"GET HIM OFF ME!"
— Ryan, about to be engulfed in flames

Pfc. Ryan is a US Marine Raider under the command of Sgt. Sullivan during World War II. During a raid on Makin, he is grabbed by a burning Japanese soldier. Just like Pvt. Roycewicz in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Pfc. C. Miller, the player, has the choice to save him or let him die.

In order to save Ryan, Miller needs to kill the burning Japanese soldier before he grabs onto Ryan. If Miller does not save him, Ryan will burn to death. If he is saved, he may get killed while fighting the Japanese with the Marine Raiders. If he survives the part of the mission where the Raiders take out the first MG, Ryan will mount the MG and will not be seen for the rest of the mission.

Achievement/Trophy[]

Saved Private Ryan (10 Gamerscore/ Bronze Trophy Bronze Trophy PS3 icon) - Save Pvt. Ryan before he burns to death.

Trivia[]

  • Even if the player is able to kill the Japanese soldier immediately, Ryan will still go through his scripted struggle.
  • Sometimes, even when the player saves him, Roebuck will say "Dammit, we're too late," and after patting out any flames, Ryan will just fall over and die.
  • The player can pick-up his BAR if he dies.
