Sanctuary (originally a cut map named Meteora[1]) is a multiplayer and Survival Mode map that was released along with Foundation in Content Pack 4 for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, April 10, 2012 for the Xbox Live Elite Community, and on May 10, 2012 for the PlayStation Network and PC. Based on the Call of Duty Elite description, it takes place in a monastery in Greece.

The cut original version of Sanctuary, Meteora, appears in Call of Duty Online.

Survival Mode

In Survival Mode, the player(s) start with a Model 1887, a Five Seven, a Self Revive, 250 Armor and Extreme Conditioning, but no Grenades or Flashbangs. The hostiles include Bomb Squads, Suicide Bombers, Little Birds, and Juggernauts.

  • If the player goes to any of the four grassy patches near the middle of the map in the cemetery, they can hear ghostly voices saying "Hehe, look at me, daddy! Hehe!", "Don't get too close to the road, sweetie", "Hehehehehe.", and "Sarah, don't go too far!" The voices are sound clips taken from "Davis Family Vacation."[2]
  • In the church, behind a red curtain, a teddy bear can be found sitting on a chair.
  • This map was originally planned for the base game and called "Meteora", after the real monasteries in Greece, but it was cut before Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's release.
  • If the player goes in to Spectator Mode, Theater Mode or uses a Recon Drone and to the entrance near the Church, they can hear Monks singing in the rooms.
  • There's a dead donkey under near the bridge.
