- For the power-up in the Zombies mode of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, see Shades (Zombies).
Shades is a Tier 2 perk in Call of Duty: World at War that reduces the effects of signal flares. This is useful in countering enemies who think the player is temporarily blinded, as they generally won't be as cautious when attempting to kill them. This perk is useful for defending in Search and Destroy game mode matches. It is unlocked at level 32. Shades are absent from the Wii version of Call of Duty: World at War due to the absence of signal flares.
It cuts the pink-to-white hue created whilst within a five meter proximity of a signal flare, though it is not as effective against flares as Gas Mask is against Tabun Gas and does not allow the player to retain their minimap while within the flare's range.
If the player has Shades equipped, the player model will reflect that, with sunglasses literally on the player model to protect it from the intensity of signal flares. Each faction has different types of shades with this perk (excluding the Marine Raiders and the Red Army, which use the same type of sunglasses).

Trivia[]
- This is considered one of the least-used perks in Call of Duty: World at War, due to the fact that it competes with more useful Tier 2 perks such as Stopping Power and Juggernaut.
- The Red Army and Marine Raiders' glasses model are used by Jason Hudson in Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
