"Field report. Lost contact with unit but continue to gather samples until comrades are reacquired. Atmospheric readings match crystal radiation signature. So this stuff is everywhere. Personal contamination remains in safety range. Four hostile contacts today. I killed three with small arms fire. The other I... avoided. May attempt engaging after I find my squad. There is much to explore here. Stand by for additional reports."
— Pyotr

Pyotr is a character featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies mode. He is a Soviet soldier who is trapped in the Dark Aether, and can be heard in intel found in Die Maschine, Firebase Z, and Outbreak. He also makes a physical appearance in Outbreak as the "lost soul" that can be assisted in the Black Chest objective.

Biography[]

Entry into the Dark Aether[]

Pyotr was part of a group of Soviet soldiers who were sent into the Dark Aether. His mission was supposed to be a quick "in and out", however Pyotr unfortunately got separated from his squad during extraction. Regardless, he continued to gather samples until he could reacquire his comrades. Pyotr began recording field reports documenting his time and discoveries in the Dark Aether, with his first field report documenting his separation from his comrades and his encounter with four "hostile contacts", dispatching three of them with small arms fire.

Travels through the Dark Aether[]

Pyotr continued to document his findings and travels in the Dark Aether, talking about things such as large gatherings in the night, as well as large behemoths that strode the landscape, knocking down trees in it's wake. He eventually came into contact with an old comrade of his, who had been deployed only a week before he did. Pyotr feared that his comrade had lost his mind, as he mostly rambled incoherently. From what he could make out, his comrade stated that he had, impossibly, been in the Dark Aether for months. Afterwards, he heard a loud roar echo through the forest "like a wounded animal", fearing that the creatures in the Dark Aether were forming an army.

A Crooked House[]

"There was a crooked man, and he went a crooked mile. He found a crooked sixpence against a crooked stile. He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse. And they all lived together in a little crooked house. There was a woman, that I met. Her gait was far from crooked. She told me never to lose faith. In spite of how I looked. She told me that I was not worthless. The German accent threw me off. But her words inspired me nonetheless. I will - we will - fix this crooked house."
— Pyotr

As time passed, Pyotr began to fear that he was losing himself. He could no longer tell how much time had passed, and had gone so long without any orders, or any purpose. He had seen soldiers in an army, one that he recognized but wished he would never see again - fearing for his life. But his attitude soon changed when he met a strange woman with a German accent. She told him not to lose faith, and that despite how he looked, he was not worthless. Her words inspired Pyotr, changing his perspective.

Endless Cycle[]

Despite his new outlook on life, Pyotr began to further lose track of time as well as his memory of life before entering the Dark Aether. He stated that the Dark Aether had changed since his arrival, as it had become unsustainable and that "many now bow before one" - The Forsaken. Those like Pyotr, who do not pledge their loyalties to the Forsaken, hide in the shadows. Some try to escape, but either fail or become disfigured, fiery demons upon their arrival. Pyotr himself would end up escaping the Dark Aether through use of a strange mechanical box that moved between worlds. When entering, he still changed, but not into a fiery demon. Soldiers would help free him from the box, and in return he would provide aid in their battles to repay them. Pyotr would not stay for long though, as the Forsaken would find him and drag him back to the Dark Aether personally. But Pyotr would escape again, dooming him to repeat an endless cycle of escape and imprisonment.
