"Following the events of the Campaign, two private military contractors — SpecGru and KorTac — are founded as special forces for hire, capable of carrying out international tactical operations."
— Call of Duty Blog[1]

SpecGru is a private military contractor featured as a faction in the multiplayer of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III.

Background[]

Alongside their rivals KorTac, SpecGru was founded following the death of Hassan Zyani as special forces for hire to conduct various international operations. SpecGru and KorTac would frequently face off against each other at various locations around the world and amass new operators over time. At some point, SpecGru started operating within Al Mazrah and Ashika Island.

On June 8th, 2023, SpecGru launched an intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance mission called Operation: Red Light, Green Light to collect information regarding key points of interest within Vondel. Following the mass evacuation of Vondel's inhabitants, SpecGru deployed multiple fireteams into the city, including Victor Team comprised of Jesus "Chuy" Ordaz, Enzo Reyes, and Kleopatros "Kleo" Gavras. The fireteams met heavy ground resistance from Konni, and confirmed the presence of KorTac operator Nikto within the area before being forced to abort the mission.[2]

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II[]

As the only two multiplayer factions in Modern Warfare II, SpecGru and KorTac will always face off against each other. However, the SpecGru announcer for the match is dependent on the map being played.

"Baseplate to Sabre-1, secure the objectives. You're clear to engage all targets."
— UK Team Leader

The UK Team Leader (also known by the callsign Baseplate) is the commander of SpecGru's Sabre unit who serves as the announcer for the following maps:
