The SATO Navy is the naval arm of SATO responsible for space exploration. During the events of the UNSA-SDF War, the SATO Navy played a vital role in eliminating the bulk of the SDF's military, at the cost of the total loss of all its own naval vessels. Alongside the SDF Navy, they are the only two factions capable of traveling throughout the Solar System via FTL.
History[]
Formed following the founding of SATO and the UNSA, the SATO Navy played a major role during the Secession War against the SDF. Despite their best efforts, the UNSA lost control of the Martian cluster, and were forced to sign the Charon Accords. The subsequent demobilisation of the SATO military affected the Navy severely, leaving just 21 FTL-capable vessels available for combat at the time of the Geneva attack.
Geneva Attack[]
Exploiting the fact that the entire SATO fleet was in Geneva during Fleet Week, the SDF activated its sleeper cell within the AATIS tower; Commander Akeel Min Riah to hijack the air defense network and eliminate the fleet. The initial attack by both the AATIS and SDF fleet quickly destroyed 10 vessels, as the remaining 11 vessels attempted to counter the SDF fleet. Having chased and eliminated the remaining SDF vessels in low-Earth orbit, the surviving vessels were quickly ambushed by the Olympus Mons. Following the end of the battle, 19 of the 21 vessels were destroyed, leaving only the unarmed carrier Retribution and destroyer Tigris as the only surviving vessels for the duration of the war.
The Geneva attack coincided with a massive SDF offensive throughout the Solar System, resulting in the loss of all UNSA territories barring the Earth cluster. With the strategically vital Luna Gateway Port under siege by SDF forces, the two surviving vessels were ordered to retake the port to allow for SATO to rebuild their fleet. The successful interception of data from the SDS Ares Vallis by SCAR forces allowed the SATO Navy to begin conducting hit-and-run operations against SDF task forces positioned throughout the Solar System.
Ship Assault Operations[]
With the Retribution taking the lead, the two surviving vessels of the SATO Navy quickly dismantled the SDF military throughout the Solar System. The successful execution of Operation Deep Execute eliminated three major figures within SDF's High Command, and crippled the SDF's ability to wage further operations against the UNSA. Over the course of May 7th, the Retribution eliminated vast numbers of the SDF's hierarchy, as key commanders and Ace Pilots were killed in the subsequent operations.
Destruction of Tigris[]
Following the near-total elimination of SDF forces throughout the Solar System, the Retribution was tasked with locating the off-course asteroid Vesta 3. As the asteroid held vital materials required for the construction of SATO vessels, the Retribution's ground forces was tasked by STRATCOM to discover its sudden disappearance. Concurrently, the Tigris was lured into a trap by the Olympus Mons and destroyed. The destruction of the Tigris left the Retribution as the only SATO naval vessel active in the Solar System.
Operation Black Flag[]
With little options left, acting Captain Nick Reyes formulated a plan with the Retribution's command staff, in coordination with STRATCOM. Seeking to lure the SDF fleet back to Earth and utilize the AATIS defense network, SATO forces attempted to use captured sleeper agent Commander Riah as bait. Under orders from Reyes, the Retribution was temporarily taken out of action for repairs. Despite SATO's best efforts, the operation completely collapsed with the destruction of the AATIS defence network and the arrival of the Olympus Mons and the SDF fleet. Out of desperation following the destruction of STRATCOM, the Retribution was ordered to execute an extremely risky in-atmosphere FTL jump, crippling the entirety of the SDF fleet in Geneva. A SATO infiltration team seized control of the Mons as the Retribution eliminated the SDF fleet.
Operation Blood Water[]
As the hijacked Olympus Mons initiated a frontal assault on the Tharsis Shipyard, the Retribution was ordered to jump into the Martian system following the destruction of the Mons' weapon system. With the Mons on a collision course for the shipyard, attacks from SDF naval forces crippled the Retribution, resulting in an accidental collision between the two vessels. Pulled into the Martian gravity well, both ships suffered crash-landings that initially scattered the Retribution crew. Survivors led by Captain Reyes mounted a final desperate ground assault against the Tharsis Shipyard. Heavy resistance from SDF forces led to the deaths of nearly the entirety of the Retribution's crew. However, a small team successfully infiltrated the orbital shipyard and hijacked an SDF destroyer resulting in the destruction of the shipyard and its surrounding naval vessels.
Post-war[]
The successful efforts of the Retribution and its crew resulted in the destruction of both the SDF's vital shipyards and its major fleets. With both sides lacking FTL naval vessels, the war ended in a stalemate. However, the recovery of vital resource hubs by SATO forces allowed the SATO Navy to seize the initiative in the aftermath of the conflict, as the SDF lacked the resources and ability to reconstitute its devastated military.
