Campaign
The MP5 is the first submachine gun used in the Modern Warfare series campaign. The MP5 can be found frequently, being used by the Ultranationalists in the missions, "Blackout", "Hunted", "Safehouse", "One Shot, One Kill", "The Sins of the Father" and "No Fighting In The War Room". In "Shock and Awe", Pelayo uses an MP5 in her efforts to fend off Insurgents after her helicopter is downed and she is awaiting reinforcements.
The "MP5SD" is a variant with a built-in suppressor (as opposed to multiplayer where the silencer is an attachment) and it is used by the SAS in "Crew Expendable", "Ultimatum" and "Mile High Club" and by Soap in "F.N.G.".
Multiplayer
In multiplayer, the MP5 is available at level 1, in the default class "Spec Ops", and can be equipped with a Red Dot Sight, Silencer or ACOG Scope. It is one of the more popular submachine guns in multiplayer because of its low unlock level, relatively controllable recoil, and high damage at close range. The MP5 kills in three-to-five shots, and two-to-four shots with Stopping Power equipped. It has very high damage and range for a submachine gun, being a three-shot kill up to 18 meters and being a five-shot kill at 25 meters. Head shots generally decrease the number of bullets to kill at most ranges by one. As with all sub machine guns, the MP5's high damage at close range drops off very quickly, making it very competitive at close range but inferior to weapons such as assault rifles or sniper rifles at long range.
The MP5's recoil profile is 70 upwards and to the left, 80 to the right, and 30 downwards; recoil kicks up fairly strongly and to the right. This is offset somewhat by its high center speed of 1700. Hip fire is a valid tactic as the high damage offsets the relatively low rate of fire. Reload speeds, empty or not, are some of the fastest in the submachine gun class. As with most submachine guns, wall penetration power is very low.
The MP5 has a moderate rate of fire for the submachine gun class at 800 RPM. This rate of fire can be increased with Double Tap at 1064 RPM. This comes at a heavy price, however, due to the increased ammo consumption and recoil.
The MP5 has average handling statics for the SMG category. Its ADS time is identical to the other submachine guns at 200 milliseconds. The MP5 also moves at a base 100% movement speed as the other SMGs.
Carrying the M9 as a sidearm while using the MP5 adds extra ammunition to the reserve ammunition for both weapons, somewhat negating the need for Bandolier, because they share the same ammo pool. The Mini-Uzi also shares the same ammo pool as the MP5. However, as the weapon is common, ammunition is easily picked up. This weapon is usually better in close range combat, as its recoil can throw off one's aim at longer ranges. This, combined with its low damage at range, means that it is often futile to try and kill someone outside of medium range.
The MP5 has a very fast raise time after sprinting, and the character's arms move faster when sprinting, unlike any other weapon.

Old School Mode
The MP5 appears in Old School Mode with 30 rounds in the magazine and 60 rounds of reserve ammunition.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Nintendo DS)
In Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Nintendo DS), the MP5 is very different compared to the console and PC version. It takes the appearance of its silenced variant, but this is only cosmetic.
Campaign
The MP5 is the starting weapon for every SAS mission, excluding "The Russian". It has a very high rate of fire, similar to those of the MAC-10 and Mini-Uzi. Game files refer to it as the "MP5 SD".
Multiplayer
The MP5 has a 40-round magazine in multiplayer as opposed to having a 30-round magazine in singleplayer.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized
Campaign
The MP5 returns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized, remodeled, to resemble the one from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare more. The MP5 is the starting weapon in "Training", "Distant Information", "Wrecking Crew", and "Interception". Despite the same appearance as its console, and PC counterpart, it has a higher rate of fire, more damage, and only holds up to 120 rounds of reserve ammunition.
Multiplayer
In multiplayer, it is unlocked by default as well, but its hipfire accuracy is worse than the MP5 in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Nintendo DS) and on the console, and PC version, except while crouching, where its hipfire accuracy is perfect. Its magazine holds 30 rounds but the high rate of fire and slow reload make this weapon inferior to the more powerful weapons like the M4A1 or the P90.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

The MP5 does not appear in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, however a code remains for it (mp5). It is most likely replaced with the MP5K. Using a console command "give mp5" will give the player an MP5K instead. Also, two HUD icons can be found in game files.
It appears briefly in the cutscene of S.S.D.D. along with the W1200.
Call of Duty: Black Ops

The MP5 cannot be obtained via normal means both in Single Player and Multiplayer in Call of Duty: Black Ops. The MP5 model is present in the game to serve as a placeholder for testing purpose whilst the raw files have not been removed from the games. Items such as textures, mesh, limited sound effects and animation are still present, mirroring almost exactly as its Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare counterpart with the difference being the in-game statistics mirroring that of the MP5K obtainable by normal means in the game.
The weapon is only obtainable via a combination of file force-loading and developer consoles commands. The HUD icon also reuses the icon of the common MP5K in-game. Reload time and firing sound effects are identical to the MP5K however, the cocking ammunition after a dry reload produces no sound.
Modern Warfare 2: Ghost
The MP5 is used by Roba's men to kill some Americans at Coahuila, Mexico.

The MP5 returns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. It sports a new appearance, with a fixed stock (instead of the retractable stock in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare), a Rail Interface System handguard, and a top rail for optical attachments.
Campaign
The MP5 is first featured in the campaign in "Hunter Killer" with a Red Dot Sight and Silencer. It is then featured again in "Mind the Gap" with a Holographic Sight and Silencer. It is also usable during "Bag and Drag". It is also used by Yuri and Price in "Stronghold" with a Red Dot Sight and Silencer. It is the main weapon of Team Anvil in "Black Tuesday", but is unavailable to the player during that level.
Multiplayer
The MP5 is available from the start in multiplayer.
The MP5 is a moderate damage, longer-ranged SMG. At any range short of fifteen meters, the MP5 will deal 42 damage, needing three shots to kill. Damage decreases linearly until twenty meters. At any range beyond twenty meters, the MP5 will deal twenty damage per bullet, needing five shots to kill. The MP5 has a three hit kill range of seventeen meters, and a four hit kill range of nineteen meters. In Hardcore game types, the MP5 has a one shot kill range of eighteen meters. A headshot will deal 50% more damage than normal, usually reducing the number of shots to kill by one, and ensuring a one shot kill in Hardcore game types. Like most SMGs, the MP5 has a large difference between its maximum and its minimum damage, and the damage drops off abruptly, so users may find the MP5 to be very inconsistent at medium ranges. The MP5's range values are solid and give the MP5 the second longest three and four hit kill ranges in its class, only bested by the UMP45. The MP5, like most SMGs, has low penetration power, meaning most surfaces will heavily reduce the MP5's damage.
The MP5's rate of fire is average, at 895 RPM. This rate of fire is solid and is only bested by the PP90M1 and the PM-9. The MP5 has the same fire rate as the MP7, and the MP5 has a far greater three hit and four hit kill range than the MP7. Such forms the MP5's niche: it is an SMG that combines above-average range with an above-average rate of fire.
The MP5's accuracy is one of its main weaknesses. The iron sights of the MP5 are very clean and easy to use, but the recoil per shot is some of the largest of all SMGs. The MP5 has recoil values of 80 to the left, 80 to the right, 70 upwards, and 30 downwards. The MP5 will kick upwards with decent force, but its recoil from side to side is fierce. The MP5 has some of the strongest horizontal recoil values in the game, making it so that the user's aim can very easily be swayed off track. The MP5 thankfully has a good centerspeed to offset this, with a value of 1650. The MP5 is a weapon that benefits greatly from the Kick proficiency, as the MP5's recoil values are very large.
The MP5's handling characteristics are solid. Users can move at 100% of the base speed, strafe at 80% of the base speed, aim down the sight in 200 milliseconds, and users have a small hip-fire spread. The MP5 has some of the quickest reloads in its class, with a reload animation of 2.53 seconds, or 3.03 seconds if the magazine is empty. In either case, the MP5 can Reload Cancel in 1.77 seconds. This reload cancel speed isn't impressive overall, but it's good enough to tie with the UMP45 and the P90 as the fastest reload cancel speed of all SMGs.
One of the MP5's biggest weaknesses is its magazine capacity. It has the smallest magazine capacity of all SMGs, holding just thirty rounds. The MP5 gives users a ninety round starting ammo loadout.
The MP5 benefits from several weapon proficiencies. Kick is a good option, as the reduction in recoil will go a long way to making the MP5 more accurate. Range is an extremely useful proficiency to decrease the chance of needing five shots to kill, maximizing the MP5's lethality, which is one of the MP5's defining strengths. Attachments is another great choice to allow the user to combine multiple attachments on the MP5. If using the Specialist Strike Package, the user should use the Attachments proficiency, as the benefits that other proficiencies provide can be collected through the Specialist Bonus, although the benefit of a second attachment cannot be earned in this manner.
The MP5 provides the usual selection of attachments to choose from. All of the optical attachments are pointless on the MP5, as its iron sights are as clear as can be. The attachments still hold some utility, as users can use the optical attachments to complete gun challenges to accrue weapon XP, but shouldn't use said attachments once their respective challenges are completed.
The Silencer is a mixed bag on the MP5. The stealth benefit provided never hurts, especially for an aggressive weapon like an SMG, but range is one of the MP5's biggest advantages over other SMGs, and equipping a Silencer goes against that advantage.
Rapid Fire is a fantastic attachment choice, as it'll increase the MP5's RPM to an enormous 1132 RPM. This gives the MP5 ferocious close quarters capability and makes it among the most dangerous weapons in its effective range. That being said, Rapid Fire will make the MP5 even less accurate than it already is, making the MP5 hard to control at medium to long range combat.
Extended Mags is a logical and safe attachment choice on the MP5, increasing the magazine capacity to 45 rounds, and boosting the starting ammo loadout by fifty percent. Extended Mags fixes one of the MP5's bigger weaknesses as an SMG, and heavily increases the MP5's sustained fire capability. There's no downside to using Extended Mags, and given the MP5's small magazine capacity, it's easily one of the best attachment options.
Infinity Ward has released a hotfix that increased the MP5's fire rate. Prior to the patch, the MP5 was outclassed in every way by the P90. To compensate for this, the MP5 now has a similar fire rate to the MP7, although the recoil is slightly higher. This makes it a much more competitive gun than before.
In the game mode Money in the Denk, the MP5 is seen in the "In" class, where it is equipped with Rapid Fire.
Survival Mode
The MP5 is available in Survival Mode by default and costs $2000. The MP5 is also carried by medium troops from wave 4 (wave 1 on tier 3 and 4 maps). When used right, despite the unpredictable recoil, the MP5 can be used as a cheaper assault rifle, especially if equipped with a Holographic or Red Dot Sight, although burst firing will be required for long ranges. The MP5 is also carried by the Riot Shield Squad troops, but will disappear when killed.

The MP5 returns in Call of Duty: Black Ops II in Zombies and the campaign. Its appearance is similar to the MP5 in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, albeit with minor visual changes.
Campaign
The MP5 is unlocked at the start of the campaign. It is widely used by PDF soldiers in "Time and Fate" and "Suffer With Me". It is the starting weapon in "Suffer With Me". When equipped with a Suppressor, it becomes the MP5SD.
Attachments
Zombies
The MP5 appears in Zombies, replacing the MP5K from Call of Duty: Black Ops. It can be bought off the wall for 1000 points. Compared to the MP5K, it has similar damage, ammo capacity, and overall effectiveness. When Pack-a-Punched, it becomes the MP115 Kollider. The MP5 cannot be Pack-a-Punched more than once, but ammo can be bought off the wall, making it a decent alternative to the weapons from Mystery Box.

The MP5 returns in Call of Duty: Mobile as the QQ9. It was added as part of the Season 7 Radioactive Agent update.
Multiplayer
The QQ9 features the ability to four-shot kill in short distances, which makes it dangerous when combined with its high fire rate. In addition, it has a very predictable recoil pattern, making it a versatile SMG for close-mid range encounters. When equipped with the 10mm 30 Round Reload, it receives a damage increase that does not seem to decrease the shots needed to kill, but will also receive a significant range boost in exchange for a slightly slower fire rate.
Battle Royale
The QQ9 was added to Battle Royale in Season 9. It has very high rate of fire and good damage, allowing it to kill well-armored players quickly. In Season 11, the gun received a hipfire buff, which makes the gun very dangerous at close to mid range. The QQ9 is available as Common, Rare and Epic blueprints. The Legendary blueprint can only be found in Airdrops.

Black Ops Cold War MP5 is also available in Call of Duty: Warzone, along with the MP5 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Campaign
The MP5 is one of the common SMGs used by Spetsnaz. It is also the main SMG used by the Stasi. It's among the three weapons that can be selected from the trunk of a car in "Nowhere Left to Run". Helen Park gives "Bell" her MP5 when fighting Anton Volkov and his men, and it's the primary weapon in "Desperate Measures" when infiltrating the archive bunker. It also makes a Cameo appearance in "Break on Through" where it can be used by Bell during the 1968 flashback.
Zombies
The MP5 can be brought into any map via Create-A-Class, at Loadout rarity and can be found at any rarity via the Mystery Box for 950 Essence. Within Die Maschine, It can be found in the "Omega Bunker" as a Wall Gun costing 1,250 Essence coming with three attachments and at Uncommon Rarity. When upgraded via Pack-a-Punch Machine it becomes the Mystic Pony Express, gaining increased stats which change depending on which attachments are currently equipped.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
- When using this gun with a silencer, it uses a different camouflage pattern.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
- Even though it is fully-automatic, the fire selector is set to semi-automatic.
- In the "Hunter Killer" and "Stronghold" campaign reveal, the MP5 has a grip attached. However, the gun is held as if it did not have one.
- On the back of the left side of the stock, there's a piece of white tape with the letter "A" written on it in blue.
- As seen in the Survival Mode Trailer, the MP5 originally had a 20 round magazine.
- At Call of Duty XP, the MP5 reused the MP5K's pickup icon from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II
- The customization picture shows the stock in the extended position. The third-person model's stock is in the collapsed position.
- A small "1" can be seen under the back iron sight post.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered
- It is possible to access an MP5 with half its model missing via modding.
- When attaching the silencer, the MP5 will become MP5SD. However, some weapon kits can change it into a MP5 with a silencer equipped normally like other weapons.
