Chat Ban Edit

Why was I banned from chat? You warned me once on DBAD and UTP, so I dropped the subject. Then you told me to apologize to the dude, which I did, and the next thing I know I get banned. Sigmund Fraud Talk Contributions 21:20, June 5, 2017 (UTC)

I thought it was sincere enough, but whatever. If you want to warn and then ban me anyways for the same offense, they're your policies. Sigmund Fraud Talk Contributions 21:34, June 5, 2017 (UTC)

I'm not the images expert, plus I don't know how to do it properly on a wiki site, but could we find a picture for the Wolf King in Der Eisendrache? I know there are plenty out there and minor character or not, he was pretty influential during the zombies timeline.

Zombies characters pages? Edit

I left an open discussion the Watercooler, but given you're the most recent person to delete the Victis page, I wanted to bring it up with you directly. Certainly, Ultimis, Primis, and Victis are more notable than the Alcatraz Guards, Alcatraz Prisoners, CIA in Zombies, and the CDC, right? So why don't they get a page? DiscussionsEdit

Hey Sam

I’m Nico aka Knakveey from FANDOM's Community Development team and I’ve done some work here in the past (mostly giveaway stuff). Lately I've been playing the WWII beta and noticed that the discussions here have been heavily moderated -- perhaps too much so? I'm just worried that with the potential rise of participants coming with the game's release in early November, you might get overwhelmed with the amount of posts.

From what I've seen from previous interactions with FANDOM staff you're probably sick of us, but figure I wouldn't hurt to try and reach out to you.

I understand that the discussion feature wasn’t exactly welcomed with open arms by this community, but I also see you’re trying to make the best of it, which is great. I think.

However, I'm concerned your approach and moderation style might be too severe. You want people to follow the rules — don’t post certain types of things, and post other things only in certain ways. This can work well when there’s already a “critical mass” of people, but right now it’s driving away the very users you want to have stick around. Remember that from their perspective, their posts are simply disappearing. And you’re also losing some decent conversations with replies, such as this and this (apologies to non-admins reading this who can’t see those). Maybe those are not the most robust contributions, but those people would likely come back and keep talking, except now they see their stuff is gone.

Perhaps you can consider letting the users know what they did wrong, what they should do next time, and then lock the post so no one else will reply. This helps that user learn and also serves an example to others in the future. If the post is just deleted, no one sees it and no one learns.

I also see that you’re trying to consolidate some types of posts into single threads such as this one. That may work well if you reply to other posts with that directive and then lock them (as I suggested). But clearly it’s not working right now since you’re still having to delete a fair number of posts. Another option is to just settle for individual posts in the “Looking for players” category since that is what’s happening already.

I totally get that you’re probably frustrated with having to oversee this and not seeing the improvements you want. If you would like to take a break, I can have some of our Global Discussions Moderators come in and whip things into shape. They can still enforce the rules you’ve set up, but might take some different approaches and find more success. Let me know what you think. Thanks :)

Locking Shadow Company Talk Page Edit

Could you explain to me why you locked the Shadow Company talk page? What was I doing wrong? What warning was ignoring? It's not like I was necroing the talk, as the earliest post before me was back in May. One of your mods even told me to post my rationale on the talk, which is why I did so. Nobody's forcing anybody to believe anything. Really sounds like you're just adverse to discussion.

Edit: It appears you locked the Shadow Company wiki page, as well. Again - why? I think I edited it twice before going to the talk page to explain why I think it should be changed.

Elvis2500 (talk) 22:46, November 7, 2017 (UTC)Elvis2500

I apologize for accusing you, but could tell me what "warning" I was ignoring? You seem to be mistaking my attempt to discuss as an attempt to force an edit.

Deleted Blog? Edit

Excuse me but why did you delete my blog? Nanomat (talk) 23:13, November 7, 2017 (UTC)

Fair enough, is there any way to recover the code of the blog since I've been working on it for hours? Nanomat (talk) 23:19, November 7, 2017 (UTC)
Just want to say that deleting my blog outright was extremely severe action, I see that the blog was against the rules but some kind of warning before deleting it could have been a nice thing. I don't know if I have done something to warrant such an action but if I had been warned I would have complied with the rules. Nanomat (talk) 23:36, November 7, 2017 (UTC)
First time of what? Not reading the rules? Okay, I'm guilty of that but where in the blocking policy says that a user can be blocked because he did not read the rules? All the violations that warrant a block seem to be vandalism, personal attacks, vulgarity, copyright infringement, inappropriate username, sock puppetry and spam. As far as I know I have not committed any of those. Oh, and it looks like the rules state that "Vandals may be warned with the vandalism template. All other warnings may be personally written by an administrator." Nanomat (talk) 23:52, November 7, 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for your patience,

Hi Sam,

Per NoReplyz message here, we're trying a new system of streamlining content from our homepage (news & stories) to the CoD discussions. I would say that the two examples, especially the "Fandom 100" thing you've pointed out are not going to be a common occurrence and we're working on making the aesthetics of the post a bit more appealing.

I'm glad to hear that your collaboration with NoReplyz and Speedit have been going well :)

Hey, just to let you know, I edited the welcome message template to reflect WWII (hell, it's been displaying MW3 for years, and there hasn't been any custom template after that of Advanced Warfare). Well, my main question was if you felt that the new template was fine :P Anyway, I don't think anything was broken there, it's just that the default message that automatically appears on new usertalk pages is from the MediaWiki page that I linked (still not having been changed after the MW3 theme), and not the Welc template that previously displayed AW and that is usually manually placed by users on talk pages.

Edits on Moon Wiki page Edit

I'm not sure if there's a way of directly contacting admins so I'll post this here...

So, I was told to contact an admin regarding some of the changes I was attempting to make on the Moon wiki page. Basically, I and many, many others hate the new direction of zombies, so I thought I'd revise over each page for the zombie maps developed by the og zombies team and remove anything that isn't in the Black Ops version of the map for those who are only interested in the original zombies story, and want avoid any newly released info that essentially defeats the purpose of old school zombies, debunks some of the coolest and craziest theories, lessening the replay value and giving Jimmy Z the middle finger. And as much as I'd hate to do this, for those who are interested in the new info/changes to the original maps, I planned on creating and linking a page dedicated to all of that stuff. So that way the old school community only have to read what they want to read and the new community can absorb all the new story/map changes. Is that ok? MythicSpider (talk) 21:57, July 19, 2018 (UTC)

If you read my comment properly you'd know that it's not JUST because I dislike what the campaign team is doing. Some of us, a large portion of the community would prefer to stick with the original story told in the original Black Ops. I don't understand why that's too much to ask. It's like you (or the other guy) said, you only provide facts correct to the game but none of these "facts" are not correct to the original Black Ops, the game that we first got to experience these maps in. Here's an example of something that has been changed recently: The OFFICIAL Season Pass description for Nuketown Zombies states that the map takes place directly after the detonation in the multiplayer map featured in the original Black Ops. So Nuketown Zombies taking place in the 60s is backed up by the Nuketown multiplayer map, the aesthetics of the zombies map, the characters and their appearance, and just about everything else and yet, the campaign team are telling us Nuketown Zombies is set in 2025? Wut? Making these changes would result in a cleaner, tidier page. It'd be more convenient. And anyone who wants to read up on the classic story or the updated story, can! By the way, I never said I didn't get a response, I just wanted this resolved MythicSpider (talk) 17:56, October 12, 2018 (UTC)

Global Discussions moderators no longer needed? Edit

Since we agreed that global Discussions moderators would take on moderation in Discussions here on the wiki, they have been actively deleting bad posts and encouraging positive engagement.

I'd say it's been going well - bad posts were removed speedily and Noreplyz especially has made some well-received posts (like this one) to add more good content to the mix.

Now the wiki has found its own Discussions moderator in User:ScarletTwig and it looks like help from the global mods is no longer needed. Let me know if you feel otherwise! Perhaps the community would also like to continue news posts and similar conversation starters in Discussions, like the global mods posted every now and then? It could be one measure to get users to become (more) active and come back to the wiki, and any community member can contribute to this. It may still not turn app users into article editors, but more buzz and activity can definitely benefit the community in general! Mira Laime @fandom  (help forum | blog) 00:11, August 4, 2018 (UTC)

Hey there, indeed my activity was lower near the end of the assignment, but there was really little in terms of feedback or complaints coming from anyone, both here and on the Discord server. If Twig needs help with the moderation, we identified two other users who may be potential candidates - JTAwesome92 and IaMbAtTlEfIeLd, who have both been pretty active and may be interested in helping. noreplyz 12:49, August 6, 2018 (UTC)
I'd agree that having one or two more moderators would be beneficial, and these two seem good candidates so far. They might not have wiki editing experience, but for a Discussions moderator, that's not a necessary requirement. What matters is that they check in on Discussions regularly and that they're good judges of what makes a good vs. a bad post, able to stay calm and polite when things get heated, and that they can communicate well. Granted, that is still a pretty tall order, especially for a community that gets few long-term regulars, but perhaps it's worth giving these two a shot?
In an ideal world, you'd not just have someone like Twig who is experienced and around consistently to delete anything that's bad, but also someone (can be the same or different users) who proactively works on community building, posting news, starts discussions, etc - like User:Kid With The Baseball Bat has been doing for a while upon Noreplyz' request. That increases the chance that users will keep coming back, feel part of the community and become moderator material in their turn. And for this second role, someone who edits the wiki might be more suitable, because they're likely in the loop and would know how to spark a discussions among CoD fans. What are your thoughts on calling for volunteers among the community members, just to give this a try? Mira Laime @fandom  (help forum | blog) 17:11, August 6, 2018 (UTC)
The issue being is the users approached have not replied on wiki to the requests. The issue this raises is if I get a complaint about their conduct, I cannot reliably contact them. While I would like to promote more users to take over, none have shown any incentive to be aware of the wiki side of things, and as an admin this makes it very hard to deal with them. We need users that are both active and contactable, if they don't showcase they can be contacted then we simply cannot trust them to have the rights.

"around consistently" I have a life. Twig (Talk) wNJ2zkL.png 19:44, August 6, 2018 (UTC)
Good point. This has been a problem before on wikis where we promoted Discussions users who only used the app and didn't have a wiki connection. We were able to solve it, though - for instance, in one case, I emailed a user we wanted to promote to tell them to log into a browser and check their talk page and to keep an eye on it for communication. They did, and even became a wiki editor afterwards, as well as a mod.
In another case, we posted publicly in Discussions, hoping the relevant user would read it and go to their talk page in a browser. They did, and so we were able to discuss their promotion and the wiki's admins used it to keep in contact with that user after. Once a user has started using their talk page, they can follow it and be notified about new messages, so only the initial contact is tricky. Perhaps either method would work here, too - I'm certainly happy to email someone if a public post doesn't get their attention or if they're initially having trouble using a talk page!
@Twig: If course, I wouldn't assume otherwise :p Mira Laime @fandom  (help forum | blog) 21:37, August 6, 2018 (UTC)
I'm dropping in to confirm that our global Discussions moderators have pulled out of this wiki's Discussions - they've not been needed for a while, now that Twig is keeping an eye on things. Should you feel at any point that things are getting out of hand or could be going better, and you'd like some members of the group to come back and help out, just let us know. Shadow Company Talk Edit

So, you've declared the discussion over. Why? Because you say it is? Do you really think that's the prerogative of a moderator? I don't know how old you are, but that doesn't seem like accetable behavior for an authority figure.  You're supposed to be an objective voice in this community - act like it. Don't back down and not consider opposing viewpoints just because you're impervious to outside thought. At the very least, provide a well-written, conclusive reubttal which shows me why you are 100%, without a shadow of a doubt, right. Respect man, that's all I'm asking for. There is no source for the claim that Shadow Company is a PMC, so why are we claiming that? Before you respond, think about it - why are we passing something we don't know for certain as fact? Bear in mind, I also understand the implications that labeling them a "task force" are also not sourceable. So, with that in mind, (and I beg you to actually answer this and not just gloss over it the questions like your colleague has), what is your objection to changing the PMC label?

I am an editor of the Call Of Duty Wiki, and I have given many edits since I've joined. But I have an issue.

On 16-10-19, I added a section on the page of Contingency (mission) which included a written walkthrough of the whole mission. But the next day, it had been removed. But there is a similar written walkthrough on the page of Just Like Old Times which still exists.

So what is the issue with my Walkthrough?

The deletion of pictures for ignorant reasons...Edit

Joe Blaze (talk) 09:35, February 2, 2020 (UTC) Wow. You've really fucking pissed me off now. Let's speak on discord. Joe Blaze#3338 Add me NOW. I'll show you the glitch I'm experiencing with this site. None of this is my fault! I'm extremely angry over this nonsense. I can show the EXACT issue I am having with image uploads.

Research on Fandom Wikia Edit

Hi, I am conducting research on user activity on fandom wikia. I am trying to get responses from as many people from the fandom community as possible so is there a way to spread this survey as much as possible. The survey is quick and completely confidential and it would be extremely helpful if you could take the time to fill it out through the attached link below.

Thank you so much!

I'm SorryEdit

Hello Crazy sam10!

I am here to apologize for what I did a few months ago on this wiki, like create some stupid pages or add unneeded content. That was because I was absolutely new to Fandom at that time, and didn't know what wiki rules and regulations were. And eventually, I even started ignoring your messages from my talk page. I stopped contributing on this wiki because I was too frustrated by all that.

But now, as time has passed, I realized what I did was wrong, and felt like I need to apologize for all this. I'm really sorry for what I did that time, and as I now understand all this, I'm ashamed of myself (if that is considered vandalism). So I hope this will not make a bad impression about me on this wiki.

Thanks! ThisIsACreeper0101(Signature) Creeper (TCG) 16:58, May 31, 2020 (UTC)

Checkuser requestEdit

Hey Sam, I have a favor to ask. Can you check if ForeverDexus is the same user as BW777? I'm most definitely certain that this is the case, considering that he's been making the same types of edits as him, not to mention that BW777 did previously use two alternate accounts (this and this). But considering ForeverDexus' reply on his talk page, I'd like to make sure whether this is the case or not. Kilo 141 Beta menu icon MW Ultimate94ninja talk · contribs 12:15, August 7, 2020 (UTC)

Damn, the ban was a mistake then. I'll fix that. Thanks! Kilo 141 Beta menu icon MW Ultimate94ninja talk · contribs 19:49, August 9, 2020 (UTC)
