For the submachine gun variant, see RAM-9.
For other uses, see TAR.

The TAR-21, referred to as Tavor within game files, is a bullpup assault rifle featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. It was cut from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2[]

Campaign[]

In the campaign, it is used heavily by the Russian military and Task Force 141. It is available in all missions involving Russian Ultranationalists and members of Task Force 141. In the campaign and Special Ops, this weapon is always seen with optics attached. It can be fitted with a regular Red Dot Sight, unlike in multiplayer, the MARS Sight, Holographic Sight, ACOG Scope and Thermal Scope.

Multiplayer[]

The TAR-21 is unlocked at level 20 in multiplayer.

At any range short of 37.5 meters, the TAR-21 will deal forty damage per bullet, needing three shots to kill. Damage decreases linearly until fifty meters. At any range past fifty meters, the TAR-21 will deal thirty damage per bullet, needing four shots to kill. The TAR-21 has a three shot kill range of 45 meters. The TAR-21 deals forty percent extra damage on a headshot, allowing for a two shot kill if both shots are headshots, and at long range, a single headshot ensures a three shot kill. The TAR-21 is a one shot kill at any range in Hardcore. The TAR-21 has medium penetration power.

The TAR-21's damage profile improves when using Stopping Power. At any range short of 37.5 meters, the TAR-21 will deal 56 damage per bullet, needing just two shots to kill. Damage decreases linearly until fifty meters. At any range past fifty meters, the TAR-21 will deal 42 damage per bullet, needing three shots to kill. Headshots will only be helpful at longer ranges, but a single headshot guarantees a two shot kill.

The TAR-21 fires fully automatically at a rate of 759 RPM.

The TAR-21 has recoil values of 65 to the left, 65 to the right, 60 upwards, and 35 downwards. The TAR-21 has a centerspeed of 1600.

The TAR-21 allows users to aim at 95% of the base movement speed, or strafe at 38% of the base movement speed. The TAR-21 allows users to aim down the sights in 250 milliseconds, and the hip-fire accuracy is moderate. The TAR-21's reload animation is 2.5 seconds long, or 2.93 seconds long on an empty magazine. The user can perform a Reload Cancel after 1.7 seconds.

The TAR-21 has a standard magazine capacity of thirty rounds, and a standard starting ammo loadout of ninety rounds.

The TAR-21 has a mostly standard assortment of assault rifle attachments on offer, although it does not have a standard Red Dot Sight. The TAR-21 instead uses a MARS Sight in place of the Red Dot Sight. All other attachments on the TAR-21 work as expected.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare[]

"A fully automatic bullpup assault rifle with a compact design that lends itself to close-quarter engagements."
— In-game description

The TAR-21 returns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as the RAM-7. It was added as part of the Season One update.

Multiplayer[]

The RAM-7 comes with average damage for an assault rifle with a 4-6 shot kill to the body. This can be lowered to 3-4 shots with headshots. The RAM-7 has a high fire rate of 882 RPM. This is second only to the M13 in the assault rifle class, and the RAM can kill in 1 less shot to the body than the M13 in close quarters. This gives the gun a fast time-to-kill at close-midrange compared to other assault rifles. The 4-shot kill range is 30 meters, and past 43 meters 6 shots will be needed. This decent range combined with the high fire rate makes the gun lethal out to midrange.

The RAM-7 also comes with fast handling for its class. Base ADS time is among the fastest in its class, and the same applies to the movement speed and ADS strafe speed. Hipfire spread is average but workable thanks to the high fire rate and reasonable damage output. These traits make the RAM quite mobile and deadly in smaller areas. Although it doesn’t have the fast sprintout time of an SMG, it is still more maneuverable than many other primary weapons right out of the box. The RAM’s magazine capacity is 30 by default. This can be expended quickly under automatic fire, and reload speed is subpar for its class. It also has a fairly high and unusual recoil pattern. For the first few shots, the RAM bounces upwards before drifting up and strongly to the left under sustained fire. This recoil pattern is manageable in close quarters but can prove troublesome at long range. Overall, the RAM-7 allows for great mobility and solid damage output but suffers from moderately high kick and frequent reloading that might warrant attachment slots to fix.

The RAM features a healthy complement of attachments typical for an assault rifle. The FTAC 13.5" Compact barrel will slightly hamper long ranged effectiveness but slightly boost ADS and move speeds. Conversely, the FSS Ranger barrel will grant significant bonuses to damage range and recoil control but will noticeably slow down the gun's handling. The FORGE TAC Eclipse sits in the middle, providing a moderate damage range increase with only a minor ADS penalty. Given the RAM can struggle over longer sightlines, the Eclipse barrel can often be worth considering as midrange effectiveness will be bolstered without compromising the gun’s snappy handling.

Most other attachments perform as expected. Attachments that boost ADS speed like the XRK Close Quarters Stock can make the RAM even more snappy and fearsome in tight spaces. A 1mw or 5mW Laser will help improve the gun’s hipfire and provide additional responsiveness in close quarters. Alternatively, a Compensator or other attachments that improve recoil control or recoil stabilization can reduce the weapon’s hefty recoil for more accuracy. Combining this with an optic can help round out the RAM’s midrange performance. A Tactical Suppressor is also an interesting choice. The weapon’s fast handling can handle the minor ADS speed penalty and make for a deadly silent killer. Finally, the RAM’s reload issue can be rectified with a 50 Round Mag or Sleight of Hand. The former lessens the need to reload and provides extra reserve ammo, while the latter provides a boost to reload speed with no negative consequences.

In Gunfight mode, it was possible for players to receive the RAM-7 with a 9mm Para 60-round drum magazine conversion, despite this attachment not being available to the weapon under normal circumstances.

Trivia[]

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2[]

  • In the campaign and Special Ops, the TAR-21 can be found with a Red Dot Sight instead of the MARS Sight.
  • The iron sights have the writings "Intensity Fire". This is best seen while using a grenade launcher when prone.
  • When using the TAR-21 Holographic Sight, the camouflage choice is a different shade on the attachment than on the gun.
  • When viewed in third person with any attachment other than optics, the TAR-21 has no iron sights.
  • When spinning to the right on a high sensitivity, it is possible to see a gap in the render on the right side.
  • When the MARS Sight is used, the built-in rear sight is shown.
  • The TAR-21 with digital camouflage has a distinct black color added to the mix.
  • The TAR-21 actually has two front sights. This is most easily seen with the Shotgun or Grenade Launcher equipped.
  • The HUD icon shows an holographic sight attached instead of the iron sights.
  • In Campaign Remastered, the weapon's firing sound is more metallic and has more firepower. the recoil is also more controllable.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare[]

  • While reloading on empty, the charging handle will slide down as the operator raises the weapon, as the weapon does not have a spring to support said handle.
    • However, while reloading while aiming down sights, the handle will remain in place, as the operator does not raise it.
