Story[]

The Phantom Corps' first operation involved Alias and Section going to Manitoba, Canada to find Dr. Mendelsohn. Although they were initially ambushed by her advanced Reaper trap, Dr. Mendelsohn soon lets them in. When told that they intend to stop the Iron Will, Atlas Corporation's AI, Dr. Mendelsohn informs them that there is no way to shut it off, as the Director had granted it full autonomous control over its "off-switch", and if he were to release it globally onto the Internet, it would have devastating effects.

Despite her reservations, Dr. Mendelsohn tells Alias and Section of a secret laboratory run by Atlas, located on an island in the Aegean Ocean, called Memnos. Dr. Mendelsohn tells them that Atlas hosts an annual gathering for the world's most powerful figures every year on Memnos, and the Phantom Corps would be able to gain access to the Iron Will there, the other place being New Vision City. After briefing Alias and Section on the matter, Dr. Mendelsohn decides to go to the gathering on Memnos, having previously turned down all of the Director's previous invitations to the event.

Around this time, Sparrowhawk and her identically dressed operators help to fend off an assassination attempt on Rin Yoshida, fending off Hidora Kai in the process. They declare to Rin that they have chosen different paths--and they have aligned themselves with the Phantom Corps.

Some time later, Dr. Mendelsohn, accompanied by Ether and David Mason, who are posing as her security detail, infiltrate the summit on Memnos Island. Woods is concerned whether the false identities that Cipher had given Ether and Mason will be 'waterproof', which he confirms. As a security guard checks on Dr. Mendelsohn, Ether and Mason's identities, Alias, Woods and Cipher wait in anticipation, until the guard finally finds the group clear and allows them to enter. A few moments later, Dr. Mendelsohn spots the Director among the crowd, and instructs Mason and Ether to find their contact while she distracts him.

While Dr. Mendelsohn chats with the Director, Mason and Ether meet with Dusk, who is accompanied by Kestrel. After much pressing, Kestrel decides to lead them to the underground chamber where the secondary access point to the Iron Will is hidden. However, as they prepare to establish an uplink to the AI, they are interrupted by the Director's arrival, who has caught wind of their mission. Kestrel soon betrays the Director and the Phantom Corps members, revealing her true allegiance to the Tontine, killing the Director and wounding Dusk in the process.

At the same time, Richtofen and Tempest, who are in a lab several floors beneath them, releases Lazarus from stasis. As the Phantom Corps members attempt to escape with the wounded Dusk in tow, they are intercepted by Lazarus, who pursues them into the Eastern Wing. Mason decides to distract Lazarus to buy the other Corps members time to escape, but he is defeated by Lazarus and brought to Richtofen's lab. The other members escape via Shadowfall, who is waiting on a speedboat.

Dusk is later mentioned to be making a recovery from her injuries, through Shadowfall's conversation with Rin Yoshida. At the same time, Deadman also pays a visit to Rin, requesting she make him a new cybernetic limb. Meanwhile, back at Frank Woods' house, the Phantom Corps' members are debating on whether they should attempt to get Mason back. Just then, the Iron Will, in the form of the Director, appears on a TV screen, letting them know of recent developments: the Tontine had been manipulating world events for centuries, and are now orchestrating a calamity that will have global implications, and solidify their grip on world power. As the Iron Will proposes an alliance with the Corps, hostile troops have the house surrounded, with weapons primed and ready.

The Phantom Corps quickly arm themselves, but no sooner are they lit up by hostile gunfire into the house. At the same time, the Iron Will's transmission on the TV is cut off when the troops shoot the TV. Woods orders the team to evacuate via the backyard and through the woods, to reach his nearest neighbor who's located about a hundred yards away. As they head outside to fend off hostile troops, a helicopter arrives, forcing the team to take cover. Alias seeks cover behind a tree, but is soon spotted and shot by Wicht Warden.
