The North Atlantic Treaty Organization or NATO is a military alliance created by the North Atlantic Treaty signed on April 4, 1949. NATO appeared in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and in Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 while in Omnipedia of Call of Duty: Black Ops III, as shown in a Tweet from TheUnmarkedMan.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
In the game, multiple NATO-affiliated countries were attacked by Makarov's Inner Circle. Strategic placements of the chemical attacks crippled the defenses of the countries and paved the way for the Ultranationalists to invade afterward.
Black Ops Timeline
NATO appears as a supporting faction against the Warsaw Pact and the Strategic Defense Coalition. NATO dissolved sometime after the Collapse of the European Union and which would be replaced with the Winslow Accord.[1]
Ghosts Timeline
In the game, NATO is involved in the Tel Aviv War, supporting the United States and Israel against various Middle Eastern Invaders, including Iran. They are later seen supporting the United States against the Federation of the Americas in the Federation War.
