to death, only for you to walk away unscathed? This poor, babbling, mute soul didn't do a damn thing...

Hendricks then disappears for the last time.

Deimos: ...but he knows when to give up and die. But how did you send me back? Why couldn't I control you as my puppet like the others? You're a mortal.

The Player walks up to Deimos, who has Krueger suspended and tied to two trees.

Dolos: She may be mortal, my dear brother, but she has a little help from her friend...

Krueger looks at Deimos.

Deimos: No... you? This cannot be. What have you done?!

Dolos: I've ended your little reign of terror over humanity. The Time of the Dead is over.

Deimos: No. No. No! NO!

Dolos: But, but Deimos... I thought you'd be happy. I've brought you back home where you belong. I must be confused, I thought that's what you wanted.

Deimos: Humanity was mine to rule. They were mine to destroy.

Dolos: Humanity will destroy itself in time, it doesn't need our help for that.

Deimos manipulates the tree limbs to rip Kreuger apart, brutally killing him.

Deimos: Sister...

While Deimos speaks, the Player falls to her knees as Deimos disappears in a puff of smoke.

Deimos: ...you've made a grave mistake.

The Player looks to her right and sees Taylor standing beside her.

F. Player: Taylor. What are you doing here? How are you here?

Dolos: It's an illusion I've created for you, a companion to help you. Follow him.

Taylor helps the Player up.

F. Player: Where is he taking me?

Dolos: To Deimos's hearts. To destroy him, you must first destroy his hearts.

The two walk over to three arches, each representing a location from the past. The Player approaches the arch on the right made up of tangled electronic hardware. She raises her hand and burn away the vines blocking the arch. The screen distorts and fades to black.

F. Player: Deimos? Dolos?

The screen eventually goes through a reverse of that distortion and the Player finds herself standing in front of a mirror.

F. Player: Taylor? Is anyone there? Dolos... I recognize these buildings. Why does this place look so strange... yet so familiar?

The Player's reflection in the mirror becomes distorted, eventually settling to show a reflection of Taylor. The Player waves her hand as the Taylor reflection does the same.

Dolos: Malum is a realm beyond conceptual space and time.

The Player walks closer to the mirror.

Dolos: It manifests as a reflection of the individual. This is your Malum. Follow Taylor.

While Dolos speaks, the two reach out to the mirror, as it begins to ripple like the surface of a pool.

Dolos: He'll take you to the heart.

Right as their fingers are about to touch the surface, the mirror cracks, then shatters, revealing a dark twisted vine-like city resembling Zürich as light posts begin to pop from the ground. The two reach an open area as they engage against the Undead and they eventually reach to a vine like maze which the Player has to navigate. After reaching the end, they engage more of the Undead.

The two eventually reach an overturned train car blocking their way, which is moved out of the way by some vines. The two then head to a building, which has a strange portal-like entrance. Upon entering they are teleported to a strange place where the walls are made up of what look like cables with blue electrical signals travelling along them.

Dolos: This cold world is damned and consumed by death.

As they press forward, the two are attacked by several Talons.

Dolos: It's outstayed its welcome in the known universe. Father won't be pleased... what better time than now, I suppose...

Deimos: You think I will let you do that?

Dolos: Of course! You were never particularly good at anything. You were built to kneel, not rule. What's the human expression? Always a bridesmaid, never a bride?

Deimos: I. Will. Destroy you!

The two eventually reach one of Deimos' hearts. The Player raises her hand and lights the heart on fire, which causes a hole in the ceiling to open through which they see a large part of the massive tree break off and tumble to the ground. The screen fades black.

Cutscene #1[]

Views of the Coalescence lab in Singapore can be seen.

Dolos: I arrived on Earth with my brother. I lay hidden in shadow. Deimos never knew, but he's a simple creature. He's concerned with revenge, power, violence. He wanted an undead army just so he could kill me. How boring...

The facility can be seeing going critical.

Dolos: And I was content to let him think he'd won. So I sat back while he consumed all of Earth.

The screen then goes black.

Gameplay #2[]

The Player and Taylor return back to where Krueger was killed by Deimos, where they take the next branching path. The Players lands into a recreation of Egypt, with her having some of the past experiences seen around the place.

Deimos: You realize the futility of your actions? A human cannot kill a god.

The two then begin to advance.

Dolos: But she's no ordinary human - wherever she goes, I follow. I'm in her head, a part of her.

Deimos: How could you have known my plan?

Dolos: Because it was MY plan. I watched her in Coalescence. Saved her in the Aquifers. Guided her through battle. This entire time, you've played into MY hand.

Deimos: It's a pity she won't live to see me kill you...

The two make it to a recreation of the Egyptian Army's Mobile Blockade as it is being setup while the Undead spawn in. They work their way through the city, and an explosion opens up a hole in a wall at the end, allowing them to proceed. The two eventually reach the portal and are transported to another part of the simulation.

F. Player: Dolos, you... you were Kane? You were with me the whole time.

As they press forward, the two encounter the Insanity Elementals.

Dolos: I am not my brother. I don't turn people into puppets. Not when they're so suggestible and malleable. Why control when they can formulate their own thoughts? Go... destroy the heart.

Deimos: I will break you, rip you from her grasp...

The Insanity Elementals are eventually destroyed and the Player then burns Deimos' second heart, causing another part of the massive tree to fall apart. The screen fades black once again.

Cutscene #2[]

Flashbacks of Taylor's Team investigating the server room of the old Coalescence facility in Singapore.

Dolos: Taylor found us easily. All it took was for the Doctor to create the disturbance.

More flashbacks such as the events of Vengeance are briefly seen as Taylor struggles when he interfaces with the main server.

Dolos: ...And Deimos thought he'd manipulated Salim.

The screen goes white as Hall re-calibrates Taylor before returning to Malum.

Dolos: I had my fun watching my brother play with his toys, but I was bored - it was time to go home.

The screen then goes black.

Gameplay #3[]

F. Player: You let him destroy humanity.

Dolos: Oh relax, humanity will be just fine.

Once again, the Player and Taylor are transported back to the intersection.

Dolos: Without Deimos, Bishops' Cure will work. Humanity will return to its boring, uninteresting self. Don't you worry your little head...

The Player then burns down the last set of vines and proceeds through the final simulation which represents Singapore. The Player spawns underwater, with vines blocking most of the surface.

Dolos: You know - even if you kill Deimos, you can't go home. The Gateway to Earth is sealed, you're trapped here. [laughs] I hope that's not... inconvenient.

Upon reaching the surface, the two emerge in front of the entrance to the abandoned Coalescence facility.

F. Player: If killing that fucker means damnation here, I'll take it.

Dolos: Oh... I think you and I are going to get along just fine...

Heading left leads into the streets of Singapore where the two battle more Zombies. The two reach an open body of water, where the giant Ferris wheel can be seen collapsing as they then swim underwater into a cave before surfacing in another part of Singapore, which is partly flooded. At the end of the street is a machine-like construct which pulls the Player into it. The Player appears in an underwater cave, with depth charges all around them.

Deimos: I wonder, sister - what's your plan? After you kill me, who's next? Our Father? The King on his Fiery Throne? Cronus, Proteus, and Hybris? Charon? The Four Brothers of the Great Sea? The Mirrors of Perseus? Where does it end? Will you kill all of Malum over that thing? That human?

Dolos: Oh my, now that you mentioned it, I hadn't thought of that. I guess I'll just have to kill ALL of them. [laughs] Run, run while you can, little brother.

Eventually, the Player manages to get topside and they burn Deimos' last heart, causing the massive tree to fall apart completely as the screen fades black.

Cutscene #3[]

Flashbacks of the moment Taylor, Maretti, and Hall were interrogating Salim can be seen.

Dolos: Deimos did exactly as I had hoped. I knew given the chance he'd turn all of humanity into his army, only then could I take him home. But to open the Gateway, he needed a human sacrifice - just as the test subjects were sacrificed to open the Gateway in Coalescence. A blood offering: You. You know he is not wrong. You are strong, stronger than any human I've seen.

The moment when Taylor executes Salim is seen and the screen goes black.

Dolos: You force yourself to carry the weight of the world. You use it, it motivates you.

A camera pan of Malum can be seen, as well as brief flashbacks of the previous missions.

Dolos: You're driven by the need to do better. To improve on what you once were. What's more human than that? The drive to do better? To BE better?

Deimos: I won't let you do this!

The moment Taylor rips out his DNI can be seen.

Deimos: We're not finished!

The camera keeps panning to Malum from the place where Krueger was killed.

Dolos: She's burned your hearts, you're already weakening. Once she destroys your soul, it will be complete.

More flashbacks of the team's corruption are seen.

F. Player: What choice do you have, Deimos?

The flashbacks intensify fast.

F. Player: THIS is the world you made for yourself.

Deimos: I cannot be defeated. I won't be undone! I cannot be undone!

The screen fades to white.

Gameplay #4[]

The Player comes to as she returns to Zürich, with her hand outstretched to interface with a console.

Deimos: Why won't. You. Just. Die...?

The Player looks to her right and sees Deimos coming towards her. The Player pulls out her MR6, but shooting it does nothing to stop Deimos. Taylor then emerges and grabs hold of Deimos, struggling to keep it at bay.

Dolos: This is your chance! Let's see what a mortal can do! DO IT! KILL HIM!

The Player interfaces with the console as the area around her brightens.

Deimos: No... I am Deimos! Demigod of DREAD AND TERROR!

The Player then successfully activates the DNI Purge Sequence. Suddenly, both Taylor and Deimos have abruptly disappeared from the room.

F. Player: Oh yeah? How's this for fucking horrifying?

While walking out of the building with her MR6 with the fading Colors...

F. Player: Wait... this is Zürich. You said I couldn't come back to Earth...

Dolos: Right now - we've got bigger problems.

F. Player: Why? Because we killed your brother - Heir to the Throne of Malum?

Dolos: We've thrown this universe into anarchy. Demigods, Sirens, Titans, Deities alike will go to war.

A door opens, allowing access back to the facility's main entrance.

F. Player: Let them come.

Dolos: I like the sound of that. So... what's the plan, partner?

Interfacing with the final panel opens the main entrance's shutters to more of the Undead gathered around the entrance as the color returns.

F. Player: [laughs] We kill every last one of these motherfuckers.

The Female Player readies her KRM-262 to fight against the Undead as the screen dramatically cuts to black and the credits roll.
