"The time has come to join Doctor Monty in The House, where an ancient evil threatens the survival of our heroes' immortal souls..."
— Mission Briefing

Revelations is the twenty-fourth Zombies map and the final map featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops III. The map takes place within Agartha after the release of the Shadowman from the Summoning Key. In contrast to other maps, the cosmic appearance of Revelations is distinct from other previous maps. The map features recurring gameplay elements such as the Guard of Fafnir and the Ragnarok DG-4s, but introduced new features such as the Corruption Engines and a new type of enemy, the Fury. Furthermore, fragments of past maps such as Shangri-La and Origins feature as structural components of the map.

The Primis crew return as the playable characters. Enemies such as the Panzersoldat, the Parasites and the Spiders also return.

It was released on September 6th 2016 for the PlayStation 4 and then later released on October 6th 2016 for the Xbox One and PC as part of the Salvation map pack. This was also accessible to Black Ops III Season Pass holders.

Overview[]

Upon Primis Richtofen summoning the souls of Ultimis Dempsey, Nikolai and Takeo in Gorod Krovi, they are transported into "The House". Just before they arrive, Maxis instructs the children to 'put the toys away' and ensure that 'the windows are locked before [they] come down to the basement'. As each of the souls arrive in "The House", Monty transforms each member of Ultimis into their younger self as a means to restore their innocence.

Upon the arrival of Primis, they bring the Summoning Key along with them, which Maxis is mesmerized by. Primis Richtofen and Maxis destroy the teleporter to prevent any further corruption of the universe. Later, Maxis begins hearing the voice of the Shadowman and is lured down to the basement where the Summoning Key is located. Maxis accidentally released the Shadowman, which trapped him inside the Key. As a consequence, he releases the Apothicons from the Dark Aether and corrupts Monty's 'perfect world'. Primis fights alongside Monty to banish the Apothicons and defeat the Shadowman once and for all.

Rooms[]

"The House" (starting room)[]

This is where the player(s) will begin. It is set within Agartha. The area is spacious with plenty of room for escape opportunities and area to run, but quite linear in the sense that the player(s) can generally move in one direction. The door to the left of the player(s) cost 500 points to open which lead to Origins on the left and Shangri-La on the right for 750 points. There are five spawn locations for the zombies.

  • Corruption Engine - 500 points
  • Mystery Box spawn adjacent to the alleyway on the left.

Apothicon[]

Apothicon Stomach BO3

Linear perspective inside the Apothicon.

Inside the Apothicon has a drastic change from the cosmic appearance of the other areas in Revelations. A more visceral biological demeanour is present. The Pack-a-Punch can be accessed by shooting the yellow tubes on either side of the sac. Zombies inside the Apothicon have a more skeletal and decayed appearance than their normal counterparts. A single Parasite will always be present in the Apothicon, and will respawn shortly after a player kills it; it does not count toward progress on any round. If a player stays in the Apothicon for a long period of time a Panzersoldat or Margwa will eventually spawn inside. This is also the only area of the map that spiders will spawn in, which happens every 3-5 rounds.

Just to the right of the Pack-a-Punch are the exits to, from left to right, Mob of the Dead, Verrückt, Der Eisendrache, and spawn.

Fragments of Other Maps[]

Nacht der Untoten[]

The building acts as a central hub for the player(s) with multiple portals leading to "The House", Der Eisendrache, Mob of the Dead and Verrückt areas of the map. The debris leading to the upstairs of the building costs 750 points. Important elements of gameplay are located here including the crafting table for the Guard of Fafnir and the Juggernog machine, as well as the route to the Pack-a-Punch machine. After all four Corruption Engines have been activated, a panel to the right of Juggernog will light up and buzz when the giant Apothicon flies by; this panel must be activated while flashing to trap the Apothicon and allow for access to the Pack-a-Punch machine.

In comparison to the original map, there are more escape routes for the player(s) to take advantage of, including broken down walls and a more decrepit appearance of the building.

Origins[]

Trenches[]

On the jump pad from spawn to Origins, the player(s) will enter a fractured piece of the spawn room of Origins, which will lead out to a different version of the Generator 3 route. There is a lower and an upper trench. The lower trench contains a KRM-262 wallbuy as well as a door leading towards Generator 3 which costs 750 points. This will open the door on the upper trench as well and vice versa. The upper trench contains a Pharo wallbuy just before the door.

Generator 3/The Mound[]

Upon buying the door to Generator 3, the player(s) can find the Double Tap machine next to the barricade near the generator. A VMP wallbuy can be found where the robot would normally step on. The Vesper wallbuy can be found on the connecting path at the top of the generator and the impact crater. The debris leading to the Mound costs 1000 points. Underneath the Mound, there will be a KN-44 wallbuy in the tunnel on the far left. This will eventually lead to the Mob of the Dead area. Weapons Available:

Perk Machines:

Other:

Mob of the Dead (Cafeteria)[]

There is boarded up debris along the walkways which cost 250 points; these act as a shortcut for the player to quickly escape. Once the Corruption Engine has been activated, the door leading towards Origins will open. Upstairs are two entrances leading to the infirmary, and through the infirmary is a tunnel leading up to the top of the mound in Origins.

Upstairs[]

Similarly to Origins, Verrückt has a decrepit appearance with walls being torn down and elements of Zetsubou no Shima being present upstairs. Unlike the actual map, certain areas that were not previously accessible are now open (such as the walkway linking the power room to the kitchen and the area where the growth pods from Zetsubou no Shima are located).

Downstairs[]

There is debris leading out to the Corruption Engine which costs 1250 points; this also clears the debris by the adjacent staircase. This section of the map remains virtually unchanged in terms of layout except for the door leading to the corruption engine and the entrance from the Kino der Toten jump pad.

Kino der Toten (Theater)[]

The theater in Kino der Toten resembles that of the original map, but with some important changes. It is possible to go upstairs in multiple places on either the left or right sides, which lead to the jump pad going to Verrückt, to Der Eisendrache, and to the room where the Pack-a-Punch machine would be in the original map; in Revelations, this room now contains the Widow's Wine machine. A doorway downstairs to the left of the Bowie Knife wallbuy will lead the player back to Der Eisendrache as well. The stage has several mannequins on it which is where the player(s) acquire special masks unlocked by completing certain challenges.

Shangri-La (Spawn Area)[]

Shangri-La remains structurally intact in comparison to the other areas of the map. There are five windows where the zombies can enter from. Upon entering, the L-CAR 9 can be purchased from the right side of the area, as well as the KRM-262 wallbuy located to the left as soon as the player(s) enter from the jump pad. There is debris leading towards the Der Eisendrache area which costs 750 points.

Easter Eggs[]

Main Quest[]

Main article: For The Good Of All
  • The primary Easter Egg quest of the map, For The Good Of All, involves opening the Summoning Key and "completing the cycle". If all previous Easter Eggs were completed, then doing so will complete the A Better Tomorrow quest.

Musical Easter Egg[]

  • A new Easter Egg song called The Gift can be activated by finding 3 teddy bears on the map.
    • One is at the entrance to Mob of the Dead from the mound, sitting on a chair to the left of a mysterious surgery patient.
    • The next location is in the theater of Kino der Toten, sitting on a chair in front of the podium.
    • The final location is in the Verrückt portion of the map, it is on a chair at the beginning of the hallway leading to the jump pad.

Other Easter Eggs[]

  • Several wearable items that offer various effects to assist in combat can be unlocked through hidden challenges: see Revelations (map)/Hats and Helmets.
  • The table in Nacht der Untoten downstairs can be unlocked to give weapons to other players or store a weapon for later use in solo, as well as making the M1927 available as a wallbuy. This Easter Egg can be started by first activating Anti-Gravity in Der Eisendrache, and then picking up a piece of pink chalk sitting atop a narrow carved pillar located in the hallway in the Undercroft between the VMP wallbuy and the Pyramid. It is directly to the left of the possible Guard of Fafnir piece location along this same wall, and slightly higher up.
    • After acquiring the chalk, the player can hold the use button on various chalk writings around the map to erase and place them in new locations. The Easter Egg is completed when six chalk writings have been put in their correct places. Holding the Interact button on and moving the chalk drawings in the following specific order:
      • In Der Eisendrache, on the wall under where the Undercroft Dragon was in the original map.
      • In Verrückt, upstairs in the room with the electric trap, on the floor in front of the Mystery Box spawn.
      • In Nacht der Untoten, on the wall in the of the middle curved staircase that leads directly to Juggernog.
      • Also in Nacht der Untoten, the straight staircase next to the portal to Mob of the Dead (there is no actual writing on this wall to erase, simply facing the wall while on the stairs and holding use will put the proper writing down).
      • In Mob of the Dead on the catwalks, on the lower part of the wall next to the left entrance leading to the Infirmary.
      • In Kino der Toten, on the wall behind the teleporter and above a mannequin on the left side of the stage.
      • Back in Mob of the Dead, in the same place by the infirmary. If done correctly, a chiming audio cue will play, signaling completion. The M1927 wallbuy will now be located in Der Eisendrache, on the wall under where the Undercroft Dragon was in the original map, and the table in Nacht der Untoten will now be available for use.
  • If at least one player in the lobby completed A Better Tomorrow, a "spark" can be collected in the starting room on the broken truck's headlight. During the Main Easter Egg of Revelations, when the player is able to use the Teleporter to retrieve the Kronorium, the "spark" can be placed on the wooden crate with a "?" drawn in white chalk in Samantha's room. Once they return, the Path of Sorrows can be found as a wall-buy weapon on top of the big staircase in Shangri-La for 500 Points, and every weapon bought off the wall or from the Mystery Box are automatically Pack-a-Punched. It is a one hit melee until Round 42.
    • Be careful not to be damaged at all while carrying the "spark", or it will be lost the rest of the game. It is advised not to pick it up until the Teleporter is available.

Monty: Okay, uh... let's recap a bit, shall we?

A view of a countryside can be seen before the view goes towards a house.

Monty: This was meant to be a new start, really, a perfect world, free from all the evil that had corrupted each and every corner of the known and unknown universe.

The camera goes up a flight of stairs and down a hall.

Monty: It was going to be a place of safety for the kids, the little yous... You - little... well, so far, so good.

Monty opens a door, revealing Fluffy, Samantha, Eddie and three other children resembling "Tank" Dempsey, Nikolai Belinski, Takeo Masaki before an airhorn blares. The kids stop playing with their toys and look around before the screen goes black.

Monty: But things started to go wrong soon after you arrived.

Maxis can be seen facing a teleporter as Primis arrives.

Monty: Now, I can understand your initial shock coming face-to-face with Maxis, especially after so long.

Richtofen hugs Maxis as the others look around the room. Richtofen then reveals the Summoning Key to Maxis, who looks at the Summoning Key with a shocking look as he begins to hear voices before shaking his head as Richtofen puts the Key away.

Monty: But you did the right thing. You followed the plan. You brought the Summoning Key here, and you destroyed that bloody machine once and for all.

Maxis then hands Richtofen an axe as the two then dismantle the MTD. The screen goes black.

Monty: Thing is... Maxis went and ballsed everything up.

Maxis can be seen asleep within a chair as he begins to hear voices until he wakes up.

Mysterious Voice: Please... you must help me.

The door to the basement of the house opens as Maxis heads downstairs.

Monty: He heard voices, you see. Calling to him.

Maxis walks over to the Summoning Key, which is now shaking and glowing violently as he slowly reaches for it.

Mysterious Voice: Only together... can we prevent the destruction of your world.

The Summoning Key then flies into Maxis' hand. Suddenly, he is forced to activate the Summoning Key as he is preserved within it, with the Summoning Key being caught by the now physically released Shadowman.

Monty: It wasn't REALLY his fault, you know he hasn't got his soul yet, all I got was a brain. Anyway, the KEY thing - as in the thing that is key - is that Maxis fiddled around with the Summoning-thingamajig and accidentally released an even bigger bastard.

The Shadowman flies through the hall before exiting the house.

Monty: Someone even I didn't know was in there - The Shadowman.

The camera views his face as he then breaks a part of the porch as he levitates to a nearby hill overlooking the valley.

Monty: The one and only - original - harbinger of doom.

The Shadowman then creates a massive rift in the sky, causing lots of destruction to everything as everything becomes broken. The remains of the entire area are seen as a set of floating islands appearing out of thin air. A view of the Shadowman now in his Apothicon form then turns back as the camera zooms into a window, where Primis and Monty are.

Monty: So, I am going to be absolutely truthful with you. Things have gone way too far out of control. This isn't any vague "woo-hoo-hoo" evil, we are talking about the Apothicons.

Several Apothicon beasts are seen floating in an unknown space, entering and exiting a massive blue glowing sphere. One of the beasts then spit a blue meteor into a portal.

Monty: The most powerful and evil entities in all the existences that ever... existed. And now they're here in our perfect world.

A fractured view of Nacht der Untoten can be seen as zombies with red eyes close in on The House. Primis then steps outside as they ready their weapons.

Monty: I'm not going to sugarcoat things... It's a fucking shitshow.

Monty closes the door behind them as the shadows of the zombies approaching them can be seen behind them on the wall.

Transcript

Primis gets teleported to Samantha's room in the House. In the room, a Monkey Bomb, a rocket, a toy rabbit, a toy elephant and the Teddy Bear is seen in the middle of the room, circling around the Summoning Key before infusing with it. S.O.P.H.I.A. is seen at the back of the room.

Ludvig Maxis: Sophia...

S.O.P.H.I.A: Maxis...

Ludvig Maxis: You know what we must do, my dear.

S.O.P.H.I.A is then seen preserving the Summoning Key into her A.I. body.

S.O.P.H.I.A: Yes, my love.

Ludvig Maxis: We will do it together. As one we are, now and forever.

The screen fades to black. S.O.P.H.I.A is seen zipping into the giant blue Apothicon Sun, followed by the Summoning Key. The Apothicon-infested world now ceases to exist and shows a scene in space. Screen fades to black once again and a sunrise can be seen.

Monty: With the evil vanquished, I can start making it all nice again. No undead, no Apothicons, no Shadowman. All of it gone, forever, but, here's the funny thing. You snowflakes shouldn't even still be here.

The scene changes to Primis, as Dempsey looks down at one of his blood vials, with it being empty.

Monty: You should be fading out of existence by now. Those blood vials...

Dempsey and Richtofen share a glance at each other.

Richtofen: I was wondering when you would bring this up.

Monty: They're from realities we already closed off. They shouldn't be here, they CAN'T be here!

Monty walks up to Richtofen as he grabs his empty blood vial.

Monty: Such a paradox means you're putting my perfect world at risk.

Richtofen takes a step back from Monty.

Monty: You guys and your bloody free will. What to do? WHAT TO DO? Well, you certainly can't stay here.

Nikolai and Takeo nod at each other and are about to draw their weapons when Richtofen interrupts.

Richtofen: You could send us somewhere else, somewhere we've never been.

Monty: Mhm, I suppose I could make a little corner somewhere in history. A place where I can dump some of the other shit that I have left over, or I just wipe you from existence.

Primis starts to fade away from existence.

Monty: Ooh, hang on! Actually, that all works out perfectly!

The screen fades to white then to a close-up on Dempsey. The screen pans back to show Dempsey, Richtofen, Takeo and Nikolai standing on a mount, each wielding an original elemental staff and wearing crusader armor. A crowd is seen cheering for them as the four raises their staffs as conquering heroes. The screen transitions into the "Primis" image from Origins. The image burns and the words "THE END" appear.

Trivia[]

  • The map features many different aspects of previous maps, such as Mob of the Dead and Origins.
    • The maps that make up the various locations in Revelations are Origins, Mob of the Dead, Kino der Toten, Der Eisendrache, Shangri-La, Verrückt, and Nacht der Untoten.
      • Call of the Dead and "Five" are referenced in Radio Messages.
      • The test tubes found in the bunker of Zetsubou No Shima can be seen when entering the Verrückt portion of the map.
      • The round change music is synonymous with where the player's located. For example, if the player is in the Origins trenches, they will hear the Origins round changing theme; if they were in Nacht der Untoten, they would hear the original round changing theme, and so on. This is also the case for when the player dies, as the Game Over music is synonymous with the location the player died in.
        • The round change music in the Verrückt, Kino der Toten, and Shangri-La sections seems to have changed; Instead of using the original round change music, each map gets its own unique music. For example, in Kino der Toten, as the round ends, it reuses the one in Buried, and as the round starts, it reuses the theme used in The Giant and Der Eisendrache with a sound effect of a film projector.
  • Unlike in previous maps, all of the icons relating to the previous Easter Eggs (the Summoning Key for Apocalypse Averted, and the Gateworms for Paradoxical Prologue, My Brother's Keeper, Seeds of Doubt, and Love and War) will appear on the map selection screen.
  • The zombie's eye colors are red, much like in Mob of the Dead and Gorod Krovi.
  • According to some audio quotes, the GKZ-45 Mk3 was originally supposed to be in the map.[1]
  • Files containing Demonic Announcer lines for Doctor Monty and the Shadowman remain in the files for Revelations.[2]
    • Also found in the video as well as one of the Revelations trailers was the Rocket Shield from Shadows of Evil and Der Eisendrache, but it was replaced with the Guard of Fafnir.
  • "This door is opened elsewhere" is a reference to Quake's locked doors, where a player would have to trigger an event somewhere else to open the door.
  • This is the only map where flying and teleportation is the only way to get to other areas of the map.
  • The map is codenamed zm_genesis. Genesis is the first book in the Bible, while Revelation is the final book of the (Christian) Bible.
