"Variable Magnification Reflex sight. Press RS/R3 when ADS to switch between normal and 4x zoom."
— In-game description.

The VMR (Variable Magnification Reflex) Sight is a weapon attachment that appears in Call of Duty: Ghosts. It can be mounted on Assault Rifles, SMGs (except for the Ripper, and LMGs. It is a two-in-one optical attachment that players can switch between a Red Dot sight and a 2.9x Magnification Sight. The 2.9x Magnification Sight is flipped over or away from the Red Dot Sight to accomplish this. The Red Dot Sight component of the VMR Sight has a slightly higher zoom level than the iron sights on SMGs and LMGs. The VMR Sight can be adjusted when aiming down the sight, but not when the user is not aiming down sight.

On Assault Rifles, the VMR Sight's short range optic reduces the aim down sight speed to 350 milliseconds. The long range optic takes even longer to aim, at 380 milliseconds. For assault rifles, the VMR Sight will severely compromise aim speed, so it can make the VMR Sight undesirable for those who want their Assault Rifle to aim quickly.

For SMGs, the VMR Sight takes 250 milliseconds to aim down the sight regardless of which sight is being aimed. Because the aim down sight time is slowed down considerably and the fact that many SMGs are poor at medium to long ranges, several SMGs can't really put the long range optical attachments to use, and thus the VMR Sight is commonly ignored on the SMGs, with the longer-ranged SMGs like the Vector CRB and MTAR-X being the only SMGs that can really make use of the VMR Sight due to their longer ranges.

For LMGs, their aim down sight time is 350 milliseconds to begin with, and the increased versatility the VMR Sight provides makes engagements at close, medium, and long ranges more comfortable to deal with. The only negative the VMR Sight gives for the LMG is that the long range optic is a bit slower to aim at 380 milliseconds, but this isn't a large difference.
