Summit is a multiplayer map featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Overview

The map features snowy terrain, and was first seen in the multiplayer teaser released August 2010. Summit is based in the Ural Mountains. This map also seems to bear resemblance to the map "Sub Base" in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It's possible the singleplayer mission "WMD" is based off this map as some campaign levels are actually based off multiplayer maps, not vice versa.

Multiplayer

Summit is a narrow map with severe drops on all sides. It was the first ever Black Ops multiplayer map to be revealed, being shown in an early multiplayer trailer released by Treyarch which also featured Launch. The two teams that are available here are Black Ops and the Spetsnaz. Summit features plenty of variety when it comes to buildings and platforms. The interior of one large building in the middle is the most open area on the Summit map, with most of it made up of narrow gaps and pathways. It is a map with lots of small spaces for the player to hide in. Spawn trapping is very easy if the other team has the A flag.

Summit looks somewhat similar to Sub Base (Modern Warfare 2), in that it is a snowy environment with small spaces and narrow areas. The most notable difference is that Summit is at the "summit" of a mountain whereas Sub Base is at sea level.

Trivia

  • The player can indeed reach the cable car at the edge of the map, by making a sprinting jump and quickly tapping the climb/jump button again when right in front of the car. If you fail to do so, you will simply hit the step and fall to your death.
  • It is also possible to get on the tower near the cable car. Get on the control board in the center of the large main building (shaped like a "T"). Run and jump to the walkway opposite the control board, press the climb button as you near it. Once on, break the window and jump towards the tower. If you don't make it all the way on top but near the rail, your player has the ability to pull himself up (A, X, Space, the Wii jump button).
  • If you fall off the cliff, you will notice that you actually are on a very tall mountain, hence the name "Summit."thumb|300px|right
  • Any equipment planted in the cable car will be rendered useless (a bug with moving entities) and your teammate will have the ability to pickup your equipment regardless of what they have on their class. If they pick it up, however, it will not add to their inventory but will be removed from the map, essentially destroying it.
  • It is impossible to plant a tactical insertion inside the cable car.
  • On the west cliff, there is a sign near the edge warning players not to get too close.
  • When the Dogs killstreak reward is called in they will spawn on the helideck with a Hind on it.

Tips

  • you can control this map almost entirely by putting your team and claymores into the top room of the main building. this gives you utmost control of the map including the bigger room, the ground outside, all but one exit for each spawn, the only downside of this area is that it has 4 areas where you can enter that connect to it and you can easily flush out anyone in it with a few grenade launcher rounds and take it for yourself, the most suggested for equipment for this spot is a tactical insertion or a claymore
  • As shown in the video above, there is a place to camp. Actually, there are several. But the hardest to get to is the one outside of the central building. In the small maze of computers, there is one shaped like a T. You can climb up this. At the end of it (the end nearest to the wall), you must sprint and start the smashing the x button (Playstation 3) or the A button (Xbox). You will climb up and you will be able to run on a passage way leading to a window. There are two options. One, is to stay on the ledge and you can either crouch or go prone. The other is to break the glass, jump, and again, mash the jump button. You will climb up and you can snipe from the top of it, or there is a ladder and you can climb down to the second level. Be aware if you miss you will fall and die. The other is the hardest to get on in pretty much all of Black Ops Multiplayer. If you are Black Ops, you can go on the bridge that runs down to the big building in the center. There will be two extended guardrails, and there is a ski lift hanging right off the edge. Although it may seem easy to get on, it isn't. It works better if you have Lightweight Pro and Marathon Pro. Wait until the ski lift comes to you, and sprint as fast as you can and jump, and then mash the jump button as fast as you can. If you are lucky, you will grab hold and haul yourself up. Going prone is probably the best choice. Guns with a fast fire rate and equipped with a suppressor will get a fast kill while not revealing your position, but be aware the enemy that you kill will probably go after you and take the spot for himself.
  • There are many entrances to every area, so campers should be careful.
