"After the third breakout, Gruppenführer Richter tried to weaponize the geistkraft energy as a means of controlling the undead. This prototype projects a stream of geistkraft energy particles which have been attuned through the atomic lens of crystalized undead plasma and then bonded with the alternating frequencies of two resonant transformer circuits. The weapon is destructive to any undead targets near the point of impact...and after several promising experiments, only resulted in 12 fatalities among the non-undead."

The Tesla Gun is a semi-automatic geistkraft weapon featured in the maps The Final Reich, The Shadowed Throne, The Tortured Path, Bodega Cervantes, U.S.S. Mount Olympus, and Altar of Blood within the Nazi Zombies mode of Call of Duty: WWII.

Overview[]

Nazi Zombies[]

The Tesla Gun is one of the byproducts of the German research that occurred in Mittelburg. It was originally created to eliminate any zombies that were threatening the Germans, during testing and in combat. It is powered by Geistkraft energy, the same energy used in the creation of the undead, while the weapon itself is created with the use of the automated Weapon Assembly Station and the energy received from the Geistkraft Transfer Device within the Emperor's Chamber. As revealed by the Notebook, Heinz Richter was the weapon's creator, while Klaus Fischer was responsible for creating the four variants of the Tesla Gun, naming them after the four mythical weapons that were once wielded by Emperor Frederick Barbarossa's Royal Guards.

The base gun is a powerful energy projectile weapon with accurate hipfire, medium projectile speed, and splash effect on impact. The initial impact deals mild damage to all enemies within its splash but also stuns these enemies. After several seconds of stun, these enemies are dealt a much larger amount of electrical damage. However, the low magazine size and reserve ammunition mean that players using the Tesla Gun shouldn't be over-reliant on it, as it will run out of ammo quickly if used as a primary weapon.

The Tesla gun can also be upgraded into four different variants in The Final Reich:

  • Midnight: slow moving projectile that penetrates and damages zombies within its path
  • Reaper: area of effect projectile which stuns the target and deals high damage to enemies surrounding it. After several seconds, the stunned zombie will run toward the closest enemy then explode
  • Hurricane: extremely slow moving projectile that penetrates and damages zombies; projectile stops when it hits a solid surface and will continue to deal AoE damage for several seconds before dissipating
  • Bloodthirst: area of effect projectile which stuns enemies then, after several seconds, causes stunned zombies to explode dealing AoE damage to nearby zombies

The Tesla Gun is first assembled in The Final Reich and plays an important role within its casual and hardcore easter eggs. The Tesla gun and its variants are assembled at a central console. If the Tesla gun (or any of its variants) is exchanged for another weapon, it can be re-obtained from the central console with the same amount of ammo it had when exchanged. In this way, a solo player can obtain all four variants and swap between them to complete the Hardcore Easter Egg (which requires the chandelier be shot once by each of the variants).

As revealed during The Darkest Shore, the MFAA team had actually brought along the Tesla Gun and its variants to the island with them. However, the crate containing them fell overboard during the initial beach assault, destroying them and rendering them unusable. However, the gunstock of the Tesla Gun would be salvaged and used to help create the Ripsaw.

In The Shadowed Throne, the player can obtain both the Tesla Gun and the Ripsaw by inserting the word "WONDER" on the Hangman game on the sign above the Cabaret entranceway. Unlike the Ripsaw, the Tesla Gun's ammunition can be replenished through a Taschen Voll or by heavy meleeing an enemy and scavenging ammo.

In The Tortured Path, the Tesla Gun and one of its four variants can appear within one of the B.A.T. Ordinance drops that are dropped into the three maps after the completion of an objective wave. In Bodega Cervantes, U.S.S. Mount Olympus, and Altar of Blood, the Tesla Gun and its variants can be obtained from the Mystery Box. After the completion of a small easter egg in each map, the player can obtain a red battery that will be inserted into the map's Ubersprengen. This allows the player to place the regular Tesla Gun in the Ubersprengen, allowing it to be upgraded into the AC-AC, gaining increased ammo, damage, and the respective map's upgraded camouflage.

Multiplayer[]

The Tesla Gun was unlocked in multiplayer during the Attack of the Undead community event, being only available for use in the Infected, Hordepoint, and Relic of the Dead gamemodes. It can be picked up from randomly killed zombies (players in Relic of the Dead), and starts with a total of ten shots. However, ammo can be replenished for the Tesla Gun by picking up other Tesla Guns lying on the ground.

The Tesla Gun is an incredibly powerful and dangerous weapon to use. It can easily destroy an entire group of enemies in a single shot, causing insane splash damage that can also kill the user in close proximity. Because of the Tesla Gun's near unstoppable power and ability to kill enemies faster than almost any other weapon in the game, it cannot be dropped by an enemy currently using a Tesla Gun.

The Tesla Gun can also be used in Operation Arcane in War Mode.

Parts[]

The Tesla Gun is constructed from two main parts; the barrel and the core, while the rest of the gun can be found on the Weapon Assembly Station.

Barrel[]

"Forged of austenitic steel, this barrel is built to direct geistkraft energy towards the resonant transformer circuits at the tip."
— Notebook Information

In order to begin assembling the Tesla Gun, the player must first charge the Geistkraft Transfer Device within the Emperor's Chamber. Once it has reached the Command Room, the power in the entire bunker will be disabled. The player must then interact with a button on the raised platform containing the Weapon Assembly Station. Pressing with button will cause the transfer device to move towards the Laboratory. The player must kill zombies within the red ring underneath the transfer device until it plugs itself into a machine in the Laboratory. During the process, a Wüstling will occasionally break free of its containment unit within the Laboratory. After the transfer device finishes powering the machine in the Laboratory, the barrel of the Tesla Gun can be picked up from the machine.

Core[]

"A vacuum-sealed core of crystallized plasma derived from reanimated flesh, this is both a geistkraft battery and dampening rod with a frequency set to the maximum disruption of undead neurons."
— Notebook Information

After the player picks up the barrel, the transfer device will now move towards the Command Room. Upon reaching the Command Room, the device will now head for a machine in the Morgue. The player must repeat the same process as within the Laboratory until the transfer device plugs itself in with a machine in the Morgue, eventually distributing the core.

Upon picking it up, a Brenner will spawn in the Command Room. The player must deal with before they can forge the Tesla Gun. After the Brenner is dealt with and the two pieces of the Tesla Gun are added to the Weapon Assembly Station, the transfer device will plug itself into the station, allowing the player to forge the Tesla Gun.

Variants[]

The Tesla Gun has four different upgradeable variants, each boasting different abilities that differ from the base Tesla Gun. To acquire each variant, a special type of Überschanlle battery has to be acquired for each variant. The lightning rod step for the map's main easter egg must also be completed as well.

Bloodthirst[]

"Klaus Fischer was fascinated by the surprising variety in which geistkraft energy could be manipulated through different resonant frequencies. He created four variants of Richter's Tesla Gun, each named after the mythical weapons wieldied by Emperor Barbarossa's Royal Guards. Bloodthirst was a legendary sword said to boil the very blood of the unworthy, but it had originally been one half of a paired set of blades. The second was lost during the Crusades, but Klaus was convinced it had been returned to Germany."

To obtain the Überschanlle battery for this variant, the player must locate a flickering streetlight in the Riverside. When the player finds it, the player must shoot the light with the normal Tesla Gun. When this is done, another light which begin to flicker. The player must now shoot that light, which will change to another light. The player must keep doing this until it leads the player to lowest floor of the Morgue, where the battery will appear when the final light is shot. The player must pick up the battery and place it in a device in the same room.

The player must now charge the battery by killing Pests with the use of the Morgue Trap. Whenever the battery glows green when there is enough Pests in the area, it indicates it is ready to be charged. The player must activate the trap and have the Pests be killed by the trap. This will cause lighting to spark from the battery. The player must repeat this one more time until the battery is fully charged. The player can now pick the battery back up from the device and place it in one of the side slots next to the machine that rewards the player a piece of the Tesla Gun when first building the Tesla Gun. The player must then interact with the battery when it is in the slot, which will close it in and start a defensive process. The player must now defend the battery from attacking zombies. When the process is complete, the machine will activate again and eventually release a new part for the Tesla Gun. The player can pick it up and bring it to one of the tables at the Weapon Assembly Station in the Command Room. The player can now place the normal Tesla Gun down on the Bloodthirst's table to upgrade it to the Bloodthirst.

Hurricane[]

"Klaus Fischer was fascinated by the surprising variety in which geistkraft energy could be manipulated through different resonant frequencies. He created four variants of Richter's Tesla Gun, each named after the mythical weapons wieldied by Emperor Barbarossa's Royal Guards. Hurricane was a legendary warhammer said to summon a force of a mighty storm when evil approached."
— Notebook Information

To obtain the Überschanlle battery for this variant, the player must first get a Bomber with its bomb still attached and lure it to a closed locker on the staircase in the Laboratory near the Disposal Tube. The player must get the Bomber to detonate its bomb when it is close to the locker, which will cause the locker to break open and reveal the battery. The player can take the battery and place it in a device located within the Laboratory Trap.

The player must now lure two Wüstlings into the trap. When they are both within the trap, the light on the battery will turn green, meaning it will receive a charge from the Wüstlings. The player must activate the trap, which will kill the Wüstlings and cause the battery to emit a surge of lightning. The player must repeat this one more time, which will charge the battery. The player can now pick up the battery and place it in a side slot in the machine within the Laboratory which gives the player a piece for the normal Tesla Gun. When the battery is in place, the player can interact with it, which will start a defensive process. The player must now defend the battery from zombies until the process is complete. When the process is complete, the machine will activate again and eventually release a new part for the Tesla Gun. The player can pick it up and bring it to one of the tables at the Weapon Assembly Station in the Command Room. The player can now place the normal Tesla Gun down on the Hurricane's table to upgrade it to the Hurricane.

Midnight[]

"Klaus Fischer was fascinated by the surprising variety in which geistkraft energy could be manipulated through different resonant frequencies. He created four variants of Richter's Tesla Gun, each named after the mythical weapons wieldied by Emperor Barbarossa's Royal Guards. Midnight was a legendary morning star said to smash through the ranks of oncoming foes like moonlight through shadow."
— Notebook Information

To obtain the Moonraven Überschanlle that is required to craft the unique barrel, the player must acquire a Brenner Head. When the player acquires one, they can bring the head over to the Courtyard, where the player can shine the light from the head onto one of the statues, which will shatter and reveal the battery. The player must now shoot the battery with a normal Tesla Gun shot, which will drop it into the map, where the player can pick it up and place it in a Überschanlle charger in the Courtyard.

The player must now get five or more standard zombies in the area. When enough zombies are in the area, the battery will pulse green. When the S-Mine Trap is activated with enough zombies around, the battery will suddenly spark with energy, indicated that it has accepted the charge.

The player can now pick up the now charged Überschanlle and bring it down to the milling machine in the Laboratory which after Lightning Rods have been powered, will have two new slots allowing the Stormraven and Moonraven Überschanlles to be placed in. The Überschanlle can be placed within the left most slot which will allow interaction with, which will start the transfer of power. The player must now defend the battery from zombies until the process is complete. When the process is complete, the machine will activate again and eventually release a barrel for the Tesla Gun. The player can pick it up and bring it to one of the tables at the Weapon Assembly Station in the Command Room. The player can now place the normal Tesla Gun down on the Midnight's table to upgrade it to the Midnight.

Reaper[]

"Klaus Fischer was fascinated by the surprising variety in which geistkraft energy could be manipulated through different resonant frequencies. He created four variants of Richter's Tesla Gun, each named after the mythical weapons wieldied by Emperor Barbarossa's Royal Guards. Reaper was a legendary scythe that was said to cut through enemies as though wielded by Death himself."
— Notebook Information

To obtain the Überschanlle battery for this variant, the player must lure a Wüstling to a closed locker within the Sewers. The player must have the Wüstling break open the locker by having it either charge at the locker or have it break it open with its claw by standing in front of the locker when the Wüstling attempts to attack the player. When the locker opens, it will reveal a battery, which can be placed in a device adjacent from the locker.

The player must now lure two Bombers to the battery. When they are close enough, the battery will light up green. The player must now kill the Bombers with the use of the Saw Trap, which will kill the Bombers, causing the battery to emit a lightning charge. The player must repeat this one more time, which will fully charge the battery. The player can pick up the battery and bring it to the machine in the Morgue which is used to obtain a piece of the normal Tesla Gun and place it in one of the side slots. The player can now place the normal Tesla Gun down on the Reaper's table to upgrade it to the Reaper.
