Cutscene[]
A fleet of US Navy ships consisting of two destroyers and an aircraft carrier sails through the seas amid a sunset. An F/A-18 Hornet jet takes off from the aircraft carrier's deck. Adler stands on a catwalk looking down the various aircraft on the launch deck and smoking a cigarette.
Hudson: Perseus. The CIA's analysts consider him to be the single largest threat to the Free World.
Reagan: You've been given an important task. Protecting our very way of life from a great evil.
Perseus: (voiceover) The United States and its allies slowly consume that which is dear to us.
Another F/A-18 jet warms up its engines and prepares to take off.
Hudson: We are hours away from Perseus detonating nuclear bombs in every major European city.
Several Marines are gathered around a UH-1 Iroquois helicopter, loading supplies onto the vehicle itself.
Adler: We'll do whatever it takes.
Adler puts out his cigarette and leaves the catwalk.
Adler: Some of us will cross the line, to make sure the line's still there in the morning.
Various shots of soldiers gearing up for the mission ahead. Mason and Woods walk across the deck, with Woods bumping Mason's arms. Another shot of Adler, Mason, Woods, and two Marines walking together towards their transport.
Adler: No one's gonna brand us heroes or villains. They don't know us. As for me... I've been chasing this ghost for thirteen years.
Marines board a UH-1, its rotors spinning up. A flight deck crewman signals for the helicopters to take off.
Adler: That ends now.
The two helicopters lift off the flight deck and fly towards the Solovetsky Islands as the sun sets on the horizon.

THE FINAL COUNTDOWN
"Bell", CIA/MI6/Ex-KGB/Classified
The Solovetsky Islands, USSR
March 15, 1981
Several heavily armored Marrakesh assault vehicles drive through the woods. Bell and Adler in one vehicle, and Woods and Mason in the other. Up ahead, the night sky is lit up with smoke and anti-aircraft fire.
Woods: Coming up on your right. Belikov really came through on this Soviet armor!
Adler: About time you caught up, Woods!
Woods: No way I'm missing this! Motherfuckers are gonna pay for icing Lazar/Park/Park and Lazar!
Adler: You'll get your chance. Solovetsky's two clicks out!
Command: (over radio) All units. EMP in transit.
Pilot: (over radio) Starfish inbound! 400 knots!
A Starfish missile flies over the horizon towards the Solovetsky Monastery.
Adler: When that baby hits, we'll have twelve minutes, max, before the radio towers come back online! Our job is to knock out the AA guns and give our warbirds a clean shot! Let's take Perseus off the air!
The Starfish missile explodes directly over the target area and emits a short blinding light, forcing Bell to cover his eyes. The shockwave hits the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust and debris that hits the assault teams. Bell grabs the vehicle with both hands to steady himself. The vehicles reach the main complex.
Mason: Fuck me, that loosened some fillings! Light 'em up!
Bell readies his War Machine grenade launcher and fires upon the Soviet defenses.
Adler: Now we're cooking!
Woods: Bad guys! Lots of bad guys!
Bell and his team punch through the main defenses.
Adler: Pour it on!; Now, we're cooking!
(If "Bell" accidentally fires on a friendly vehicle...)
Adler: Watch your aim, Bell!
One of the Allied armored vehicles explodes in front of Bell's, causing his vehicle to hit and fly off the ground for a second. Bell loses his War Machine and holds on as the vehicle hits the ground and drives up to the other assault teams gathered outside a large blown-out gap in the stone wall. Bell exits the vehicle and readies his XM4 assault rifle.
Woods: Push up! Push up! Go! Go! Go!
Bell and Adler hop out of the vehicle and head through the stone gap into the monastery base. The assault team encounters Soviet troops and an enemy AA gun.
Adler: AA gun straight ahead!
An RPG-wielding enemy appears and fires a rocket at the Allied forces. The Soviets lay down heavy fire on Bell and his allies.
Adler: RPG! They got us pinned! Bell, toss a smoke for cover!
Bell tosses a smoke grenade and moves up to dispatch the Soviet troops.
Adler: Mason, Woods, cover right!
Bell moves up closer to the AA gun.
Adler: Bell! Plant your C4! Blow that thing to shit!
Bell reaches the AA gun and plants a C4 explosive on the body before taking cover.
Adler: Fire in the hole!; Right! Stand back, C4 is cooking!
The C4 detonates, demolishing the AA gun.
Adler: Nice work, Bell! Head for the church!
Bell heads towards the church. The church doors open, revealing a Soviet soldier that Bell quickly guns down.
Adler: Mason! Woods! Clear out any AA guns on the West Wing!
Woods: We're on it, Adler!
Adler: Cut 'em down!
Bell and Adler enter the church, moving through the chapel.
Hudson: (over radio) Adler, this is Hudson! Have you cleared the AA guns? We need to launch these bombers!
Adler: We got one AA cleared!
Hudson: (over radio) You know that's not good enough! I can't risk an early strike! We only got one shot at this!
Adler: You don't think I know that?
Bell and Adler go downstairs from the chapel and into the catacombs.
Adler: Just be ready to launch when I tell you, Hudson!
Bell and Adler move through the tunnels and encounter more Soviet soldiers.
Adler: Contact!
Bell and Adler dispatch the soldiers inside the wine cellar. Suddenly, smoke billows out and a Soviet Heavy soldier appears.
Adler: Ah shit, I hate these guys! Take 'em down quick! Aim for the head! Aim for the head! Finish him! We're losing time!
Bell and Adler work together to shoot the Soviet Heavy until they bring him down.
Adler: We got maybe five minutes before all of Europe goes nuclear! Pick up the pace!
Bell and Adler kill a few more Soviet soldiers and head upstairs out of the cellar. Suddenly, the lights all turn on throughout the base.
Adler: Their power is coming back on!
Bell and Adler emerge out into the open inside a cemetery where the final AA gun is seen firing at the sky.
Woods: Adler, you seeing this?
Adler: Woods, we're running out of time! I gotta tell Hudson to launch!
Woods: That's a big gamble if that gun ain't cleared!
Bell and Adler push through the cemetery until a heavy machine gunner opens fire on them.
Adler: Watch it! Heavy MG on the ridge!; Bell, take out that MG!
Bell opens fire on the machine gunner until he kills him.
Adler: Hudson! Start your bombing run!
Hudson: (over radio) Copy that! Get your team outta there, Adler!
Adler: Those bombers won't have a chance if we don't clear that last AA gun!
Woods: You better hurry the fuck up!
Pilot: (over radio) Orders confirmed. Bombing strike imminent.
Bell and Adler continue their assault through the cemetery and kill every Soviet soldier they see.
Adler: Bell, the bombers will be here any minute!
Bell reaches the last defenses surrounding the AA gun.
Pilot: (over radio) Coordinates confirmed. One minute to bomb strike.
A countdown timer appears on the screen with one minute left to destroy the AA gun.
Woods: The radio towers are still booting up! We gotta chance!
Bell continues killing the Soviet soldiers until the last of the defenses are wiped out and Bell reaches the AA gun.
Pilot: (over radio) All units, be advised. We are scorching earth. Clear all friendlies. Repeat clear all friendlies.
Bell plants the C4 explosive on the final AA gun and activates it.
Pilot: Ground team, zone is hot! You are danger close! Repeat you are danger close!
Adler: Bell! We gotta go! Now!
Bell turns around to see the American bomber planes leveling the entire area. The bombs explode, destroying everything in their path along with the radio towers. The explosions go off close to Bell and send him flying off the ground, knocked out into unconsciousness.
The screen fades to black.
Cutscene[]
A shot of the Solovetsky Monastery appears on a CIA dossier.
Black: They did it, Mr. President. They stopped the nukes.
Reagan: Thank God.
Black: And the CIA.
Various images of fire and smoke appear.
Reagan: Did they get Perseus?
An image of Perseus appears.
Black: No, sir. His whereabouts are unknown.
The screen zooms out to reveal several TV monitors in the CIA briefing room displaying a statue of Vladimir Lenin, several government officials, and an anti-government protest in Moscow.
Reagan: And the Russian response?
Black: Nothing yet. We're seeing signs of confusion. It's possible this was all a rogue operation. Perseus may not have been following orders from Moscow.
Reagan: Well, I'll be damned. Maybe we have something in common after all.
The screen cuts to black.
Gameplay[]
Hudson's voice is heard over a black backdrop on the screen.
Hudson: (over radio) We stopped him. Those towers are history. What's your situation down there? Come in. Woods, have you found them yet?
Fade in to Bell's POV of some debris as he hears Woods' voice.
Woods: Over here! Give me a hand!
Woods and Mason remove the debris from on top of Bell. Adler walks up to Bell and reaches out his hand to him.
Adler: Take my hand, Bell.
Bell grasps Adler's hand and Adler helps him up to his feet.
Adler: We did it. This is a message to Perseus, and those that'll follow him. We don't just sit back and hope for the best... we'll make the best happen. This is how wars are won, Bell.
Bell, Adler, Mason, and Woods look out over the damaged area as the screen fades to black.
End of level.
Cutscene[]
The following cutscene appears based on the decisions the player made throughout the video game.
An image of a M1911 pistol and two photos of Qasim Javadi and Arash Kadivar appear on a table.
Black: Do you have an update on Qasim Javadi?
Hudson: Yeah. After capturing Qasim Javadi, we've convinced him he's better off working for us, rather than against us. The death of Arash Kadivar opens a path for Qasim to take control of their network. He'll give us a deeper insight into Soviet activity in the Middle East. And with our resources behind him, he should be able to influence regional affairs for years to come.
Black: Do you have an update on Qasim Javadi?
Hudson: Yeah. With both he and Arash Kadivar dead, their terrorist network collapsed as surviving members fought for control. With no clear leadership in place, it appears the Soviets have decided to cut ties and clean up the mess. Approximately 72 hours ago, the militants' primary encampment was burned to the ground. Nothing but ashes. Apparently, the few survivors that escaped have scattered and gone into hiding.
An image of a few photos, a pack of cigarettes, a silenced pistol and a photo of Anton Volkov appears next.
Black: What about Anton Volkov?
Hudson: Volkov has become a prime source of information since his capture. After interrogating him, MI6 established a series of listening posts in East Berlin. They've already intercepted messages from the KGB to assets throughout the city. We're poking holes in the Iron Curtain.
Black: What about Anton Volkov?
Hudson: After his death, elements inside the GDR saw an opportunity to reduce the Russian mob's influence in East Berlin. Two days ago, in a large-scale midnight raid, Stasi swept through the homes of anyone with connections to Volkov. Men, women, and children were all gone before the sun rose. This will be a major setback to underground Soviet activity in Europe.
An image of a sniper rifle, a Chinese food carton, and a 1911 pistol appears next to a photo of Lazar. Alternately, a photo of Park, an ashtray, and a computer appear.
Black: How did the clean-up in Havana go?
Hudson: We were able to recover Agent Azoulay's body from the compound in Cuba. President Reagan personally reached out to his family, and his casket is in transit to Tel Aviv. As you know, Helen Park returned to London. She'll continue to recover from her injuries there. Afterwards, MI6 plans to give her a task force dedicated to finding Perseus.
Black: How did the clean-up in Havana go?
Hudson: We were able to recover Agent Park's body from the compound in Cuba. President Reagan personally reached out to her family, and her casket is in transit to London.
Black: We've spoken to MI6. They're understandably... displeased. We owe them one.
Hudson: Lazar Azoulay is recovering from his injuries in Tel Aviv. He'll return to the Agency in good time. The pursuit of Perseus is personal for him now.
Black: How did the clean-up in Havana go?
Hudson: We were able to recover the remains of Agents Azoulay and Park from the compound in Cuba. Their caskets are in transit to Tel Aviv and London, respectively. President Reagan personally reached out to their families.
Black: We've spoken to MI6. They're understandably... displeased. We owe them one.
Black: What about the rest of the team?
Hudson: They got off Solovetsky before the Soviets could send in forces to investigate. We'll take some time to heal up, and then it's back to work.
An image of a floppy disk, a map of sleeper cells in the US, and a 1911 pistol appears alongside a photo of Robert Aldrich.
Black: We may have stopped Perseus, but his rats are still nesting all around us thanks to the help of one of our own.
Hudson: Not anymore. We took down that son of a bitch Aldrich, as well as his key assets here in the States. It'll take Perseus a while to recover from this one.
Hudson: Well, we did finally get Aldrich, that son of a bitch. Perseus' network is still intact though, and they'll eventually rebuild.
Hudson: True. We failed to hunt down Robert Aldrich and his domestic network of spies. We may have to go to more extreme measures, like broad domestic surveillance. Which of course we're not authorized to do.
Black: Not yet.An image of Vadim Rudnik appears next, along with a cassette tape, photos of Rudnik's agents, a 1911 pistol, and a watch.
Black: What about Europe?
Hudson: Not only did we stop a nuclear attack, we managed to take out Major Vadim Rudnik. That should be a significant blow to Perseus' European network. We also flushed all of Rudnik's key assets down the shitter. Maybe someday Perseus can join them.
Black: Hudson, you're the Shakespeare of Langley. And Bell?
The screen fades to black.
Black: What about Europe?
Hudson: Not only did we stop a nuclear attack, we managed to take out Major Vadim Rudnik. That should be a significant blow to Perseus' European network. We also flushed one of Rudnik's key assets down the shitter. There's a couple left, and eventually they'll hit the sewer too.
Black: Well, you're a wordsmith, Hudson. And Bell?
The screen fades to black.
Black: What about Europe?
Hudson: We may have saved it from getting blown to kingdom come, but it's still stacked with Perseus' agents. There's more we could have done there if we'd had the time.
Black: And Bell?
The screen fades to black.Gameplay[]
The screen fades in to Bell's POV of the cliffside overlooking the sea as seagulls fly over the area. Adler walks in front of him smoking a cigarette as they reach a ledge overlooking the vista. Adler takes a deep breath of air.
Adler: Arctic air. Clears the head, doesn't it?
Adler turns around to face Bell.
Adler: Bell, you made two extraordinary sacrifices to stop Perseus. One was without your knowledge. The other... you made that decision of your own accord.
Adler takes a drag from his cigarette.
Adler: I just want you to know that this little thing that's happened with you and me... It was always for the greater good.
Adler tosses his cigarette away.
Adler: You're a damn hero, you know that, kid?
Adler takes one step away from Bell and looks out over the horizon.
Adler: Heroes have to make sacrifices. That's why when I ask you for one more, I hope you understand... it was never personal.
Bell and Adler quickly draw their pistols and aim at each other as the game enters slow-motion and cuts to black.
End of game.
