The Molotov Cocktail is a piece of equipment featured in Call of Duty: World at War, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Call of Duty: WWII, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Call of Duty: Mobile, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Call of Duty: Vanguard, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. It also makes a brief appearance in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops III.
Call of Duty: World at War[]
The Molotov Cocktail appears as a universal piece of equipment found in Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies.
Campaign[]
The Molotov Cocktail is found throughout the Red Army Campaign as special grenades, unlike in Multiplayer where they are primary grenades. When an enemy in campaign mode is hit with a Molotov, they will be incapacitated by the flames.
Multiplayer[]
The Molotov Cocktail is a primary grenade unlocked at level 10. The player needs to hit an enemy directly to kill them, unless playing in Hardcore mode where an indirect hit may also succeed. Molotov Cocktails have a very long lighting time in comparison to other grenades, but to balance this they explode on contact and may be held while lit for an indefinite amount of time. Like the other fire based weapons, Molotov Cocktails may start fires on the ground which last for a short period of time. Many players will refuse to walk into fire which they see as a danger, even though it will not cause any damage.
Zombies[]
The Molotov Cocktail is a secondary grenade in Nazi Zombies, obtained through the Mystery Box for 950 points, and they do not restock between rounds like grenades do. It has low damage, only able to kill zombies in early rounds, with its effectiveness wearing off before round 10. While they are not resupplied by Max Ammo on Nacht der Untoten and Verrückt, and can only be reacquired through the Mystery Box after going down, the Molotov Cocktails can be reobtained with Max Ammo on Shi No Numa and Der Riese.
In addition to these slew of issues, Molotovs inflict massive splash damage to the player, and it is extremely easy to accidentally down oneself using them. Even worse, they are treated as explosives, and as such, throwing one too close to the player will cause shellshock, deafness and slowed movement speed similar to a Stun Grenade. This makes the player a very easy target for Zombies. Avoid them at all costs.

Call of Duty: Black Ops[]
The Molotov Cocktail returns in the campaign, appearing in three separate missions. The Molotov Cocktail can also be obtained by using the "give all" command in the Developer Console on PC, which uses the same animation as the Call of Duty: World at War version.
Campaign[]
Molotov Cocktails make their first appearance in Vorkuta, where Russian prisoners use them against the prison's emplacements. Alex Mason later uses a slingshot to launch Molotov Cocktails onto three buildings. There are an unlimited number of Molotov Cocktails at Mason's disposal, but if Mason destroys all three objectives with only three Molotov Cocktails, the player will unlock the Slingshot Kid achievement.
In The Defector, a North Vietnamese soldier will throw a Molotov Cocktail from a window into the player's path. Walking into the fire will kill the player.
In Rebirth, Molotov Cocktails are used against Jason Hudson's squad during the mission, where Russian soldiers will throw Molotov Cocktails from a balcony at Hudson's vehicle. This can be prevented by killing them beforehand.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3[]
The Molotov Cocktail makes a very brief appearance in the campaign missions Eye of the Storm and Blood Brothers. Molotov Cocktails are occasionally used by the Czech Resistance against Russian soldiers, however they are not usable or obtainable by the player.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II[]
The Molotov Cocktail returns in Time and Fate, where it can be acquired using the Access Kit. It functions similarly to the Call of Duty: World at War version, except that it appears in an equipment slot rather than a grenade slot, and therefore has to be brought out first by pressing up on the d-pad (consoles) or Q (on PC) before being lit and thrown with the fire button.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III[]

It's also possible to access an unfinished Molotov Cocktail via the Developer Console.
