The R.A.P.S. (Robotic Anti-Personnel Sentry) is an enemy robotic vehicle used by the NRC in Campaign and a Scorestreak requiring 1275 points that is featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops III.

Overview

It acts as an autonomous vehicular robotic that specializes in very short range combat, having it an easy target for careful players with ranged weapons. It rushes towards its enemy and then explodes, which sends sharp shrapnel in different positions around it. In Campaign, the Player can hack one and use it against the enemy. Over two million have been produced since it was introduced in 2047. Weighing in at half a ton, it is one meter in height and length and an eighth of a meter in width. They are used by the CDP.

Campaign

The NRC use it as a robotic vehicle against the Player and Jacob Hendricks and the Egyptian army while the protagonists try to hunt down and kill all of John Talyor's team after killing the staff at the abandoned Coalescence Corporation facility in Singapore. During the battle against Taylor, the enemy Mothership will send in multiple R.A.P.S to deal with the Player, but are destroyed and Taylor gets defeated, right before his death by the hands of Hendricks. After killing Hendricks, the Player commits suicide to rid their DNI of Corvus and ends up in a simulated world controlled by him, where he sends several R.A.P.S. to attack the Player and Taylor right before beating the simulation and purging their DNI.

Multiplayer

It appears as a Scorestreak that can be unlocked for 1275 points. When activated, a ship will arrive and drop off multiple R.A.P.S. that will chase down enemy players and will explode when close enough to them, releasing its shrapnel.

Zombies

It also appears in the Zombies maps Shadows of Evil and Dead Ops Arcade 2: Cyber's Avengening. In Shadows of Evil, they have their own special rounds similar to the Hellhound and Parasite rounds, including the Max Ammo power-up being dropped once the last one is killed. They have a different appearance to the ones in Campaign and Multiplayer, having a more flesh-like look. In Dead Ops Arcade 2: Cyber's Avengening, they appear as a power-up the player can use against the zombies.

Trivia

  • There are two Campaign-styled R.A.P.S. shown on a Calling Card titled "Roll Out."
  • There is an accolade in Rise and Fall titled "Epic R.A.P.S Battle." This is possibly a reference based off of the popular series of rap battle videos on Youtube.
  • Within the Official Strategy Guide, the R.A.P.S. in zombies are referred to as Insanity Elementals.
  • Their appearance is extremely similar to the 'Shredders' from the 2012 film Battleship albeit smaller.
