"Observatory straddling a volcano rim in Hawaii. Fast gameplay with dynamic choke points."
— Advanced Warfare In-game Description

Recovery is a multiplayer map featured in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. It takes place at an observatory overlooking an active volcano as a game changing dynamic feature on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Recovery appears in Exo Survival as a Tier 3 map.

Overview[]

Recovery is a very unique map which, as stated above, takes place at an observatory on a volcano that is due to erupt over the course of the game. When it does, the camera shakes to serve as a visual cue; which is also indicated by the emission of sulfuric gasses on the outer side of the map.

The map has two halves. The match begins on the northeastern side of the map (see minimap above). When the dynamic event occurs, it'll cover this part of the map with gas and rocks leading players to evacuate and go to the second part of the map where two large gates will be opened. Once the gates are closed, the remaining players who haven't escaped will die momentarily.

The first side of the map takes place in the abandoned observatory and it possesses a number of chokepoints and Exo Jump opportunities. This sector is very compact and narrow with tight corridors that lends to fast-paced gameplay. When the eruption event concludes, the second part of the map that players are forced into is significantly more wide open with a number of easily accessible high-elevation points that can be utilized and lead to long range firefights. The second sector is located outside of the observatory and volcano. There are two helipads as well as catwalks that connect the buildings to each other.

Dynamics[]

  • An event takes place where the volcano erupts and forces players to migrate to the other closed side of the map. A siren is heard approximately one minute before the eruption occurs, as well as signs leading to the two doors that lead to the safe side. Once the event occurs, the doors are closed, forcing the remaining gameplay into this area. Failure to make it to the other area in time results in volcanic gas engulfing the map and asphyxiating any remaining players.
  • Rocks will fly into the map during the eruption, killing players on impact.

Trivia[]

  • If the player is on the safe side of the map with the city, along the shoreline, the player can see a large pink structure along the beach. This is the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, a luxury hotel on Waikiki Beach.
