The Spectral Shield is a weapon available in the Zombies mode of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. It is available in Blood of the Dead. It is a new type of buildable Zombie Shield, and acts as a hybrid of both that, the Ballistic Shield, and the Afterlife mode from the original Mob of the Dead.

The Spectral Shield is crafted from three parts; a broken metal door, the Warden's Key, and spectral energy. Each part (with the exception of the key) has three different spawn locations around the map.

  • Spectral Essence - Can be found on an Afterlife switch either in the Library, outside of the Warden's Office, or by the staircase leading into the Shower room.
  • Metal Door - Can be found leaning on a wall in the Citadel Tunnels, by the doorway that once lead to the room containing the elevator, or by a repairable barrier in China Alley.
  • Warden's Key - Can be picked up after killing the Warden for the first time.

Once all three shield parts have been collected, the player can build the shield at a craftable bench either at the Docks, Cell Block 3rd Floor, or in the Traverse Tunnel connecting New Industries with the Power House.

The shield can be upgraded, increasing the available charges from 2 to 4, along with improving its durability. You must spin the box until the lock appears, then use the key to absorb it until it turns blue before throwing the Hell's Retriever at the lock. The warden should shout angrily, indicating that the shield has been upgraded into the Attuned Spectral Shield.

When held out, the player can press the trigger button, which will cause the Warden's Key in the player's right hand to absorb the souls of zombies. After absorbing enough souls, the player can use a "Spirit Blast" by aiming with the shield and pressing the trigger button. If the player simply aims with the shield, the player will enter a vision of the Afterlife, which is used several times throughout the main easter egg.
