The MP412 is a revolver featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Campaign[]

The MP412 is commonly used as a sidearm by the Spetsnaz, GIGN and the Inner Circle, and can be found in the missions "Black Tuesday", "Persona Non Grata", and "Turbulence".

It is more powerful than other pistols barring the Desert Eagle, but is inconsistent in damage (some enemies will take only one shot to kill, others taking up to four shots). The Reload Cancel technique is impossible with this gun in either Campaign or Multiplayer (except when playing as a Juggernaut).

Multiplayer[]

The MP412 is unlocked at level 30.

The MP412 has very inconsistent damage. At any range short of 12.5 meters, the MP412 will deal 49 damage per bullet, needing three shots to kill. Damage linearly decreases until 31 meters. At any range past 31 meters, the MP412 will deal seventeen damage per bullet, needing six shots to kill. The MP412 has several body multipliers. The MP412 not only deals 40% extra damage on a headshot, but it also deals 40% extra damage to the neck, 40% extra damage to the upper torso, and 10% extra damage to the lower torso. Striking any of these areas at close range will boost the MP412's damage enough to guarantee a two shot kill. At longer ranges, multiple shots to the 40% extra damage regions are required to avoid a six shot kill. The damage the MP412 is dealing is almost as dependent on user aim as it is on range. With that said, the MP412's steep damage drop-off will make it a poor fit for medium-long range combat. The MP412 has medium penetration power, allowing it to shoot through objects more efficiently than the lower-damage handguns.

The MP412's fire rate is decent. The MP412 is semi-automatic, and has a firecap of 759 RPM, or just a bit over 12 shots per second. This firecap is very high for most users. The MP412's lacking sustained combat capability limits the user's ability to sustain such a level of output for more than a fleeting moment.

The MP412's accuracy is mediocre. The iron sights are fairly clean, but the recoil per shot is very consistently heavy. The MP412 always kicks up with a value of 60 or 80, and always to the right with a value of 40 or 50. The MP412 cannot kick downwards or to the left. The MP412 may kick very heavily with each shot, but the recoil's predictability means that users can get used to it. The MP412 has a centerspeed of 1500, which is the strongest value on any of the handguns. The MP412 has a very minor amount of shot spread while aiming down the sights, and some idle sway.

The MP412 has the worst handling of any handgun. The MP412 has a movement speed set at 100%, meaning the MP412 will not slow down the user. However, should the user's primary restrict movement speed, that will carry over to the MP412 as well. The MP412 has a strafe speed of 80% that isn't so heavily affected by a heavy primary weapon. The MP412 has an aim down sight time of 150 milliseconds, and the hip-fire accuracy of an SMG. The MP412's reload speeds are by far the worst aspect of the weapon, and they are dreadfully slow. The MP412's reload animation is 4.16 seconds long, and the MP412's Reload Cancel speed is 3.2 seconds long. Even when performing optimal reload cancels, the MP412's reload speeds are extremely long, especially on a weapon that only holds six shots before needing to reload. Reloads will be a constant nuisance that will endanger the user. Sleight of Hand is almost rendered mandatory on account of how terrible the reload speed is. The MP412's handling traits either match or lag behind the .44 Magnum in all facets.

As the MP412 is a revolver, it only holds six shots before needing to reload. The MP412 has a starting ammo loadout of 36 rounds, which is standard for a handgun.

The MP412 has access to two attachments: Akimbo and Tactical Knife.

Akimbo will allow the user to use two MP412's at once, sharing the same ammo loadout and being unable to aim down the sight. The MP412 lowers the firecap of each revolver to 612 RPM, and oddly, improves the reload speeds. The reload animation of each revolver is only 3.3 seconds long, and the reload cancel speed for each revolver is 2.8 seconds long. The attachment makes the MP412 brutally powerful up close, with the very real chance to two shot enemies instantaneously. The attachment also improves the MP412's atrocious reload speed. Despite the attachment highly improving the MP412, the .44 Magnum is better suited for Akimbo usage.

The Tactical Knife provides a faster melee recovery, allowing the user to follow up a melee attack much more effectively. The Tactical Knife is the best option available for melee-only builds, but it also provides a nice bonus for those who want to use the solo MP412. The enhanced melee proficiency can compensate for the MP412's lacking sustained fire capability.

Overall, the MP412 is an extremely flawed weapon that is rendered irrelevant by the .44 Magnum. Once the user unlocks the .44 Magnum, they will essentially have an MP412 that reloads twice as fast, has an even tighter hip-fire spread, and matches the MP412 in nearly every other facet. The MP412 has no direct advantage over the .44 Magnum stat-wise. The only objective reason to use the MP412 over the .44 Magnum is for less idle sway and slower idle sway. Even with that in mind, the advantage of far faster reloads the .44 Magnum possesses is oftentimes far more desirable for those wanting to use a solo revolver. The MP412 is one of the least used secondary weapons in Multiplayer due to its severe shortcomings and the fact that it is almost entirely outclassed.

The MP412 is the sidearm equipped with the Juggernaut pointstreak, along with the M60E4. It is also seen in the Money in the Denk game mode where it is seen in the "In" class.

Special Ops[]

The MP412 is available for both Survival and Mission modes.

Mission Mode[]

The MP412 is an alternate weapon in the Mission Mode challenge Stay Sharp, and is used by enemies in Last Stand in several missions.

Survival Mode[]

The MP412 is the starting weapon for Tier 3 (Hard) Survival Mode missions. It is also available from the Weapon Armory at level 2 for $250. It's low magazine capacity and long reload (and inability to reload cancel) makes it an unreliable weapon to use.

Trivia[]

  • With the Tactical Knife, the final spinning of the cylinder is not done, shortening the length of the reload. However, that increases the switch time for counter-balance.
  • In the reload animation, when loading shells in the player is supposed to be using a speed loader, but it is not visible. The bullets just float in place when the player is loading them in.
  • The MP412, when used by a Juggernaut in multiplayer, can be reload canceled as soon as the casings are emptied from the cylinder.
