The M40 is a bolt-action sniper rifle in Call of Duty: Black Ops (Nintendo DS)

Campaign[]

The M40 appears in the missions Breaking FreeTo The Motherland and The Payback. The M40 is a powerful weapon in the campaign. It takes one hit to kill an enemy in recruit and regular difficulties. In Hardened difficulty, the M40 is difficult to use because it loses its one-hit kill capability. The M40 sniper rifle is always used to takedown enemies at longer ranges. The silenced M40 is more common than the regular one. The silenced M40 is used frequently in stealth missions in Europe.

Multiplayer[]

The M40 is available by default in multiplayer. The M40 sniper rifle is a powerful and accurate weapon in multiplayer. It always take one shot to kill an enemy, therefore, Stopping Power perk is unnecessary, unless the enemy uses the Body Armor Perk. The M40 works excellently in killing enemies on medium-long ranges. The M40 can also be used on short range when the player is found of quickscoping. The weapon, however, suffers from poor fire rate due to the bolt cycling, slow ADS time, recoil and reload. However, the stats can be countered by the perks available. The recoil can be countered using Nerves of Steel Perk and the slow reload can be countered by using Sleight of Hand Perk. Overall, the handling of the M40 depends on the play style of the players. Achieving 150 kills with the M40 unlocks its silencer.
