Welcome to the war Edit

Black Ops Logo welcome message

Welcome to the Call of Duty Wiki, X29.

Good to have you aboard at the Call of Duty Wiki, so here's some tips on how you can help:

Read our policies, if you haven't already. You'll be informed on the do's and do not's, as well as some guidelines when creating new articles.
Recent changes is a great second stop, because you can see what other people are editing right this minute, and where you can help.
The Manual of Style is a good place to see. It let's you know how to edit this wiki. It will give you the know-how to edit and make this wiki great.
The Sandbox is a great place to test things out if this is your first time editing wikis. It is advisable to know what is commonplace on the wiki, such as templates and categories, and how to use them.
Questions? You can ask at the Help desk, the "discussion" page associated with each article, or browse through the help directory. Feel free as well to ask on my talk page; we take care of our friends, recruit!
Have feedback? The War Room is used to discuss changes to wiki or other community related issues. You'll need 50 main space edits to vote, X29, but your opinion is still appreciated!

I hope you enjoy editing on the wiki recruit! I am WHISKEY35, briefing's over - now get back to work.

Welcome to the Call of Duty Wiki. Although everyone is welcome to make constructive contributions here, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to "John "Soap" MacTavish", did not appear to be constructive, and has been reverted. Vandalism includes, but is not limited to:

  • Spamming articles
  • Adding inappropriate/rude/offensive comments/pictures to articles
  • Creating spam pages
  • Uploading offensive/rude images
  • Adding incorrect information to articles multiple times
  • Undoing perfectly good edits
  • Renaming pages to incorrect/inappropriate names

Please use the sandbox for any non-mischievous test edits you would like to make, and it is strongly recommended to read the policy page to learn more about contributing constructively to this wiki and knowing what is and what is not allowed. If you continue vandalizing, you will be subject to a block. Remember that all vandalism can be undone within a few seconds. Thank you.

Transcript editsEdit

Please stop adding incorrect information to transcripts. Thank you.  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  18:41, September 9, 2010 (UTC)

I think you might be right with the Ultimatum one, but you aren't right about "European" in The Sins of Our Fathers. I'll check the Ultimatum transcript now.  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  18:49, September 9, 2010 (UTC)
I'm going to keep Ultimatum/Transcript protected until Cod4 finds out which quote is correct, there's no sense going back and forth with revisions. --ukimies {talk | irc | administration} 18:52, September 9, 2010 (UTC)
You are correct. I'm sorry.  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  18:55, September 9, 2010 (UTC)
I'll unprotect the page, you can add your quote. Sorry for any confusion. --ukimies {talk | irc | administration} 18:58, September 9, 2010 (UTC)

I think yours is correct, I can't check that one at the moment, but your version sounds more correct. --Callofduty4 (Talk) 19:08, September 9, 2010 (UTC)

I just went to check; Griggs says "up here" pretty clearly (and it makes more sense versus "European"). Semtex HUD icon MW2 Bovell Talk | Contrib. 20:08, September 9, 2010 (UTC)

Ultimatum Transcript's current version is the CORRECT one (what lines are said and the order spoken, trust me, I've reviewed several clips on YouTube). Callofduty4, Continue to protect that page, please. And Sins of the Father, Griggs has always said "up here". "European" wouldn't make sense about why he said it's a "good thing" for Soap.

(AC-130 inventory icon MW2EvErLoyaLEagLE Talk 21:21, September 9, 2010 (UTC))

The way I edited the transcripts are how I see fit. Some I'll allow because the order of the lines are said depending on the position of the player at the time the lines are said. Like he could be a bit behind and this line is said after a few lines or it's said early when the player moves ahead etc. Just be sure to put a reason or explanation for your further edits and I'll decide whether they're fit for it.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I have neither played that game, nor head of it before, sorry. --Callofduty4 21:19, October 7, 2010 (UTC)

RE: Stupid mistake Edit

Don't worry about it, but why the hell should "men" redirect to Shadow Company? Also, only administrators can delete pages. Anyway, to make a proper redirect just make a blank page with the title you want (or blank the intended page) and put

obviously replacing "PAGENAME" with the name of the page you want to redirect to. Imrlybord7 18:02, October 8, 2010 (UTC)

There is no reason to make a redirect called "Shepherd's Men." Redirects should only be made for things that are likely to be searched (like mw2 or Modern Warfare 2 redirecting to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2). I doubt that anybody would ever search "Shepherd's Men." As for becoming an administrator, a user must submit a Request for Adminship (RfA) or be nominated by another user after which the community votes. Only the most important, respected, and trusted users have a shot at a successful RfA. And to make a blank page you simply hit "Create a new page" on the left-hand menu. Imrlybord7 20:07, October 8, 2010 (UTC)
I explicitly told you not to make that page. It is completely unnecessary. Although administrators cannot actually "give orders" or anything, you should probably treat the advice any experienced user gives you as an order until you understand how the wiki works. Imrlybord7 20:23, October 8, 2010 (UTC)
Erm, no, nobody is going to search that. Please don't argue with me. Imrlybord7 20:34, October 8, 2010 (UTC)
The Shepherd article links to the Shadow Company article plenty of times and vice versa. It is totally unnecessary. Conversation over. Imrlybord7 20:49, October 8, 2010 (UTC)

Bad Edit Edit

An edit you recently made to a page, "John Price/Quotes", was undone because it was either:
Call of Duty Wiki logo warning template

  • Incorrect
  • Contained poor English
  • Did not conform to Wiki policies
  • Unnecessary
  • Concerned real life info, which is not generally allowed
  • Contained speculation, which is not generally allowed
  • Opinionated
  • Featured a formatting error

Please read the Manual of Style and the policies in order to brush up on the style and professionalism that is expected on this wiki.
You are still free to make edits; however, please make sure they are up to standards!

Please. Edit

Stop it. You are just screwing up the formatting for this page. If you continue to do this i'll report you to an admin. --Personal Toilet Bowl Soldier sigSoldier 02:57, October 10, 2010 (UTC)

Bizarre Logic Edit

Please do not redo your edit from Gary "Roach" Sanderson/Trivia. I spent a significant amount of time removing all of those URL links and replacing them with internal Wiki links, which make editing far easier and does the exact same thing. Also, I removed the points about "Soap liking Roach" because they were ridiculously redundant points - Soap smiled at Roach, he acknowledged his death, and waited for Roach to complete jobs that he is obliged to do are not noteworthy and certainly not indicators of an intimate friendship. Do not re-add the information, please. Toon Ganondorf (t c) 19:41, October 19, 2010 (UTC)

Again, I have removed your edits because they are not only poorly formatted, they are not interesting or even notable.

1. Soap smiling at Roach is not necessarily an indicator that you have a close friendship with them - just today, I smiled to five complete strangers.
2. Soap waits for Roach's mark - he would have done the exact same thing if it was Peasant or Ghost, because it was important for the mission.
3. Soap roars out "Roach!" when the player is killed in the Gulag - he does the same thing for every NPC killed "Man Down!", and more, he doesn't do that in any other level.
4. Soap asks for Roach's status at the beginning of Cliffhanger - he would have asked about any member of TF141 that went missing.
5. Soap calls out Roach's name before Ghost's in The Enemy of My Enemy? So what? He says Ghost's name twice and demands that he speak to him, does that mean they are both best friends? No, of course not.
6. Soap trusts Roach with Plan B? What was the alternative? Get shot?

Its extremely obvious that Roach and Soap are friends, but it does not belong in a Trivia section, and those six points are not even reliable evidence for the point. Stop inserting the information in. Toon Ganondorf (t c) 05:01, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

Your counter arguments are groundless and weak. Smiling to strangers is polite, if Ghost had to do everything just because he was ranked higher, every playable character in the game would be a Field Marshall, your argument for 3 is ridiculous - saying his name instead of just "man down" automatically makes them friends? - your arguments for 4 are silly, because most playable characters don't talk, obviously there is only one way around that, your points on five are ridiculous, I don't think anyone whose teammates have been murdered carefully ranks them in order of calling out their names, and what? Ghost wasn't even in Cliffhanger. Stop inserting those points because they are irrelevant and uninteresting. Toon Ganondorf (t c) 12:13, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

Re:Carnival (unit) Edit

I've put it up for a vote to be deleted. I haven't heard of it, either. Sorry for the late reply. --Callofduty4 13:43, October 30, 2010 (UTC)

Re:Page Edit

Your page looks fine to me, just make sure you don't have any extra ''' lying around. --Callofduty4 21:41, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

I have other commitments, like other wikis, other internet projects, and school work. --Callofduty4 00:28, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
Don't forget playing Black Ops as well ;) --Callofduty4 00:28, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

The question was fine, don't worry. Also, I'm not sure why it's downloading slow. Slow connection? Large file? --Callofduty4 17:59, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

By "lying around" I mean any ''' that aren't meant to be there. Also, they do exist in single player, they are in the mission The Only Easy Day... Was Yesterday. --Callofduty4 18:34, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
You can trust me, also there must be some pictures on the page. --Callofduty4 18:50, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
They are in the game... what's so hard to understand about that? Play The Only Easy Day... Was Yesterday and you'll see. --Callofduty4 12:45, November 21, 2010 (UTC)
CoD4 is right. They are spotted towards the end as Soap and Ghost escape from the Rig. Stealth Cl0wn 13:20, November 21, 2010 (UTC)

U.S. Nazy SEALs Edit

The SEALs are in the game, most definitely. They're a multiplayer faction, and are in the level The Only Easy Day... Was Yesterday. This can be seen in the transcript of the level. Sactage Give me a ping, Vasily. IRC Policies War Room 15:47, November 21, 2010 (UTC)

Re:Things Edit

Both of your theories are incorrect. Also, I don't particularly find the way you decided to write your message very easy to understand. --Callofduty4 18:12, February 1, 2011 (UTC)

Both, and your hillbilly English is getting high on my nerves. --Callofduty4 18:40, February 1, 2011 (UTC)

It's unnecessary and/or uninteresting. --Callofduty4 18:53, February 16, 2011 (UTC)

Okay? Edit

Wow sorry, didn't mean to offend you? I've never seen you before so I didn't know you were that against having a user page. I'll redirect your user page to your talk page then, if you ever do decide you want it back simply go into "What links here" in the tools bar, follow back to the redirect and do what you want to it. Also, could you add a link to your signature please? Thanks, Smuff[citation provided] 21:47, February 16, 2011 (UTC)

On your signature there's no link to your talk page. All signatures should at least have one link to the user's page. Smuff[citation provided] 18:41, February 17, 2011 (UTC)
It's the four tildes (~~~~) you add at the end of all your posts. Smuff[citation provided] 19:09, February 17, 2011 (UTC)
Yep that should do you fine! Smuff[citation provided] 19:49, February 17, 2011 (UTC)

If you'll forgive the ad hominem, this is a tad rich coming from the person who said of evidence that proved him to be incorrect, and I quote: "Not my problem." In short, all you have proved is that when IW made that one little graphic, he was scripted to be an SSgt. Not that he is one in the finished game. 9G3sis0.pngRaven's wing Talk09:34, July 10, 2012 (UTC)

Frost is referred to as a Sergeant more than he's referred to as a Staff Sergeant. He's only referred to as a Staff Sergeant once. That means we have to assume that he's a Sergeant and that the Staff Sergeant thing was a mistake on IW's part. It's not like IW are incapable of making mistakes here and there. You added random letters to the article, as seen here. 08:02, October 17, 2012 (UTC)
Then that's your fault for not checking your edits. I don't need to discuss this with other admins unless you want to make this a bigger issue. 08:14, October 17, 2012 (UTC)
I'm not in control of where you type or you checking your edits. Nor do I have control over where the page will try to enter your text. 08:30, October 17, 2012 (UTC)
Admins do not have any control over wheter or not you bother to check your edit. Only you are in control of that, also admins have no control over where the cursor will start. If anything Wikia Staff are the ones that have coded that in. But in the end it was your fault for adding in that gibberish for not checking what you wrote (because I'm certain I didn't control you into adding it into the page). If you want to continue arguing your error is someone else fault you will likely be banned as you have a history of arguing with sysops, also I chose to speak with another admin who very much disliked your behaviour thus far. 08:39, October 17, 2012 (UTC)
This has nothing to do with hating you, it's because you're trying to pass blame onto other users, this could've ended with a quick "I'm sorry, I didn't check my edit, let's move on." instead you wanted to throw blame around. Please note as well saying things like "everyone here hates me, just like in real life." will not sway anyone per COD:NST. 08:54, October 17, 2012 (UTC)

Block Edit

Due to your unacceptable behavior, you have been blocked for 3 days for COD:DBAD. You are welcome to come back and edit sensibly after the block is up, however it is very strongly advised that you read and review our policies thoroughly before you start to edit again. If you believe your block is unfair you can leave a message on this page and an administrator will consider it.

Any more unacceptable behavior and another block will be issued. Thank you.
