Maxim Antonov on Wall Buys

The Wall Buy system is a feature that has utilised within the Zombies series of game modes as a method of purchasing a selection of weaponry and their respective ammunition using the currency that the game uses. Introduced with Nacht der Untoten in Call of Duty: World at War, the Wall Buy system has made an appearance in some fashion in nearly every single map, excluding unique ones such as the Dead Ops Arcade series of maps.

Buried features a unique twist on the system by the addition of a Chalk pick-up, allowing for Victis to place a selection of weaponry outlines in a more customized locations.

Within Call of Duty: WWII however, the system is replaced with two near identical ones known as the Weapon Lockers and the Waffenbox which is exclusive to The Tortured Path mode. While acting in the same manner as the Wall Buy, the Weapon Lockers and Waffenboxes are designed more to fit the themes of Sledgehammer's Nazi Zombies.

The release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War brought a reworked system for weaponry, primarily that of the "Weapon Rarity"[1] system in which weaponry can be upgraded in rarity to gain more damage. This system was also applied to the Wall Buys, with the visual outline now denoting what rarity the weapon is.

Alongside the addition of Mauer der Toten with Season Four: Reloaded in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Wall Buys gained a system known as "Dynamic Wall Buys"[2], which in any round-based maps will have their Wall Buys have a chance to upgrade in rarity after every 5th round.

Wall Buys return in Call of Duty: Vanguard as part of Season Four update with the release of Shi No Numa on June 22nd, 2022. Alongside the return of Wall Buys, starting at round 6, Wall Buys have a chance to increase in Pack-a-Punch level every round all the way up to level 3.[3]

Wall Buys return in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 functioning like in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The version in Black Ops 6 also allows for purchase of Armor when appearing on a wall.
