"Full-auto submachine gun. Superior handling with fast fire rate and a smaller ammo pool."
— In-game description

The Saug 9mm (stylized SAUG) is a submachine gun featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. It was developed in South Africa. It also has an MKII variant along with a Mastercraft variant.

Multiplayer[]

The Saug 9mm is a lightweight SMG that boasts swift handling characteristics. Its time-to-kill is about average for the submachine gun category, enabling it to edge out most assault rifles in close quarters with sufficient accuracy. Moderate recoil coupled with a higher rate of fire allow the Saug to win most engagements in close quarters.

However, beyond close to medium range, the Saug's recoil and low damage profile can make long-range engagements extremely difficult. As such, attachments like the Grip and Stock can assist in improving stability beyond CQB combat. The Suppressor can also be equipped for a stealthier, flank-focused playstyle in comparison to other weapons in the SMG category.

Optics such as the Reflex or ELO may be chosen over the default iron sights, however this is entirely up to personal preference. The Saug also has Dual Wield, an Operator Mod that allows you to wield the weapon in both hands for a damage boost.

Zombies[]

The Saug 9mm appears in the Zombies maps Voyage of Despair, IX, Blood of the Dead, Classified, Dead of the Night, Ancient Evil, Alpha Omega and Tag der Toten where it's available on the wall for 750 points and as a weapon within the Mystery Box for 950 points, or be selected as a starting weapon once unlocked and equipped in the player's loadout.

When upgraded via Pack-a-Punch Machine, it becomes the Stellar 92 with the magazine size increased to 50 rounds and its ammo reserve increased to 350.

Attachments[]

The Saug 9mm has a targeted set of attachments, focused on improving overall stability and handling speed. The Saug also has Dual Wield, an Operator Mod that increases the weapon's overall damage output.

Trivia[]

  • Despite the weapon being chambered in 9mm, "40 cal" is written above the pistol grip.
  • The Pack-a-Punch name for the Saug, the Stellar 92, is an easter egg referencing Estelle Tigani. She was a producer on the map IX and was able to name some of the upgraded weapons.[1]
  • In concepts for the Saug, the words "South African Ugly Gun" can be seen on the side of the weapon.
  • The Saug 9mm reappeared as an icon for Dual Wield in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War at launch, however it was quickly changed.
