"You're Project Janus security, yes? A so-called "rapid response team"? Not nearly rapid enough, but I knew you would come."
— Pericles Panos

Dr. Pericles Panos is a character featured in the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies map Liberty Falls. He is a scientist of Project Janus.

Biography[]

Dr. Pericles Panos was a scientist working on Project Janus' Energy Research Division in Liberty Falls. As a secret side project, he was collaborating with a WWII Veteran and moonshiner named Tommy-Joe to create a makeshift distillery using schematics obtained from within Project Janus.[1]

On the 5th of February, 1991, Panos was contacted for the first time by an unknown individual through his dreams, who claimed he could provide him knowledge of the Dark Aether, though Panos would have to want it with "all of his body and soul".[2] Some days later, Panos was again contacted by the mysterious benefactor during one of his lucid dreams, and guided him through a stretch of land covered in mist and fog that included a farmhouse and a "place of nourishment", which the benefactor promised would be "restored", as well as Panos.

On February 18th, a dimensional breach occured at Liberty Falls. Panos tried to use a Limited Transdimensional Gateway Device (LTG) with fellow Janus scientists Dr. Moline and Dr. Pelletier to contain the breach; however, the endeavor ended in a catastrophic failure[1] that led Panos to be trapped inside a Dark Aether pocket dimension in the church area, while Pelletier and Moline were killed shortly thereafter by either injuries from the blast or a zombie attack.

Whilst in the Dark Aether, he met the mysterious person he had met in his dreams for the first time, who then promised Panos not only a way out of the Dark Aether, but also power, forbidden knowledge, and a "reckoning for his enemies". By also proving to Panos that he could master the Dark Aether, Panos accepted the mysterious person's promises and secretly became his agent.[3]

Several hours later, Alpha Team-a Project Janus rapid response team-arrived on the site of the outbreak and made their way into the church. There, Panos initiated contact with them and their handler, John Blanchard when the team interacted with the Simultaneous Dimensional Gateway (SDG). After informing the team that he was unable to leave the Dark Aether pocket dimension, he asked them to rebuild a working LTG to free him and then guided the team during the entire process whilst secretly communicating at times with the mysterious individual.

After helping Alpha Team assemble the Jet Gun, the LTG device and filling the Aether canisters with the energy of the HVTs who were summoned through said LTG, he instructed the team to insert the canisters into the SDG machine that was in the church. Alpha Team then activated the device, which closed off the church area and made an energy orb appear above the machine. After the team successfully charged the orb with the life essence from hostile Zombies, Vermins, Manglers and Abominations, the fully charged SDG downed them. Now in control, Panos took advantage of the downed team and switched places in the Dark Aether with them, thanking them for taking his place in the process; then, after stating he had some scores to settle, Panos promptly abandoned the church and Alpha Team, and left Liberty Falls by heading towards the nearby Janus Towers facility as the town succumbed to the zombie outbreak.[4]

Once Panos reached Project Janus headquarters, he secured himself within its confines and hid from the outbreak that had occurred within it. When the Terminus crew arrived, he attempted to convince them to take his side in killing Blanchard by attempting to persuade them into crafting the Gorgofex and its respective upgrade. It is unknown whether the crew chose to help Panos or Blanchard, and their fates if they are not killed.

  • Siding with Blanchard

If the crew chose to help Panos, they complete several tasks with the Gorgofex weapon - including the construction of a life-draining device - and finish off by heading to Blanchard's security room and draining his life essence. Panos then claims that Blanchard died as he lived: "deeply unpleasant, yet surprisingly useful".

If the crew chose to help Blanchard, they will destroy the physical body of Panos after initiating a lockdown procedure in the Reception area of the map. When the crew reactivates said elevator, Panos' life essence travels to the Quantum Computing area in the form of a light orb, which attempts to live through random zombies that appear nearby. Once every light-infected zombie is killed, all the orbs will unite and will spawn Panos' ghost. After Panos' protests his current form, his life essence would then be sucked into the Gorgofex.
