According to Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime in an interview with CNN, 3rd party games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 look "dramatically better" on Wii U than on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

"The specs are quite different than the competitive systems, much more graphically intensive," Reggie told CNN. "If you do a side-by-side comparison you would actually see that third-party games like Call of Duty look dramatically better on our system."

Reggie's comments contradict analysis from tech experts Digital Foundry, who claim that the Wii U version of Black Ops 2 suffers from "some serious issues" and a rather small player base, which Kotaku claimed on launch had at one point only 560 players online.

"In putting together our usual comparison videos and galleries, what struck us was the level of parity between the 360 and Wii U games - aside from gamma issues, we're essentially looking at exactly the same presentation," Digital Foundry claims, "The Wii U version matches the look of the Xbox 360 game and thus gives it an edge visually over the PlayStation 3 release, but unfortunately it comes up well short in terms of performance, an aspect that is all-important to the playability of a CoD title."

Performance wise in the campaign, the Playstation 3 and Wii U were both competing for better frame rates than the other, while the Xbox 360 stayed well ahead, bouncing on and off the 60 FPS cap, (needless to say the PC was not included), whilst in multiplayer the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 generally run at a higher FPS than the Wii U. That being said, on the Wii U during multiplayer you also get a mini-map which runs right on the touch-screen.

Up until recently, Nintendo has had a rather rough relationship with 3rd party developers, and the Wii U's technical capability is said to be roughly comparable to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, although some developers, such as Crytek, have suggested that the console's "horrible, slow CPU" could bottleneck the system.

You can say whatever you want to say about the Wii U, but one thing's for sure, visually the Playstation 3's version of the game is the runt of the litter. You can check out Digital Foundry's comparison gallery here and Digital Foundry's full review here.
