"The pathfinders, like Pvt. Martin, will be dropped ahead of the main force, and will plant beacons on the ground to make the landing zones."
Cpt. Foley

"Pathfinder" is the second level in Call of Duty and Call of Duty Classic. As a pathfinder, the player must plant a radio beacon to signal a drop zone and assist the inserted troops.

Plot

Call of Duty-German guard on Pathfinder mission

Private Martin must kill the German soldier on guard duty (seen here) very shortly after landing.

To Sgt. Heath

Private Martin will parachute into Normandy from a C-47 aircraft and land in a large field in the middle of the night. He will then have to kill a German soldier on guard duty. Soon after, Sgt. Heath is found hanging from a tree, dead. Next to him is the equipment that he needs.

Setting up the beacon

After picking up the beacon, player will encounter several more Germans inside a concrete bunker. Private Martin must then kill both Germans. Then a Opel-Blitz and Half-track truck carrying German troops goes by down the road not far from the field. After that, player will then plant the beacon in the field and wait for airborne troops to land. Soon after German Air Raid sirens are heard, and then Anti-Aircraft/FlaK guns open fire at the C-47's dropping U.S. Paratroopers. German gun-fire starts pouring at the American paratroopers in the field from a old farm house near the field. Martin and other fellow paratroopers must clear the buildings of all resistance, then move on to the next objective, taking the town Ste-Mere Eglise.

Getting to the end

Private Martin and other American paratroopers then come under heavy German gun-fire. The player must clear all resistance and meet up with Captian Foley.

Trivia

  • After killing the soldier by the tree, the player can go into the house to the right and there will be a small flashing red cylinder that says "Coka Kola" and a radio playing.
  • The game files reveal a design document showing a possibly different iteration of the level; where the player doesn't have an objective aside from getting to the end, and faces a Flakpanzer.
