Patch will address "security issues that have affected online play"

On February 14th 2011, Infinity Ward announced on their forums that a security update for all platforms (Xbox 360, PS3, PC) would be released shortly. On Feb. 23rd it was stated that the patch had entered "certification at Sony".

The patch will address "security issues that have affected online play", as well as a glitch on the map Fuel, where players could glitch into a rock and become invisible to enemies.

No other details have yet been released, and a release date has not been published, but an ETA is promised as soon as there is one.

This is, however, great news for the CoD community, especially those players who've regularly had to put up with hackers.

The IW forum (which requires age confirmation and thus makes returning to the wiki a nightmare), states:
"The latest patch for Modern Warfare 2 has finished quality assurance and will be entering certification at Sony on Wednesday Feb. 23rd. This new title update will address security issues that have affected online play.

We plan to release this update for all platforms (Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC). No release date is set at this time. Once an ETA is established, it will be posted here.

In addition to the security updates, this patch will also address a small geo exploit on the map Fuel, which players exploited in order to get inside a rock on the outskirts of the map." (See here for the source.)

UPDATE

fourzerotwo has said on Twitter that "nothing beyond [security updates and Afghan] will be changed" in the upcoming patch.
