Doctor Johanna Mendelsohn is a character featured in the Call of Duty: Mobile comics.
Background[]
Four years before the incident in New Vision City, Dietrich Ansel is talking with Dr. Mendelsohn while driving in the Swiss Alps. He intends to implement the 'Omega Protocol' to allow the Iron Will to achieve its full potential, which Dr. Mendelsohn advises him against, going as far as to tell him that is his 'personal' Rubicon and that once he crosses it, there's no turning back.
The Director remains adamant in his decision, and when Dr. Mendelsohn decides that she won't be able to follow in his footsteps, he tells her to empty her desk, and to leave her laboratory in an hour, insinuating he's fired her. Despite Dr. Mendelsohn pleading with the Director not to abandon their friendship, he informs that she lacks the vision to carry the Iron Will further, though he's grateful for her contributions. However, before Dr. Mendelsohn can continue, she is cut off by the Director.
Following the events in New Vision City, Dr. Mendelsohn resides in the snowy terrain of Manitoba, Canada, where she has set up an advanced Reaper trap. When David Mason and Alias come looking for her, thanks to Cipher tracking down her residence, Dr. Mendelsohn springs her trap on the duo. Through the Reapers, she speaks to the duo, and after recognizing Alias for her work on machine intelligence, she decides to let them inside.
Afterwards, she learns that they intend to stop the Iron Will, with Alias wanting to know how it thinks and predicts, and find a way to counter it, or even shut it off. However, Dr. Mendelsohn warns them that there's no way to shut off the Iron Will, as the Director had given control over its off-switch to the AI--she had cautioned him against it 4 years ago, and he fired her.
Although the Iron Will is presently contained, it would have catastrophic results if it were to be released onto the global net. But if they were able to gain access to it, they'd be able to find holes in the AI's predictive model and evade its notice; however, there're only 2 places where they can access it, one being in New Vision City, and the other being withheld by Dr. Mendelsohn due to her wariness of the pair being able to accomplish the task.
Alias pleads with her to help them as they only have one chance, and they wouldn't be able to stop the Iron Will if the Director were to release it publicly. Finally, Dr. Mendelsohn relents and tells them about Memnos, an island in the Aegean Sea where Atlas Corporation operates a hidden laboratory, which is the other place they can access the Iron Will. Mason finally understood why she was reluctant to tell them, as island assaults are never easy--unless they're invited. Alias perks up at there being a possibility to stop the AI, but Dr. Mendelsohn tells her that it's a slim one and not to get her hopes up.
She mentions that every year, Atlas hosts a gathering on Memnos for the world's most powerful, with various figures of power or influence present such as CEO's, Presidents, dictators and Popes. She also says that the Director sends her an invitation to the gathering every year, but has always turned it down, and decides she will finally go this time.
Afterwards, Dr. Mendelsohn, accompanied by Ether and Mason, posing as her security detail, infiltrate the gathering on Memnos Island. As a security guard checks on her, Ether and Mason's identities (the latter two of which have false identities given by Cipher), they are soon cleared to enter. As they enter, Mason and Ether note the presence of other world leaders, and Dr. Mendelsohn states that those that can't be present will always send a representative: anyone who plays in the hall of power, their attendance in the event is mandatory. Mason wonders if Atlas ever tells governments what to do, and Dr. Mendelsohn tells him that they're never so blunt, they simply tell the governments what Atlas thinks is important, and they're expected to fall in line--and anyone that doesn't follow, Atlas will simply keep coming at them until they get their way.
Just then, Dr. Mendelsohn spots the Director in the crowd, while wondering what has become of him. She tells Ether and Mason that she will have to talk to him, and advises them to go meet with their contact while she occupies the Director's attention. She calls Diedrich, who says that he was pleasantly surprised when he learned he decided to attend the event this year, and saying it was "our work" that made it possible, which Dr. Mendelsohn scoffs at. She then asks about "William", which the Director says has grown much since she and William were last acquainted; he decides now isn't the time for such weighty subjects, and tells Dr. Mendelsohn to go enjoy herself as it is a celebration.
He asks about her security detail, and Dr. Mendelsohn says she found their presence stifling, so she told them to go mingle, as the event is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity after all.
