"Outlaw, this is Deadly. Refueled and fully loaded. You guys miss me?"
— Cpt. Pelayo, returning to cover the pinned down recon team.

Captain Pelayo was the pilot of an AH-1W Super Cobra, callsign "Deadly," in the United States Marine Corps who worked with Keating in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered.

Biography[]

She is first heard in the level, "Charlie Don't Surf" while the Blackhawk Helicopter Sgt. Jackson is on is traveling to the coast. She is also seen in the level "Shock and Awe" where she covers Outlaw 2-5 and the ground forces advancing on the city. She is shot down by a Stinger missile right when the nuclear device is said to be probable by the NEST team. Vasquez volunteers to stay behind and help her out. This unfortunately seals the fate of everyone in Jackson's squad and Pelayo herself.

Vasquez leads Jackson and the other squad members out into the streets and Jackson helps Pelayo out of her helicopter. Her right leg is broken, and Jackson is forced to carry her. After helping her escape from the threats below, Khaled Al-Asad's nuke goes off, killing everyone on the helicopter and downing many other helicopters as well. When the player staggers out of the crashed helicopter, her corpse can be seen on the ground next to the crash site.

In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, Pelayo actually survives the Sea Knight crash after Vladimir Makarov ordered the nuclear device to detonate in the Capital City. Crawling out of the Sea Knight wreckage and into the destroyed City, Pelayo (alongside Jackson and a few other Force Reconnaissance Marines) managed to live a couple minutes longer than their dead squadmates, who died in the explosion and crash. However, Pelayo was completely exposed to radiation from the nuke and eventually died of radiation poisoning, with Jackson himself dying several moments later.

Trivia[]

  • Pelayo delivering MP5 fire out of the helicopter at an overwhelming enemy force is similar to a real life situation portrayed in Black Hawk Down, in which Chief Warrant Officer 4 Micheal Durant of the crashed Black Hawk shoots enemy insurgents with an MP5 as they try to overtake him and his rescue team.
  • When Jackson places Pelayo in a seat near the helicopter's exit after rescuing her, she screams in pain due to her broken leg. In the remastered version, there is no such reaction, as Pelayo looks at Jackson in an assuring manner and starts firing at the OpFor soldiers.
  • There is a building named "Pelayo's" on the multiplayer map Favela and on the single player mission "The Hornet's Nest".
  • Files for Pelayo can be found in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
  • She is named and modeled after Infinity Ward employee Velinda "Pelayo" Reyes.
  • In Aftermath, it is impossible to walk over her corpse.
