One in the Chamber is a wager game mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops. One in the Chamber consists of 6 players competing in a free-for-all style game with a twist: each player starts off with only a pistol, a single bullet, a knife, and three lives.
Once a player has fired their bullet, the only means of acquiring another one is by getting a kill. This means that if a player kills an opponent with a bullet, they will get that bullet back. However, if a player happens to have no ammo left, then their only remaining method of killing is by knife. Knifing earns one bullet, which means that players can have more than one bullet at a time if they choose to knife their enemies as opposed to shooting them.
Toward the end of the match when only two players remain, a spy plane will appear to show both players on the radar as a way to prevent camping that would excessively prolong the match.
The winners of One in the Chamber are the players with the highest scores. Kills earn 100 points, while survivor bonuses (being alive when another player is eliminated) net 10 points. While it may seem as though it's a Last Man Standing setup, it's easily possible to be in the money without being one of the last few alive.
Tips and Tricks
- It's recommended to try and go for knives whenever possible as to try and stockpile additional bullets.
- Moving in an erratic, unpredictable pattern is key to staying alive in face-to-face confrontation when you know or think it is very likely that the other player still has bullets. However, jumping can be very dangerous as it is impossible to change direction in midair, giving players a chance to try and follow the arc of the jump and shoot the player in midair or where they predict the player will land.
- It is not recommended to go down narrow hallways because if a player approaches from behind, it is much easier for them to land a shot since the player has no ability to move left or right.
- While shooting can kill further than knifing, knifing does not reveal the player's location on the radar and requires no ammo to use.
Trivia
- One in the Chamber is very similar to GoldenEye's Golden Gun mode in that any hit with a bullet results in a kill.
- One in the Chamber games are the shortest wager matches, making them the best for rapidly gaining COD points or the "In The Money" achievement.
- Many say that the knife is an unfair weapon in this wager mode, as players could easily knife only and rack up a lot of bullets.
