For a similarly named scorestreak in Advanced Warfare, see XS1 Vulcan.

The M61 Vulcan is a 20mm gatling gun that is typically mounted to aircraft.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2[]

The "M61 Vulcan" is seen mounted to a Black Hawk helicopter in the mission "Of Their Own Accord" and in the Special Ops mission Big Brother. The gun functions similarly to that of the M134 Minigun though it has the advantage of dealing splash damage; it is accurate, has a high recoil, and requires spooling of the barrel before being fired - thus, it can be pre-prepped in singleplayer by using the aim button.

The M61 Vulcan is also seen as it is carried by the F-15 Eagles which perform airstrikes at various points in the game.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3[]

The M61 Vulcan is carried by the F-15 Eagles depicted in game.

Call of Duty: Ghosts[]

The M61 Vulcan is seen mounted to both the F-15 Eagles and F/A-18E Super Hornets in game.

Trivia[]

  • Though it is called an M61 Vulcan in game, the miniguns mounted to Blackhawks in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 appear to be M134 Miniguns. The gun itself is smaller than an M61 and the ammunition feed shown is much too small to be 20mm ammunition. Additionally, the recoil of an M61 Vulcan is 10-20x that of the M134 and could not be door-mounted in a helicopter as shown.
  • The words "GAU 5" are printed on the gun (though the helicopters shown are US Army Blackhawks and not USAF Pave Hawks)
  • It cannot be pre-spooled in Big Brother, due to the aim function being used to slow down the helicopter.
  • Bullet casings can be seen being ejected from the side of the gun; although, only a small amount of bullet casings are actually ejected when compared to the amount of bullets fired in the same time.
  • The player's hands cannot be seen while using the gun.
