William Calderon, also known as Case, is the main protagonist and main playable character of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. He is a member of Frank Woods' Rogue Black Ops team.

Biography[]

Not much is known about Case's early life or his career prior to the trials of the Cradle.

Development of "The Cradle"[]

William Calderon apparently volunteered as the first and only trial for "the Cradle", a substance with hallucinogenic and behavior-altering properties, for the apparent purpose of developing a super-soldier, as "Test Subject Case One". However, he became violent and mentally unstable, and allegedly sabotaged the Advanced Technologies and Applications facility he was placed in. Subsequently, the trials were cancelled, and the Cradle was repurposed as a bioweapon, one designed to induce its victims to violently attack others in bouts of uncontrollable fear. Case was later "rehabilitated", though one of his symptoms, a female voice in his head, continued to persist in a limited capacity, occasionally flaring up at the mention of topics related to the Cradle. This voice in his head also prevented him from speaking of the project surrounding the Cradle.

Following his rehabilitation, Case was assigned to work in the CIA once more. He often partnered with Troy Marshall, and both took orders from Operations Specialist Jane Harrow.

Attempted Extraction of Alawi[]

In January 1991, Case joined Harrow and Marshall for their assignment to extract Saeed Alawi in Iraq - but this would fail thanks to the efforts of Russell Adler, who was seeking to keep him out of the Pantheon's hands. This resulted in Case, Marshall, and Frank Woods to be suspended from duty by CIA Deputy Director Daniel Livingstone.

Going Rogue[]

Case would later join Marshall and Woods at "The Rook", the codename given to an abandoned KGB safehouse in Bulgaria, and in an effort to build up their team, would head to Avalon to meet with a possible ally: Sevati "Sev" Dumas, a freelance assassin seeking to dismantle the crime family that originally took her in. With her help, he managed to confirm connections between the crime factions of Avalon and the Pantheon, and after killing several Guild higher-ups, managed to extract with Sev in tow.

Rescuing Adler[]

Several days later, with intelligence from Felix Neumann, Case, Marshall, and Sev would manage to infiltrate a rally for Bill Clinton at Capitol Station - with the goal of accessing the CIA black site underneath, where Adler was held. After securing access to the black site however, they arrived to find the facility in disarray, with the Pantheon having managed to hit the area before they did, though they managed to push through to retrieve Adler. Despite the Pantheon's attempts to terminate them, they were able to escape.

Assisting the SAS[]

With further intelligence on the Pantheon leading the team to one of Saddam Hussein's castles in Iraq, Adler used his connections with MI6 to secure a brief partnership with SAS squads operating in the region who were intent on bombing the target palace. After assisting the SAS in destroying several Scud launchers, the SAS squad assisting the team in clearing out the palace. There, the team would discover the Cradle in the vault of the palace but were forced to fight off the Pantheon reinforcements before securing extraction.

Investigating the Cradle[]

After the team determined the origins of the Cradle as the Advanced Technology and Applications facility in Kentucky, Sev, Marshall, and Case would all head there to investigate the biotechnology department. However, when Case fell into an elevator shaft and his gas mask was rendered unusable, he was exposed to the remaining Cradle still in the air, triggering the side effects from his experimentation, with the most significant side effect - the female voice in his mind, guiding him through the facility.

Under the effects of Cradle, he retrieved the four keycards required to re-open biotechnology department from what he saw was swarms of zombies and monsters. When he arrived in biotechnology however, he attacked Sev and Marshall, who managed to restrain him long enough for the substance to wear off. They noted the fact that a batch of the Cradle had been taken out of the facility from the summer of the prior year and left without further incident.

Infiltrating the Casino Luttazzi[]

As part of a "heist", Case would surrender himself to the Luttazzi Security so that he would be positioned close to the Casino's archive room, where the Pantheon's data on the Cradle was stored. After Marshall, Sev, and Felix managed to initiate a "heist" on the casino's vault, diverting security, Case was able to get to the archive room, where he would collect the Pantheon's files from a safe deposit box related to them. He and the rest of the team would extract, though there was some resistance from the casino security and Pantheon themselves.

Capturing Matvey Gusev[]

Adler would call up Lawrence Sims, now a part of CENTCOM after leaving the CIA, to get him and Case into Kuwait, where Gusev would be attempting to leave Iraq. Despite several setbacks, including infiltrating the incorrect plane, the team was able to get ahold of Gusev and interrogate him. After Gusev gave up the information, Adler encouraged Case to dispose of him, but Sims stopped Case before he could shove Gusev into one of the plane's engines, taking him into CENTCOM custody.

Attack on Vorkuta[]

After Sev infiltrated the Pantheon facility in Vorkuta and sabotaged their defenses, Case and the rest of the team were able to touch down after learning that Jane Harrow was on site, moving the Cradle. Although they were unable to retrieve the Cradle, they were able to apprehend Harrow.

Siege on the Rook and Disappearance[]

After bringing Harrow back for interrogation, Felix detected Pantheon forces moving on the Rook from all sides, forcing Case and the rest of the team to buy Woods additional time to continue interrogating Harrow, setting up a final stand at the Rook.

However, the Pantheon eventually managed to breach the interrogation room and retrieved Harrow. When the team arrived back inside the Rook, half of them were incapacitated - with Sev and Adler, respectively, tending to Felix and Woods while Marshall, also injured, orders Case to stop Harrow from escaping.

Case was forced to give chase by himself, eventually managing to get onto Harrow's escape helicopter, and in the resulting scuffle, sent it plummeting into the Black Sea. However, as Harrow attempted to escape her predicament by killing Case, he was apparently encouraged by the voice in his mind to use the Cradle sample on board, and under its effects (and further encouragement from the voice in his mind) beat and strangled Harrow, who had also began to feel the effects of Cradle, as the helicopter sunk into the waters below.

Along with Harrow, Case was ultimately presumed to be K.I.A. - with Marshall attempting to contact him after the siege concluded, to no response.

Legacy[]

By 2035, Gideon Falkner had managed to recover a sample of Case's remains, which helped him recreate the Cradle to further Emma Kagan's plan. The sample was kept in a vial which Falkner kept at his penthouse suite.

Trivia[]

  • In cutscenes, Case's face is often obscured by the camera angle, with only parts of his body being seen. The only time Case can be fully seen is when he drives the jeep in Hunting Season, during which players can observe his character model while driving (albeit his face is still covered by a mask).
    • He can also be seen only partially obscured in the background of Ground Control before interrogating Gusev.
