- "Explosives for the team. 2 Semtex + 4 ammo for launchers."
- — Description.
Team Explosives is a Team Support item that appears in Call of Duty: Ghosts, mode Extinction. It allows the player to support the team by supplying them with various explosives. It is unlocked by default and is the first team support that players have access to.
When given, Team Explosives can have one or two effects on each person that collects the contents of Team Explosives. The guaranteed effect that happens to all users is that they will receive lethal equipment. The type and quantity of lethal equipment received changes depending on the upgrade level. The second effect only applies to those using the Kastet or the Panzerfaust launchers, as Team Explosives will add reserve ammo for said weapons. Team Explosives is nigh essential if using launchers, as it serves as the only way to resupply said category of weapons.
Upgrading Team Explosives will increase the amount of ammo given to launchers, change the variety of lethal equipment given, and increase the number of lethal equipment given.
The effectiveness of Team Explosives ramps up when the number of players increases. Despite each player having a limit on placing Bouncing Betties and Claymores, the team can lay down an incredibly large amount of explosives to saturate an area, warding off hordes of enemies or at least weakening heavier foes. It also increases in effectiveness if an Engineer is playing, as the Engineer has increased explosive damage when their class is upgraded fully.
Because Team Explosives is unlocked by default, higher level players are discouraged from equipping Team Explosives if new or very low-level players are present, since those newer players will have no choice but to carry Team Explosives. Team Explosives are still worthwhile to carry in a match with high-levelled players if others are supplying Armor and Team Boosters, providing a team benefit that isn't commonly utilized.
Despite being unlocked by default, Team Explosives is among the least popular team support items. The effect of additional ammo for launchers is almost irrelevant as the launchers are among the worst weapons to use in Extinction and are thus almost never used. As for providing lethal equipment, it can prove marginally useful, but this effect can actually be detrimental on Mayday, Awakening, and Exodus, maps that feature craftable lethal equipment and thus actively discourage users from replacing their built lethal equipment by picking up Team Explosives. Point of Contact and Nightfall are the only maps in which Team Explosives should be used in any capacity, as there is no fear of someone accidentally losing their Pipe Bombs, Venom Grenades, or NX-1 Grenades on said maps.
