Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2: Force Recon[]
The SCAR-L (or SCAR-Light) is the player's default weapon during most part of the campaign, and it cannot be traded out, except on some missions where it's replaced by a sniper rifle. Because of the Arcade nature of the game, the weapon is fairly weak, often taking almost one magazine to take out one enemy, but this is balanced by making the "reload" faster.

The SCAR-L is used by Simon "Ghost" Riley with an M68 sight and a foregrip.

Campaign[]
The SCAR-L makes a campaign appearance in the mission "Bag and Drag" with an ACOG Scope, along with an USP .45 and rarely used by Delta Force and U.S. Army Rangers in the mission "Goalpost". It can also be seen inside Makarov's fortress where it can be picked up from the Ultanationalist and Inner Circle enemies.
Multiplayer[]
The SCAR-L is unlocked at level 6.
At any range short of thirty meters, the SCAR-L will deal 35 damage per bullet, needing three shots to kill. Damage decreases linearly until 45 meters. At any range past 45 meters, the SCAR-L will deal twenty damage per bullet, needing five shots to kill. The SCAR-L has a three shot kill range of 31 meters, and a four shot kill range of forty meters. In Hardcore, the SCAR-L has a one shot kill range of 35 meters. The SCAR-L deals 50% extra damage on a headshot. This can reduce the number of shots needed to kill by one at most ranges, although both the maximum and minimum damage values require multiple headshots to do this. A headshot in Hardcore is a guaranteed one shot kill. The SCAR-L has medium penetration power.
The SCAR-L fires fully automatically, with a fire rate of 759 RPM.
The SCAR-L has recoil values of 25 to the left, 50 to the right, 40 upwards, and 5 downwards. The SCAR-L has a centerspeed value of 1100. The SCAR-L's recoil values are 60% smaller on the first shot in a burst.
The SCAR-L allows users to move at up to 90% of the base movement speed, or strafe at 36% of the base movement speed. The SCAR-L allows users to aim down the sights in 300 milliseconds, and the hip-fire spread is average. The SCAR-L's reload animation is 2.4 seconds long, or 2.68 seconds long on an empty magazine. In either case, the user can Reload Cancel the SCAR-L after 1.1 seconds.
The SCAR-L has a magazine capacity of thirty rounds, and a starting ammo loadout of ninety rounds.
The SCAR-L has the standard assortment of assault rifle attachments and weapon proficiencies available to it. All attachments and proficiencies work as expected on the SCAR-L.
Special Ops[]
The SCAR-L is available for both Survival and Mission modes.
Mission Mode[]
The SCAR-L is used by the player providing overwatch in the Mission Mode challenge Invisible Threat, and a starting weapon in the missions Little Bros, Server Crash, and Light 'Em Up (with Extended Mags in the latter). It is also found in mission Vertigo and is an alternate weapon in Fatal Extraction. It is also used by the Inner Circle in Light 'Em Up.
Survival Mode[]
The SCAR-L is available in Survival Mode at level 5 and costs $3000.
The SCAR-L is a popular choice for early and later stages of gameplay, due to its moderate damage, clear iron sights, and low recoil. Stopping power and ammunition may be a problem in later waves, though, especially because it is not carried by any enemy type, which prevents the scavenging of free ammunition from fallen foes.
When used in conjunction with the Sleight of Hand perk, which is unlocked at level 50, reloading becomes almost instantaneous. This makes the weapon particularly useful in later waves when the player can be easily swarmed by dogs, heavy commandos, etc.

- One of the soldiers in the background of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer menu screen is holding a SCAR-L with a Holographic Sight, but it isn't seen anywhere else in the game.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3[]
- The Create-A-Class picture of the SCAR-L lacks the front sight and has the rear sight folded.
- The icon for the Standard and Face Off Playlists shows a SCAR-L with an ACOG Scope and a Silencer.
- The headshot multiplier is slightly higher at 1.5x than the usual 1.4x.
- The SCAR-L's iron sights have the numbers 2-6 underneath them.
- The SCAR-L in the Call of Duty ELITE description is claimed to be 'one of the highest damage' among the assault rifles, but in fact it has the second lowest, only in front of the FAD, as evidenced by the Modern Warfare 3 strategy guide.
