The Portable Minigun Turret is an Equalizer featured in Extinction. It is unlocked by default. Once activated, players can choose where the Turret can be placed. Unlike the Sentry Gun, the Turret needs a player in order to operate. In addition, it can overheat.
The Portable Minigun Turret is a relatively inexpensive equalizer, and when used effectively, can be one of the most cost efficient items in the game. The Portable Minigun Turret really starts to come into its own after the second upgrade is bought, as by this point, the Portable Minigun Turret will have 50 more bullets, and be much more effective at range. The two last upgrades severely increase the Turret's power later in the game. The third upgrade is extremely important, not only adding 25 rounds, but granting an Armor Piercing effect. the fourth and final upgrade adds another 25 bullets and extra damage with explosive bullets.
The Portable Minigun Turret is capable of overheating. To avoid having this happen, users shouldn't be firing fully automatically at Scouts, as they die very quickly to the Turret regardless of how highly upgraded it is. If the user runs the risk of overheating against a heavier opponent, the user should try to limit their fire rate, but if the situation is dire, the user should overheat the turret as quickly as possible and disengage from the turret to finish off the threat.
The Portable Minigun Turret puts the user in a severely vulnerable position, as the Portable Minigun Turret forces the user to stand still, in addition to giving the user a severely limited turning radius. Because of this, players need to place their Portable Minigun Turret very carefully in order to give the user the best chance at properly utilizing it. Users are prone to being flanked, and the user needs to be extremely wary of an enemy Scorpion. One acid cloud fired at the user's position will force them to retreat from their emplaced turret.
The Portable Minigun Turret is a very effective tool to use against a Barrier Hive or the Breeder, as it provides a lot of firepower for a rock bottom price. However, users need to be careful of flanking enemies while doing this, or the Breeder launching an attack via its mounted guns or gas clouds.
