Trivia

I found some trivia that the care package crate does no longer kill you by falling on you it can be seen at 3 minutes in this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDVm8yAGNpg also in that vid shows you vote out of two maps, or random map. Also new map called Nuketown (unsigned)

The care package is only shown to not kill team mates in core game modes in that video. No official videos have shown what happens if it falls on you or on an enemy. This tweet may hint that the care package drop can kill enemines but isn't really conclusive:

Well actually I'd have to say no because well there was no mention of any events in any of the MWs. And they are made by two diffrent companys and does anyone else remember how mad IW got when Treyarch put 3 in the CoD3 title so why would they let them use the same universe. sniper team is partially right. all IW COD's have made small refrences to each other, and all treyarch's games as well. There "universes" go as followed: WW2, IW's Modern Warfare, Treyarch's World at War- Black ops and zombies.

• The reasons being the WW2 games (pre COD4) are all very similar in the way they were played, treyarch's games were expantions excluding Cod3.

• Modern warfare revolves around the same conflict, modified to each respected game, main characters return, and deceased main characters are referenced.

• Black ops is classified in the Treyarch recent history (1935-present) universe. Black Ops makes refrences to WAW and main characters return in the cold war era.

• Zombies are a stand alone universe, still in recent history, because zombies aren't considered WAW "canon". no where in WAW's canon campaign are zombies referenced.

all that to say Black ops is in WAW's universe at a time period similar to Modern Warfare.

Multiplayer Gametypes

In the 1 hour gamespot video at about 2:25 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDVm8yAGNpg), David Vonderhaar says that there are possibly Hardcore, Core, and Barebones variations for each game mode.

So you know the game as probably 'core' and a lot of people also know the 'hardcore' version of the game which removes the HUD and makes the game deadlier. But there's also a 'barebones' variation of every game mode; or there could be... - David Vonderhaar

He then goes on to describe what the barebones variation consts of. The gametypes section should probably be updated to reflect the fact that there will be a barebones variation on some game modes. David Vonderhaar also posted a tenative list of game modes in the CoDHQ forums That was over a month ago, so that list probably isn't current anymore. It does demonstrate that the playlists probably won't be organized like MW2's playlists were and will probably be organized more like WaW's playlists were. codemaker 18:19, November 8, 2010 (UTC)

Sacrificial Lamb trophy

It sounds easy doesn't it? Kill six zombies after getting hit with a bolt from a PaP crossbow. The trick is, the PaP crossbow shoots red lasers that have the same effect as the Monkey Bomb. Price

The game needs some additional information. First, you need to add a Nazi Germany or at least remants of nazi forces to the enemy list, as well as british commandos. You fight them both in an arctic level "Project Nova".

Also, large body of WW2 weapons are in the game, namely Mp40, Stg 44, Kar98k, Ppsh-41, Sten, Mossin-Nagant. At least they are in single player, so they are still in game. Regardless they are in multiplayer or not.

I have no idea what this has to do with the hardened editions price. Hunter Steven 08:44, November 8, 2010 (UTC)

This game features a nazi germans as enemies at the "Project Nova" level, you also fight british commandos. Its a flashback mission and it means loads of WW2 weapons are in the game as well. Like Mp40, Stg44, Mosin-Nagant, Ppsh-41, Sten gun.

The End that Marks a New Beginning

Well, here it is, with just 6 hours left until the game is released, all of us (or most of us) will finally get our hands on Call of Duty Black Ops. The last couple of months have really gone by really fast (as if you didn't know). Heck, it feels like yesterday when we heard Black Ops coming out this November 9th. Since their creation, our Black Ops articles have slowly grown with bits of information coming from here and there until they became the articles they are today. Countless users have provided the admins with new info, videos, correctional errors, pictures etc over the past few months to make the articles stand out from other websites crack at them. The end of all this however, will mark a new beginning. Our hard work doesn't end here, no; we now get to finally take Black Ops apart piece by piece to further expand our Black Ops related articles. So now, go play the game, enjoy yourself, send some zombies to their graves, and then get ready to come back and edit, because this wiki is gonna get crazy for the next few weeks, and remember, NO ONE EDITS ALONE!

Black Ops Program Files

I just played my first session of black ops. Fantastic game but I'm a bit annoyed with steam support. Firstly the launch shortcuts are Internet shortcuts so my SP shortcut is just a white page with the Internet explored icon. Secondly, and the main reason I'm annoyed is that Steam hasn't followed the usual path of C:/Program Files/Activision/Black Ops so now I have know idea where the IWDs are and I want them cos they have the SFX files. Is there any way to make the installation path like the one above? I don't mind reinstalling but I want to avoid that if possible.   • Ashwilso12 is right. Steam saves files of games that, in my own words, "are from companies that are loosly connected to Valve, I.E. Activision, Bethesda, etc". You cannot change this, or Steam won't be able to read where your files are. Thusly, if you DID move it, you might be able to play Single Player, but no co-op or Multiplayer support is availible. Zombies

So I was playing on Call of Duty 7 and I clicked on (spoiler) zombies. So it can up with this level in a theater and has modern weapons. It showed that they got put in the teleporter and disappeared. Did they go through time to modern or did they obtain other weapons. Also there is paintings of all the the past men and the zombies are alot faster. Finally if you buy a perk like quick revive (its in the first room for 500$) if you get down then you go down with a Akimbo C-3000 from Der riese but get back up. Plus it has two other maps which i havent played yet.

PC Glitch

NO PROGRESSION IN SPLITSCREEN

It's difficult to find this information online, and it needs to be in the article - there is no leveling or progression of any kind for splitscreen local play.

INTERACTIVE MENU SCREEN

I found out yesterday that you can actually look around in the menu screen by moving the Right Thumbstick. i just thought this was really intresting. if you look to the right, you see the screens seen on GKNOVA6.com. and if you look down you see a man that appears to have been recently tortured EDIT: i just found out that the man is Mason --Newraiden23 22:39, November 10, 2010 (UTC)

Also if you press both bumpers then you can break free and move around. If you go to the computer and type in DOA then hit "enter" it brings you "dead ops" which is a arcade-type game. You also unlock an achievement.

And I don't think, in team deathmatch, that extra points for headshots and other bonuses will be added to the team's score. It is just normal team deathmatch with normal scoring.

Clean-up

With the release of the game, this article is in need of some major clean-up to be up to the same standard as our other game articles (ie. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2). I still see some information that has either been clarified by the release of the game, or completely incorrect. Campaign

That's a good question, actually. We used to, but eventually came to the conclusion that we can show of the wiki's talent for capturing pictures better by adding a really good one rather than the template picture supplied. Ranked Leaderboard

Multiplayer leaderbard:

Does anyone know what a "ranked match" means? For example, it says that in monthly leaderboard you must compete in 25 ranked matches to have your stats show on the list, and for weekly its 5, all time its 50. I played 4 straight hard core ffa games and for monthly it stayed at 23 games played?

does this have anything to do with me not prestiging and staying at 50? any insight?

FAMAS and AUG an outrage?

Does anyone else agree that the FAMAS and AUG should have damage reductions? For example: The Galil and the FAMAS kill in the same number of bullets in core modes. The difference being: The FAMAS fires nearly 200 rounds per minute faster. This also applies to the AUG. Does this seem inbalanced?

that smoking lady is in intro video, broadcasting numbers, and in the mission U.S.D.D. you pass by a woman smoking, and the game then goes into a slowmotion view, and then the females voice starts broadcasting numbers again.

Stealth?

"Black Ops features considerably more stealth than any other entry in the Call of Dutyseries."

I beg to differ, in MW2 you have a lot more stealth than Black Ops. In MW2 you have the first half of "Cliffhanger", the first half of "Contingency", the first part of "Just Like Old Times" and the beginning of "The Only Easy Day... Was Yesterday". Black Ops has the first part of "WMD", the first part of "Victor Charlie" and some minor moments at the beginning of "Operation 40", "Executive Order" and "Rebirth". In MW2 you also had the Spec Ops missions "Hidden", "Evasion" and "Acceptable Losses"

In my opinion you are hidden for a longer time in MW2, you kill more ememies while hidden; "Modern Warfare 2 features considerably more stealth than any other entry in the Call of Dutyseries."

Just saying it has stealth does not make it so. Examples halp get the point across. So...

Black Ops

1) Operation 40: began as a stealth mission, eroded shorty after

2) Executive Order: began as a stealth mission, again cover blown shorty after

3) Victor Charlie: stealth elements, not a stealth mission.

4) WMD: stealth maintained for decent time, longest instance of stealth in the game

5) Rebirth: sneaking around for 5 minutes, little stealth

Modern Warfare 2

1) Cliffhanger: begins as stealth mission, cover blown ~halfway through

2) The Only Easy Day...Was Yesterday: began as stealth, cover blown a few minutes in

3) Contingency: begins as stealth mission, cover blown ~1/3 through mission

4) Loose Ends: attempt stealth mission, but fails at beginning

5) The Enemy of My Enemy: the entire mission, up until the end, can be played in stealth

6) Just Like Old Times: stealth mission, maintained until ~1/3 in

Now, this is just campaign, since this is where the statement is directed. Missions not listed may include stealth elements since...it's the smart thing to do in war. But, looking at this, it's not correct to say Black Ops features "considerably" more stealth than MW2, or any CoD game. Hell, Black Ops campaign was one big Michael Bay movie... 1) Only Easy Day wasn't too stealthy. Large explosions and almost being seen by a Little Bird isn't stealth

2) How the hell is Loose Ends stealthy at all?

Did you even play MW2 or Black Ops? I don't think you even read anything I said, because I said Loose Ends was an "attempt" at a stealth mission. And if you look at the time spent in stealth rather than attemtping to match the points on a "every mission is equal" basis, you'd realize that Black Ops features almost no stealth. However, I really don't care if you think Black Ops is the most stealthy game since Metal Gear Solid 4, but the important thing is that the original quote is absent from the page. Idiot. An "attempt at a stealth mission" isn't a fucking stealth mission! The Enemy of My Enemy is only stealth if you play it that way. My first time playing I switched out my sniper rifle for an enemy gun and went loud almost the entire time. Could we add something to the Wii section of Black Ops?

One difference between the Wii and other consoles not listed on the main page for Black Ops is that, in the 15th and last level called "Redemption," the 360/PS3/PC versions start out with the player controlling a helicopter and destroying targets located around the ship. Then, the helicopter gets shot down and the player is forced to bail out. On the Wii version, however, the level immediately starts out with the player jumping out of the copter.

I don't know who is able to edit the page for Black Ops, but to whoever can, it'd be great if you could add this. Here's links to the different versions as proof:

Wii

I think that we should add the fact that on the Wii, numerous problems have been occurring. This has also happened to me three days ago, and when I googled it, I found out it has been happening to A LOT of Wii users. The CD is too heavy for the Wii's laser, causing it to overwork itself to read the disc, which then causes the laser to stop functioning completely. This leads to the Wii's RRoD, which is the 'An error occurred, please press the Eject button and refer to Wii manual for further instruction." Maj. Blackout 03:21, January 5, 2011 (UTC)

XBL Ban-fest?

Several of my friends have been banned after playing Black-Ops. Some of my friends in real life say that oftentimes the team that loses will start voting to ban people. Given that 12 of my XBL friends have been banned or had their Gamerscore reduced to 0, I'm a little scared to get Black Ops. If anything, I am most certanly shocked. You shouldn't worry about getting blocked. Talking to T arc by letter, email, or face book would probably keep you safe. Try telling them that you want to have a good time playing Blops, and don't plan to sin or do evil. I would have to guess it would be because of one of the following:

1: 10 year old kids who are spoiled getting pissed that they lost.

2: 5 year olds spazzing

3: Demented people

4: People who hate losing

5: Poor player's attempt to get better players for the future

6: Just plain jerk wads in general.

7: people who like to screw you up.

8: Hackers trying to stop you, or get personal info. Like what happened to PSN.

9: Your friends were simply too good at the game, and others spazzed and whined.

10: crappy players trying to mess up your life because of their lack of skill.

If you wouldn't mind that I ask: were they using noob tactics? (Spawn camping, power weapons used, etc.)

Article Update

Someone with the ability to change this page needs to do so, and preferably as soon as possible. I'm seriously losing brain cells reading it.

The summary of the campaign needs to be reduced at least 75%. Reading the damn thing takes longer than playing it. Cover major plot points and leave it at that.

Computer codes do not need to be in an article summarizing the game. Easter eggs that are so relatively unimportant to the rest of the game taking up as much space on the main article as the campaign summary will leave readers confused as to exactly what the purpose of the game is; if it's a shooter or a god damned puzzle on a computer console in the Main Menu.

The Multiplayer section also needs significant trimming. A quick explanation of the basic function of multiplayer in Call of Duty, and then descriptions of things that are new and things that have remained the same. Major things, too. If someone says that "you still get 50 extra points for a headshot" or "Marathon moved from Slot 1 to Slot 3" then they need to stop editing altogether.

Remove the list of gametypes, replace the maps with the map template (like you have with the perks), and make footnotes to the effect that some maps are from two different DLC packages. Do not mention once in the Maps section that eight maps come from DLC, and then mention again in the DLC section that eight maps come from the DLC. Fuck.

Holy shit on a Pope-stick, the Pictures. The Pictures section look like a retard's scrapbook, and I'm not altogether convinced that it's not. If we already have a picture containing images of ALL the weapons, why do we need seven-goddamn-teen more? And why have half of them been there since the first trailer for this game came out? Do we have no updates?

And the same goes for both the Characters and Locations subsections. Christ alive, out of 22 maps, we have three pictures? Two zare from the trailer and the other literally has no higher quality than the thumbnail. Are we sure that's Cracked? Are we sure that's not dog feces?

Why is there a Miscellaneous subsection, and why is it folllowed then by two MORE subsections? Miscellaneous is usually last, and that's not to say that having it is even justified. We can honestly do away with the entire Pictures section, but, if we can't, let it be known that a well-trained monkey could classify those seventeen pictures a little better than "miscellaneous."

Theater already has its own section and article. Who is the champion that authorized the inclusion of those three pictures, with no accompanying explanation as to what is going on in them?

Eleven pictures containing a grand total of two different logos, one of which is at the top of the god damn page. There are some really retarted articles on this Wiki, but this part trumps them all.

Okay, so Riddle me this, Batman. We have a category of Nintendo Wii-specific trivia, followed by a Video category, followed by a Controversy section that really should have been much further up in the page, followed by another video section, followed by another trivia section, followed by a piece of trivia that, for some reason, got its own section. You're seriously telling me that this article is Feature-worthy?

Neither video section is necessary, and both contain more videos than justifiable. Make the Nintendo Wii section look a little less like a Trivia section, trim it down to the vitals, and put it NEXT to information on the other systems. We can get rid of all the Videos and leave only one or two gameplay trailers. Also, "Triple Collateral Quick Scoping 5 Streak?" Get that self-aggrandizing bullshit off this Wiki and never let it come back.

I am not actually sure this article can be salvaged. I leave you with this quote as my rationale, which was either written by a monkey or an idiot: "As seen in Payback Demo, originally missions' starting lines looked similarly to the ones from Call of Duty: World at War."

Should Treyarch have weapon DLC's for multiplayer?

This is an idea I've had for a while. Treyarch uses the MP40 in two zombie maps (Kino der Toten and Call of the Dead), possibly brought to each map by Richtofen. I think Treyarch should make the MP40 a DLC weapon, as it is a personal favorite of mine, and possibly many people as well, even though it's not time-period specific (I mean, there's like 11 guns already that aren't). Another weapon DLC is kinda overpowered, but whatever. I think Treyarch should have the wonder weapons (Ray Gun, Matryoshka Dolls, Scavenger, and Wunderwaffe DG-2) as DLC weapons as well. Some of you may be thinking that they're overpowered, but listen: The Ray Gun can just kill people like any other gun, the Matryoshka Dolls can be a new form of grenade, the Scavenger does what it usually does, and the Wunderwaffe can kill up to multiple people like in zombies. Yet the only way people can get the wonder weapons is for Treyarch to add secret achievements that people need to do on the zombie maps to get them. Oh, and the Mustang and Sally and Dragon's Breath wouldn't be too bad of attachments for the M1911 and SPAS-12.Anakin7154 01:29, June 23, 2011 (UTC)

100% false. If you go to your Xbox hard drive, Retaliation is the name of Escalation inside the game. "Escalation" will not appear in your saved data, whereas Retaliation will. Idk about the multiplayer maps, but Quarantine has been rumored to be the next Zombie map ever since Black ops came out. No, it is 100% false. As Moon is the last Zombies map for Black Ops, and we don't know whether Treyarch are making another Call of Duty game. It was wrong four times in a row, and people need to realise that it's not going to happen. In wager match match section for "One in the Chamber" it reads:

One in the Chamber - Each player is given an M1911 with one bullet and a knife. ine hit from any weapon will kill a player. For each kill achieved the player will receive one more bullet. However, each player will only have three lives.

"One" is misspelled. I would correct it but it won't allow me to.

Mac?

Black Ops is not available for Mac.

I'm saying this from personal experience, I had to use Bootcamp to get it to work.

In the platforms section of the top-right box it doesn't say Mac, but in the opening paragraph it does. Can someone verify what's going on?

WTH Himilayas?

I never recall in Black Ops (other than Shangri La Zombies) to ever visit the Himilayas. And the Link on the featured page takes you to WMD, which the campaign describes as being in the Urals. So why is it Himilaya?
