Selma Greene is a character featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Zombies. Greene is the de facto commander of Operation Deadbolt.

Overview[]

Early life and career[]

Not much is known about Greene's life and career prior to her becoming commander of Operation Deadbolt. It is known that she has a friendly relationship with CIA Station Chief Kate Laswell.

Operation Deadbolt[]

The Beginning[]

In 2021, Greene was picked to lead Operation Deadbolt, a response plan by the CIA that was formed overnight to combat the rising undead threat in Zaravan, Urzikstan, after a widespread infection was caused by the terrorist Victor Zakhaev. A roster was quickly formed, among them including Task Force 141 member Johnny "Soap" MacTavish and the mysterious Sergei Ravenov, who was brought on as a specialist for having expertise with similar incursions. Greene questioned Laswell on the inclusion of Ravenov, but was assured that he can be trusted despite his lack of background information.

Throughout the operation, Greene guided members of Deadbolt, including a strike team of elite Operators, to conduct missions in the Zaravan exclusion zone, making sure to carry out their motto: "Nothing gets in, nothing gets out". Shortly after establishing their foothold, the strike team picked up encrypted tablets, containing messages from one Doctor Ava Jansen, who wished to be exfiltrated from Zaravan in order to escape Zakhaev. Having learned that Jansen is a physicist with extensive knowledge on Aetherium, Greene authorized the strike team to perform a rescue operation, saving Jansen from the mercenary group Terminus Outcomes, who was hired by Zakhaev to maintain control in Zaravan.

Making Progress[]

After rescuing Jansen, Greene, alongside Soap and Ravenov, interrogated her and learned that she was previously employed by Zakhaev, but defected after realizing his true nature as a terrorist, and that he was planning to weaponize Aetherium. Though doubtful, Greene agreed to let Jansen lend her expertise to Deadbolt. She assigned the strike team with helping Jansen build an Aetherium Neutralizer, which would be able to destabilize Aetherium crystals within a radius. The first test was a success, though it was only done on raw crystals, while further upgrades would be required to make it work on refined crystals. Jansen suggested acquiring research data from late Requiem scientist Oskar Strauss, which was in Zakhaev's possession at the time. The strike team conducted a raid on a Terminus stronghold and killed its commander, "Legacy" Baranov, who was safeguarding Strauss's research data.

Later, having allowed Jansen to upgrade her Neutralizer, Greene authorized the strike team to raid Zakhaev's Aetherium-refining plant, in order to deploy the Neutralizer. The operation was nearly thwarted by the appearance of an Aether Worm, Orcus, but Jansen was able to activate the Neutralizer with the help of the strike team. The Neutralizer tore a dimensional rift, allowing an entity from the Dark Aether dimension to make contact with Jansen. Afterwards, the strike team, Ravenov and Jansen exfiltrated, though there were reports of new anomalies appearing in the center of the exclusion zone.

Internal Conflicts[]

As the operation continued, Greene found herself dealing with more dilemma, as Deadbolt convoys were getting attacked due to a possible communications leak. Having already been wary of Ravenov due to his redacted history, Greene confronted him and demanded he tell her the truth. Thanks to Soap mediating the situation, Greene was able to calm down, though she affirmed that she would get answers from Ravenov before the situation was over.

Eventually, Soap organized a meet for Greene and Ravenov to be able to put aside their differences and come to a peaceful resolution. Greene was adamant that she needed to be able to trust Ravenov, while the latter insisted that his truth could put them at danger, a risk that Greene noted she was willing to take. Ravenov relented and agreed to disclose his past to both Green and Soap, though he requested that the conversation not be recorded.
