The Wunderwaffe DG-2 (pronounced: Vunder Vaffe; German for: "Wonder Weapon DG-2") is a Wonder Weapon featured in Treyarch's Zombies mode, first introduced in Shi No Numa in Call of Duty: World at War.

The weapon also appears in Der Riese and Call of the Dead, in Call of Duty: Black Ops after completing the main quest and killing George Romero. The weapon returns in both Der Riese and Shi No Numa from the Rezurrection map pack for Black Ops. In Call of Duty: Black Ops III, the Wunderwaffe DG-2 is available in The Giant, a reimagining of Der Riese as well as in Verrückt and Shi No Numa in the Zombies Chronicles map pack.

It is also available in Call of Duty Online's Cyborg Rising mode.

The Wunderwaffe DG-2 was planned to return in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, however it was cut.

The Wunderwaffe DG-2 returns within the Dark Aether Saga in Call of Duty: Vanguard, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, and Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0.

Call of Duty: World at War[]

The Wunderwaffe DG-2 was Doctor Edward Richtofen's breakthrough in weapon development during the final stages of war in World War II. It was built at Der Riese factory, along with the teleporters, and was intended to be mass produced and supplied to front line troops to win the war. Powered by Element 115, the weapon is packed with 200,000 amperes of devastating chained electrical current, in-game, it is incredibly powerful, sending a bolt of lightning at the targeted enemy, killing it instantly. The bolt then proceeds to hit up to nine nearby enemies with no diminished power for a maximum killing potential of 10 enemies. However, in order for the DG-2 to effectively work, the zombies should be nearby each other, as if the zombies are more than five yards away from each other, the bolt might not link to other zombies. The Wunderwaffe DG-2 has three cartridges on the side for ammunition, and 15 reserved, totaling 18. This gives it a maximum killing potential of 180 enemies. These unique attributes make it an ideal room-clearing weapon.

However only in World At War the Wunderwaffe could kill a total of 24 Zombies (a full wave) when Pack a Punched Equiling to 864 possible kills with the weapon.

The electricity generated is contained in three tesla power-tubes that resemble light bulbs, which the player reloads into the Wunderwaffe DG-2. These tubes increase the voltage of the gun so that it does infinite damage. Whenever the player reloads it, they have to eject the vacuum tubes and insert new ones before pulling on a lever, lighting up the power cells and putting the Wunderwaffe DG-2 back into a firing mode. The Wunderwaffe takes about six seconds to fully reload without Speed Cola, but the player can reload cancel after just three seconds to fully recharge it. This is very handy considering its small magazine size.

It can kill 10 zombies at a time. It also appears to not only instantly kill Hellhounds, but also extinguishes them if they are on fire, meaning that they do not explode after being killed. Because of its recoil, it is important to aim shots carefully, as even a single missed shot is a serious waste of enormous potential.

The Wunderwaffe DG-2 can damage the user if it's fired at a zombie or object too close to the player. In the World at War version of Der Riese, it can stun the player temporarily, and due to a bug, permanently reduce their max health. The bug is most noticeable when the player has the Juggernog perk. However, in Black Ops, it merely damages the player with small amounts of splash damage akin to getting hit by a zombie. PHD Flopper protects the player from being harmed by the shot on Call of the Dead.

Call of Duty: Zombies[]

The Wunderwaffe also appears in the Call of Duty: Zombies app for the iOS with a few differences from the consoles version. In Shi No Numa, digging up Peter McCain's grave after opening all the doors rewards the player with it. The user cannot damage themself from firing the Wunderwaffe DG-2, and it also holds much more ammo in reserve than on the consoles. Since there is a Wunderwaffe DG-2 in the Mystery Box and another in the grave, it is possible for two different players to simultaneously have the DG-2. Electrocuting eight zombies with one shot gives the player the "Face Melter" achievement. The Wunderwaffe DG-2 is also semi-automatic on the iOS version, which does not make much of a difference, as most players tend to treat it as a semi-automatic on the consoles anyway.

Call of Duty: Black Ops[]

The Wunderwaffe DG-2 appears in Shi No Numa and Der Riese as part of the Hardened and Prestige editions, as well as in the Rezurrection versions of the maps. In Kino der Toten and Ascension the weapon is replaced by the Thundergun, and in "Five" it is replaced by the Winter's Howl.

When Pack-a-Punched in Der Riese, the appearance is gold plated, whereas in Call of Duty: World at War, it would obtain a pattern similar to any other upgraded gun. In Shi No Numa, a radio can be found, where Richtofen explains why the Wunderwaffe DG-2 did not appear in Kino der Toten, "Five" or Ascension. This radio can only be found in the Call of Duty: Black Ops version of the map.

There were several quotes that were cut from Kino der Toten, which implies that the Wunderwaffe DG-2 was originally going to appear in the map, but was cut before the game was released and replaced by the Thundergun. These quotes would eventually be used in the Zombies Chronicles version of Verruckt. There are also cut quotes for "Five" that hint that the Wunderwaffe DG-2 was going to be included.

The Wunderwaffe DG-2 also makes an appearance in Call of the Dead, after completing Original Characters Trapped Easter Egg, where the "original" Ultimis characters, Tank Dempsey, Nikolai Belinski, Takeo Masaki and Edward Richtofen, are trapped in a room and need help from the celebrities to escape. After completing the Easter Egg, a Death Machine power-up will drop, which is the Wunderwaffe DG-2 in power-up form. This Wunderwaffe DG-2 cannot be Pack-a-Punched and will disappear after it runs out of ammo (although the Max Ammo power-up refills it). After the player has completed this Easter Egg and kills George Romero, they will always obtain the Wunderwaffe DG-2 instead of the Death Machine. The player has to be very careful when using the Wunderwaffe DG-2 in Call of the Dead, as George will be hit by its chain effect if he is within range and will go berserk. Despite dealing infinite damage to regular zombies, it only deals 100 damage to George, making it very ineffective against him as he has hundreds of thousands of health.

Call of Duty Online[]

The Wunderwaffe DG-2 makes an appearance in the Cyborg Rising mode of Call of Duty Online.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III[]

The Wunderwaffe DG-2 returns in The Giant, and the remastered versions of Verrückt (replacing the Winter's Howl from the Black Ops version) and Shi No Numa in the Zombies Chronicles DLC.

Like most returning weapons, the Wunderwaffe DG-2 has undergone a major graphical and gameplay updates. The bulbs are now completely opaque (similar to black-light bulbs), giving off now a neon yellow-orange (purple-pink when Pack a Punched) glow instead of the transparent white light glow in World at War and Black Ops. Its tesla barrel is now composed of copper and silver components, and the central bulb on top of the gun is no longer animated, rather it simply glows with a white light. Along with the general appearance changes, the reload animation has been slightly altered, and is slighty slower compared to its previous incarnations, though the weapon still retains a large reload cancel time like its previous iterations The Wunderwaffe DG-2 continues to have the capability to kill up to 10 zombies with one shot, and still retains infinite damage.

However, there are two major gameplay differences with the Black Ops III version. First off, the DG-2 will no longer deal electrical splash damage to the user (only dealing a negligible amount of regular splash damage), eliminating the risk of self-inflicted damage from firing up close by mistake or trying to escape from being cornered by zombies. Secondly, shots will deal now extra splash damage to nearby zombies. Any Zombies near the 10 Zombies being attacked by the shot will be momentarily stunned and potentially turned into crawlers.

The subject matter of this article was cut from the final version of a Call of Duty game. Since some information cannot be independently verified, the content on this page may be subject to change.

The Wunderwaffe DG-2 orginally meant to appear on Tag der Toten, can still be loaded under the internal name ww_tesla_gun_t8 along with its upgraded counterpart ww_tesla_gun_t8_upgraded. The weapon itself has an updated model and slight modifications from its Call of Duty: Black Ops III counterpart.

Call of Duty: Vanguard[]

"Oberfuhrer Von List: ensure your men construct the prototype exactly as specified. My design is based upon work by my former assistant Oskar Strauss who left little margin for error. Best of luck on your important work."
Ulrich Vogel

The Wunderwaffe DG-2 returns in the Shi No Numa remake within the Dark Aether Saga. It also returns in The Archon. When upgraded, it becomes the Wunderwaffe DG-3.

The weapon was developed by Ulrich Vogel, based on calculations from Oskar Strauss, for Wolfram Von List's Die Wahrheit unit.

The Wunderwaffe DG-2 can either be built or obtained from the Mystery Box after Round 10.

How to Build[]

In the Storage Hut, there is a workbench with the blueprint for the Wunderwaffe DG-2. A Weapon Barrel and 3 Vacuum Tubes are required to build the weapon. Each part acquired will appear on the workbench. One of the Vacuum Tube can be seen on the workbench already but requires to be charged.

The Weapon Barrel can be found on a shelf in the Fishing Hut and needs to be inserted into a green generator outside of the Comm Room. The next round, a lightning will strike the generator and the player will need to defend it from enemies including Boom Schreiers and Sturmkriegers. Once the enemies stop spawning, the Weapon Barrel can be retrieved and a Charged Vacuum Tube can be collected from a radio inside the Comm Room.

To charge the Vacuum Tube in the Storage Hut, the Electro-Shock Defense trap needs to be activated until it breaks. An Electrical Fuse is needed to repair the trap. The fuse can be found on a desk in the Comm Room. Once the fuse is inserted into the trap box, the trap needs to be activated again to kill enemies in order to charge the Vacuum Tube. A quote will play once the tube is charged.

In the Excavation Room in the Starting Building, a Tesla coil can be found against the wall. The coil is linked to a generator where a Vacuum Tube is visible. The Tesla coil needs to be powered up to charge the tube. Zaballa's attacks are required to charge the coil by staying next to it when she attacks. Zaballa starts appearing on the map at Round 15. Once the Tesla coil is powered up, the Charged Vacuum Tube can be retrieved.

Once all the parts are acquired, the Wunderwaffe DG-2 can be built at the workbench in the Storage Hut.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III[]

The Wunderwaffe DG-2 returns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Zombies, appearing with the Wonder Weapon exclusive Ultra Rarity. It is available from the Mystery Box for 950 Essence. A Wunderwaffe DG-2 can also be built within the schematics menu.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0[]

During the release of Season Two of Modern Warfare III with the Horde Hunt event, the Wunderwaffe DG-2, alongside other Zombie related items were added to Fortune's Keep. The Wunderwaffe DG-2 can be found via opening Supply Caches, completing the Eradication Contract and completing the Rouge Signal Public Event.

Wunderwaffe DG-3 JZ[]

In Call of Duty: World at War, if the Wunderwaffe DG-2 is put into the Pack-a-Punch Machine, the DG-2 will be renamed to Wunderwaffe DG-3 JZ, receive a black and sliver camo, bulbs that now emit a pinkish red glow instead of white light, and will now fire red electricity that turns blue after striking the first zombie. It will also receive an ammo boost; 30 charges and a magazine size of six. However, the splash damage is increased greatly, enough to down the user in two hits, even with Juggernog. If the player does not have Juggernog, and is hit with the splash damage, they will be downed instantly should a zombie or Hellhound attack them. Also, if the user recovers from the splash damage from the Wunderwaffe DG-3 JZ, they will not only lose the effects of Juggernog, but they will be a one hit down. The only way to get back Juggernog's effects is for the player to down themself and be revived so they can buy it again.

In Call of Duty: Black Ops, the appearance of the Wunderwaffe DG-3 JZ is greatly changed, as it will not feature the World at War red and silver circuitry PaP camo, where instead it gains a golden camouflage. Although the splash damage still deals slight damage to the user if they fire it too close to a zombie or object, it no longer affects the user's Juggernog, allowing the user to shock themselves and retain Juggernog's effects.

In Call of Duty: Black Ops III, the Wunderwaffe DG-3 JZ will receive the The Giant Pack-a-Punch camo, called Etching Camouflage. Unlike the WAW and BO versions, the camo will now only cover parts of the DG-3 instead of the full weapon, leaving some of the metal, like on the barrel and charge cage, untouched. The bulbs will now feature a bright neon black and purple colour scheme instead of the old WAW and BO1 red and pink colour schemes. Like its previous iterations, the DG-3 retains the same upgrades as before, which include a larger magazine size and reserve ammo count, and a slightly faster reload animation.

In Call of Duty: Vanguard, the Pack-a-Punched Wunderwaffe is now known as the Wunderwaffe DG-3 dropping the "JZ". It features an animated blue-ish camo, changing slightly at each Tier of upgrade.

Trivia[]

  • The Wunderwaffe DG-2 and Wunderwaffe DG-3 JZ are the second and third weapons in the DG series, following with the Ragnarok DG-4 and Ragnarok DG-5 while the Wunderwaffe DG-Scharfschütze is seemingly the first weapon in the series.
  • DG supposedly stands for the Die Glocke, where as JZ from the Wunderwaffe DG-3 JZ stands for Jimmy Zielinski.
  • According to the Zombies Chronicles timeline, the Pentagon were working on their own version of the Wunderwaffe DG-2.
  • On the iOS version of Shi No Numa, if the player gets a Wunderwaffe DG-2 from the Mystery Box and then digs Peter McCain's grave, the Wunderwaffe's ammo will be replenished.
  • One of the most popular nicknames for the Wunderwaffe DG-2 is the "Wonder Waffle" given by Tank Dempsey.
  • Zombies killed by the Wunderwaffe DG-2 will not drop power-ups, except in Shi No Numa.[1]
  • The Wunderwaffe DG-2 will produce a distorted electricity sound after killing more than five zombies with one bolt.
  • If third-person mode is activated, it is impossible to aim correctly with the Wunderwaffe DG-2. The bolts will fire out through the side of the player and simply go through zombies.
  • Despite not being able to Pack-a-Punch the Wunderwaffe DG-2 in Call of the Dead, the Wunderwaffe DG-3 JZ is scripted that map and can be obtained via console commands, although the gun is white due to it lacking a texture.
    • A Wunderwaffe DG-2 obtained through console commands in Call of the Dead cannot be Pack-a-Punched.
  • In the Ascension poster, Dempsey is seen holding the Wunderwaffe. Normally, however, it cannot be obtained in Ascension outside of console commands.
  • According to a cut quote by Robert McNamara, the Wunderwaffe DG-2 shoots at 130,000 mph and 54,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • In the World at War version of Shi No Numa, the Wunderwaffe appears to have a speed reloader holding the bulbs together while reloading. This device flies off the bulbs when the handle is pulled back. This speed reloader is also present in the iOS/Android version of Call of the Dead in Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies, as well as in The Giant.[2]
  • In Shadows of Evil, the Wunderwaffe is coded into the map's memory, as it shares data with The Giant. Using console commands on PC, the player can equip, use and even pack-a-punch the Wunderwaffe with no issues.[3]
