The Main Quest of the The Tomb follows Grigori Weaver, Elizabeth Grey, Mackenzie Carver, and Maya Aguinaldo as they explore an abandoned excavation site set up by Archibald Fotherington-Smythe in the Principality of Avalon, as well as a portion of Dark Aether, in order to obtain the Sentinel Artifact.
Prerequisites[]
Before beginning the main quest, players must unlock the Pack-a-Punch Machine and enter the Dark Aether Nexus, as well as construct the Staff of Ice and upgrade it to Ull's Arrow. While the Staff of Ice can be obtained by the Mystery Box, its construction must still be completed in order to continue the quest.
Starting the Quest[]
In the Dark Aether Nexus, surrounding the altar where the Staff of Ice is constructed and upgraded, are four pedestals, each with a small statue of either a Vermin, Parasite, Doppelghast, or Amalgam respectively.
- The Vermin Statue is in front of and to the right of the Altar, if entering from the Subterranean Temple.
- The Parasite Statue is in front of and to the left of the Altar, if entering from the Subterranean Temple, just left of the Pack-A-Punch's initial spawn.
- The Doppelghast Statue is behind the altar and the the left, if entering from the Subterranean Temple, near where the S.A.M. Trial spawns.
- The Amalgam Statue is behind the altar and the the right, if entering from the Subterranean Temple.
Players will have to interact with each of these statues to progress the quest.
Step 1: Vermin Challenge[]
- Shoot the Vermin statue in the Dark Aether Nexus with Sekhmet's Vigor, the "attatchment" for Ull's Arrow, then interact with it.
- Head to the Dig Site and interact with the Vermin statue to start a lockdown. During this lockdown players will be swarmed by Vermin. Kill all Vermin and survive to complete this step.
- Once completed, interact with the statue to obtain Dark Aether Energy and then rush back to the Vermin statue in the Dark Aether Nexus and interact with it.
- Every statue challenge ends with this step. Each time, if the player carrying the energy is hit more than twice, the energy will be lost, and the player will have to interact with the statue they picked it up from again.
- Additionally, for this and all other Statue Challenges, players will not be able to enter through the Portal closest to where the challenge takes place. They will have to run to one of the other three Dark Aether Portals.
Step 2: Parasite Challenge[]
- Shoot the Parasite statue in the Dark Aether Nexus with Sekhmet's Vigor, then interact with it.
- Travel to the Shrine of the Hierophants and interact with the Parasite statue to start a lockdown.
- Parasites will spawn, and each Parasite will drop an energy orb after being killed. Players can collect orbs simply by walking into them, and can then "bank" them at the statue. If a player has an orb to bank, they will be able to see it held in their left hand.
- Once the statue is filled, interact with the statue again, then rush back to the Parasite statue in the Dark Aether Nexus and interact with it. Remember to avoid being hit more than twice.
Step 3: Doppelghast Challenge[]
- Shoot the Doppelghast statue in the Dark Aether Nexus with Sekhmet's Vigor, then interact with it.
- Travel to the Ossuary and interact with the Doppelghast statue to start a lockdown.
- The statue will create circles on the ground that shoot spikes while several Doppelghasts will spawn, swarming the player. The spikes spawned from the statue can also injure or down players trapped by them. Players must survive to the end of the lockdown, killing all Doppelghasts.
- Once all the Doppelghasts are killed, interact with the statue then rush back to the Doppelghast statue in the Dark Aether Nexus and interact with it. Again, avoid being hit more than twice.
Step 4: Amalgam Challenge[]
- Shoot the Amalgam statue in the Dark Aether Nexus with Sekhmet's Vigor, then interact with it.
- Travel to Deep Excavation and interact with the Amalgam statue there to start a lockdown.
- An HVT Amalgam will spawn that will need to be killed to complete the challenge. At various points, a shield will appear around the Amalgam and be tethered to several zombies. Kill the zombies to disable the shield and damage the Amalgam.
- Once the Amalgam is killed, interact with the statue then rush back to the Amalgam statue in the Dark Aether Nexus and interact with it.
Step 5: Sentinel Artifact Boss Fight[]
Once the 4 statues have been charged, A bridge will unlock in the Dark Aether Nexus that leads to the boss arena with the Sentinel Artifact. Interacting with the Sentinel Artifact will start the boss fight.
Tips before Starting[]
- It is best if every player in the lobby has some kind of bullet based weapon, as rapid damage is a key mechanic of the fight and the Sentinel Artifact is immune to the Ray Gun and Staff of Ice.
- It's recommended that players complete the Gold Armor side quest. The Gold Armor automatically regenerates armor plates without having to use a plate itself. The Boss fight is very close quarters and fast paced, and players are likely going to take damage quicker than their regular plates can keep up with, especially in later phases of the fight.
- Aether Shroud is a highly recommended Field Upgrade, as the damage phase requires players to stand still and focus the Sentinel artifact while enemies continue to spawn and swarm the player.
Steps[]
- In the first phase, the Sentinel Artifact will float in the center of the arena while spinning in a circular motion, shooting a sweeping laser beam. The beam will lightly damage and temporarily stun the player, in a way not dissimilar to a Shock Charge. The Sentinel Artifact will also move up and down, shifting the beam between the upper and lower level of the arena. Players must avoid the beam while also fighting off Zombies and other enemies.
- Eventually, the Sentinel Artifact will become vulnerable, signaled by it's orange beam shifting to a slowly moving and expanding purple beam. Players need to unload as much damage as they can into the Sentinel Artifact at this time, until it bursts with a purple energy, indicating the damage threshold was reached. Once enough damage is dealt, the Artifact will lower to the pedestal, before a new phase begins. A max ammo will then spawn, and does so after every phase.
- Players now have to repeat the process over and over again. Starting from the second phase and continuing through the fourth, the Artifact will split into multiple copies, all of which will start spinning around while shooting their laser beam. The artifacts will also begin to spin faster with every phase completion. The artifacts can still only be damaged when they turn purple, but multiple artifacts can be damaged if players work fast enough.
- In the fifth through eighth phases, each phase has an HVT zombie which will spawn with an orange-colored Artifact attached to its back. This HVT zombie can stun players and quickly down them in few hits, while also having a large amount of health. Once killed, the HVT will drop the Artifact. The Artifact will float where it's dropped, and turn purple, signaling that it can be damaged.
- Additionally, in the sixth to eighth phases, two HVTs can spawn, one of which will have a white-colored fake Artifact that cannot be shot at when dropped.
- In the fifth phase, a Heavy Zombie will spawn with the Artifact.
- In the sixth phase, an HVT Doppelghast will spawn with the Artifact.
- In the seventh phase, an HVT Shock Mimic will spawn with the Artifact.
- In the eighth phase, an HVT Amalgam will spawn with the Artifact.
- Additionally, in the sixth to eighth phases, two HVTs can spawn, one of which will have a white-colored fake Artifact that cannot be shot at when dropped.
- In the ninth and final phase, the Artifact will prepare a wipe attack, signaled by the ringing sound of a bell. The Artifact will fly towards the back of the arena, and must be shot at continuously before it can activate the wipe. If done correctly, the Sentinel Artifact will be vanquished.[1]
The cutscene will then play, signaling the completion of the Main Quest.
Post Main Quest[]
As with all Main Quests in Black Ops 6, players are given a choice to either continue playing or exit the game following the quests completion.
Rewards[]
In-Game[]
If the option to continue playing is chosen, the Team is respawned on Dig Site, alongside a multitude of rewards, such as Bonus Points Power-Ups, Aether Tools, Aetherium Crystals, Random Weaponry, Salvage and a Ray Gun. Players are also granted all Perks available in the game if they didn't already have them.
Account[]
Players receive the "The Tomb Quest Complete" calling card, the X-91 Ice-Pike skin for the Staff of Ice, and 5000 player xp.
Additional variants of the calling card were previously available for an Early Completion or Cowabunga Cranked completion. The Early Completion card required players to complete the quest before directed mode launched, and the Cowabunga Cranked card required players to complete the quest in the titular limited time mode. These variants are no longer obtainable.
