Slingshots are used in "Vorkuta" in the Call of Duty: Black Ops campaign to launch improvised incendiary devices at guard emplacements. They function similarly to a Grenade Launcher and use the same aiming reticule. If only three shots are used to destroy the three towers, a trophy/achievement will be unlocked called "Slingshot Kid."

Trivia

  • Mason could have made these, as Reznov says, "See how Mason's ingenuity can turn junk into weapons!"
  • It also appears that the object they are using to fling at the guard towers are Molotov Cocktails. As seen by the flame and bottle that the player can briefly see after they let go of the slingshot. The size of the explosions, however, indicate that Mason may have added something more explosive to the mixture, such as gelignite.
  • If the player does not pull the slingshot back far enough to make the vibration start and then lets go, it will not fire and one of the prisoners will say "You need to pull it all the way."
  • The Slingshot may be a tribute to the movie "The Last Castle". During the movie's prison riot, slingshots were used to launch improvised explosives at the guard towers.
  • On the Wii version, it is replaced with a Crossbow.
  • On the Wii version it seems to be shooting flaming flash lights and there are 4 targets.
  • If Mason fires the slingshot at the ground, where all the escaping prisoners can be seen, and kills enough of the prisoners the mission ends and the player must restart from the checkpoint. This can be useful if the player wants the trophy/achievement "Slingshot Kid" (Destroy all three guard towers in three shots) because if they miss, they can try again quickly and easily.
  • An easy strategy for getting the "Slingshot Kid" achievement/trophy is to line the up reticule with the buildings behind each of the three targets, ensuring a hit. (The middle one is the slanted thing in the background, not really a "building")
